WATSONVILLE — Robert Lyons Sr. celebrated his 100th birthday Saturday at his family home, 50 Beverly Drive in Watsonville, where he has lived for 65 years.
He was born on Jan. 27, 1918 in Cambria. During World War II, Lyons served in France and Germany as part of General Patton’s 3rd Army, participating in the Battle of the Bulge as well as other actions, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Soon after the war ended, Lyons married Burnis Hunter of Berkeley, and immediately started a family, which quickly grew to include three sons, Robert, Nicholas and William. Lyons returned to his job with Pac Bell, eventually becoming a supervisor of underground construction.
The birthday celebration was attended by about two dozen nieces and nephews, special guests/old friends, Wally and Marie Roberts of Watsonville, as well as his immediate family.
