Virginia “Mom” Delgado peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the age of 90 surrounded by her family.
Virginia “Mom” was born on January 28, 1929 to Andrea Ortiz Martinez and Thomas Martinez in Watsonville, CA.
Virginia “Mom” was a devoted homemaker. She loved caring for her family and friends, opening her home on holidays to all, and making her famous tamales. She enjoyed camping and barbeque gatherings. She cherished cooking and caring for her grandchildren, who they’ve also known as “Mom.” Prior to her illness, she attended Green Valley Christian Church and Harbor Light. She always said to all in need, “I will pray for you.” Virginia “Mom” taught us all her homemaking and cooking skills; her delicious meals will be greatly missed, especially her hot-off-the-placá tortillas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Delgado; her sister Jennie Diaz; and her brother Gene Martinez. She is survived by her daughters, Estella Reyes of Gilroy, Linda Limon, Rita (Vince) Valdez of Freedom and Dora (Stan) Curtis of Castroville; her sister, Lupe (Ruben) Lujan and her brother Ray (Elvie) Martinez and Grace (Henry) Hernandez of Sonora; her two sisters-in-law, Dora Reyes and Mary Ramos; and many nieces and nephews in New Mexico. She will be lovingly remembered by her 15 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren who were all her favorites; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation service was held on Wednesday, March 13 at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel in Watsonville. The burial took place on Thursday, March 14 at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park in Watsonville.
A special thanks to Hospice of Santa Cruz, Dr. Marylou Romo Gritzewsky and Dr. Joe Gallagher for all the special care they provided.
