SANTA CRUZ—A man and a woman were arrested Friday for a host of charges, from possession of a stolen firearm and probation violation to child endangerment.

George Rivera, commander of the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team’s Gang Task Force, with the assistance of Santa Cruz Police Detectives and the Neighborhood Policing Team, served a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Kaye St. in the Beach Flats neighborhood.

They arrested Anthony Reyes Godinez, 23, and Vicky Sely Magana, 29—both of Santa Cruz. Officers recovered a loaded stolen firearm and nearly 19 grams of heroin, with a street value of about $5,000. Also recovered were high-capacity handgun magazines, a scale and $1,426, Rivera said.

Magana and her two small children were home at the time of the arrest.

The firearm and heroin were recovered near the area of a child’s desk and were within reach of the desk. Child Protective Services was contacted and will conduct a follow-up investigation, Rivera said. The children were released to a relative.

According to Rivera, Godinez, Magana’s live-in boyfriend, is a known gang participant. He was taken into custody as he left his place of employment.

Godinez’s charges include being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sale, child endangerment, probation violation and possession of a controlled substance while armed.

Magana was charged with child endangerment, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a controlled substance while armed and possession of a stolen firearm.

The Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team asks anyone with information about the incident to call 768-6515.
