Josh Powell, Aptos, (Sr.): Mariners’ senior finished with three touchdowns and nearly 100 rushing yards in last week’s win against Carmel High in Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan play. Powell helped the Mariners improve to 2-1 in league play.
Layla Ruiz, Watsonville, (Jr.): Wildcatz’s junior placed first in the girls’ 3-mile varsity race in last week’s PCAL Mission division meet. Ruiz paced herself to finish in 18 minutes, 3 seconds, nearly a minute ahead of the runner-up.
