The Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees will see a change next year, as incumbents Georgia Acosta and Adam Scow took a back seat to challengers Carol Turley and Jessica Carrasco.

Results posted as of 1:30am Wednesday showed Turley ahead for the Trustee Area 2 seat by 55.7%, compared to Acosta’s 43.5%.

Turley said she was “cautiously optimistic” about the results so far.

“A lot of the numbers aren’t in yet, so I don’t want to make any assumptions,” she said.

Turley tipped her hat to the volunteers who worked on the campaign.

“I am really proud and I am really thankful, but I want to wait until all the votes are counted,” she said.

Acosta was elected in 2016, and reelected in 2020. She currently serves as Board President.

Carrasco, meanwhile, was ahead of Scow with just over 52% of the vote for the Trustee Area 6 seat.

Oscar Soto is so far holding on to his Trustee Area 3 seat against challenger Gabriel Medina, garnering 53.44% of the 305 votes so far counted in Santa Cruz County. But District 3 includes part of Monterey County, where Medina was ahead by just one vote.
