A man died at Moran Beach along East Cliff Drive in Live Oak Friday.
Ashley Keehn of the Santa Cruz County SheriffՉ۪s Office identified the victim as Hans Materne, 45, of Atlanta, Ga.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies, Harbor Patrol, State Parks, and fire personnel were dispatched to the popular beach around 4:30pm to a report of a man unresponsive in the water.
Emergency personnel arrived and began life-saving efforts, but Materne was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Coroner Unit is investigating the cause and manner of death.
Investigators believe Materne entered the water nearby to go swimming and there is no foul play suspected.
