MONTEREY BAY — An excessive heat warning continues through the region, with temperatures bumping up above 100 degrees in many inland areas.

The National Weather Service is warning the public that temperatures could top out at 115 degrees in some places, bringing a dangerous threat to some folks with heat related illnesses.

The heat also brings a warm welcome blanket for human sourced wildfires.

The National Weather Service offers these warnings:

• Limit outdoor strenuous activities.

• Do not leave kids or pets in cars.

• Stay in air-conditioned areas.

• Drink plenty of fluids.

• Take extra care for pets, crops and livestock.

• Be aware of rip currents at the coast.

The excessive heat wave warning will continue through Monday inland and up to 9 p.m. today along the coast.

Meteorologist Steve Anderson at the National Weather Service of Monterey said Friday that a high pressure ridge “has us in a full Nelson; it is hard to pin down exactly when the temperatures will drop off along the coast and Watsonville, Corralitos and Pajaro.”

Anderson said Hollister topped out at 111 degrees Friday but added that that number should drop down to around 95 to 100 today.

Watsonville peaked out at 104 degrees Friday but will be back to the 80s today, Anderson said.
