
Officials from the National Weather Service have issued a tsunami warning after magnitude 8.7 earthquake occurred at 4:25pm 80 miles southeast of Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka in Russia.
The resulting tsunami is expected to hit California’s coastal regions at about midnight.
According to the National Weather Service, a tsunami advisory includes the coastal areas of California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia from the California-Mexico border to Alaska.
The Weather Service advises that everyone in the area move off the beach and out of harbors and marinas.
The Santa Cruz County Office of Response, Recovery and Resilience said that tsunami heights are forecasted to be less than 1 foot, and to avoid coastal areas as a precaution.
No evacuations are advised at this time.

The City of Monterey Police Department is issuing an evacuation warning to all persons living aboard vessels in the Monterey Harbor District area. The department recommends that these people seek other lodging arrangements for the duration of the tsunami advisory for California coastal counties.
