WATSONVILLE — Two Watsonville men were arrested Thursday on attempted murder charges following an investigation of a fight on May 17.

Watsonville Police Sgt. Mish Radich said officers were dispatched to a fight on the 100 block of Kearney Street on May 17. When officers arrived, the suspects were gone.

A male victim and a female victim were located at the scene; both suffering from stab wounds. The female was later treated and released from a local hospital.

During the investigation officers learned the male victim had been attacked by the female victim’s ex-boyfriend, Jesus Salvatti, 32, who was accompanied by Fabian Ortega, 21.

Salvatti and Ortega both attacked the male victim, police said. As the female victim tried to intervene, she was also stabbed. Through witness interviews and the review of surveillance video footage from a nearby home, Salvatti and Ortega were positively identified as the suspects in this case, Radich said.

On Thursday at about 8:20 a.m., WPD detectives arrested Salvatti at his home. At about 9:15 a.m., detectives arrested Ortega at his workplace. They were both booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail and are being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
