ROYAL OAKS — A few weeks ago, a parent of a student at Ohlone Elementary School decided that the kids at the school should understand the full width and breadth of the pride their parents have in them.
And thus was born the school’s Pride of My Family poster contest, where students go home to their parent or guardian with two simple questions: “Are you proud of me?” and “Why?”
The hope, said principal Brett Knupfer, was that the question would spark the type of conversation every parent should have with their children, which would in turn bolster their self-confidence.
The students then created posters based on the conversations. Teachers chose one winner from each grade.
“Some of the posters really do show that the parents had a meaningful conversation,” Knupfer said.
