Watsonville police arrest 2 in drugs, weapons bust

WATSONVILLE—A man and a teen were arrested Tuesday morning after police found a quarter kilo of cocaine with a street value of about $17,000, a knife and an untraceable handgun while serving a search warrant on the 100 block of Mañana Lane.

During a traffic stop on Sunday afternoon in Watsonville, a 14-year-old suspect got out of the car and ran from officers, Watsonville Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said. While fleeing, he dumped two backpacks containing a loaded firearm.

Police obtained a search warrant for the teen’s home, Pulido said, where officers found 249 grams of cocaine and a loaded, untraceable gun belonging to 23-year-old Nathan Garcia. The teen was also arrested Monday morning for having a concealed knife, Pulido said.

The search warrant service required a brief lockdown at H.A. Hyde Elementary School that lasted less than 15 minutes.

Garcia has been booked into Santa Cruz County Jail and the 14-year-old was taken to juvenile hall.
