The two men who were shot and killed Oct. 4 on the 700 block of Carlton Road on the outskirts of Watsonville have been identified as Jeremiah Rios Aguilera and Giovanni Aburto Lopez, both 21 and both of Watsonville.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s detectives believe the shooting was a targeted attack and are currently working to identify suspects, said Sheriff’s spokeswoman Ashley Keehn.

On Oct. 4 deputies were dispatched to a report of two people suffering from gunshot wounds around 12:43am. On Carlton Road on the outskirts of Watsonville.Upon arrival they found the victims down from gunshot wounds.

“Despite life-saving efforts, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene,” Keehn said.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” Keehn said.
