CASTROVILLE—Three men were killed and another was injured by gunfire early Monday in Castroville during a party that spilled out onto the streets.
On Tuesday the victims were identified as Julian Gallegos, 30, Jeff Robles, 21, and Juliani Robles, 21—all of Salinas—according to the Monterey County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office.
No arrests have been made.
Chief Deputy John Thornburg said deputies and fire officials just after 1am were called to the 10000 block of Sanchez Street off of Merritt Street in Castroville to reports of shots fired.
Deputies found four gunfire victims both inside and outside a small single-story home. Three men were pronounced dead at the scene by 2:20am, Thornburg said. The fourth victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition by ambulance.
Thornburg said the incident stemmed from a loud party at the residence that was being rented as an Airbnb.
One neighbor, who chose not to give their name, said they came home from work after 11pm. Sometime later the neighbor said they heard a woman screaming for help in the otherwise quiet neighborhood on the northwest corner of the town.
Officers from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and the Salinas Police Department on Monday morning still had a section of Sanchez Street sealed off with yellow crime scene tape. On the sidewalk outside the home where the incident occurred, crime investigation yellow markers dotted the pavement. One stood next to an empty bottle of Patron Tequila. Numerous empty beer bottles and several smashed liquor bottles were sprinkled along nearby streets.
The incident is still under investigation.
