Watsonville police investigating fatal shooting on Green Valley Road

WATSONVILLE—A Watsonville man died Thursday night after he was shot while driving a car on South Green Valley Road.

Michelle Pulido, spokeswoman for the Watsonville Police Department, said a preliminary investigation indicates the victim was driving west on South Green Valley toward Main Street between Lawrence and Loma Prieta avenues when he was shot at least once in the upper torso.

A patrol officer was already in the area shortly after 8pm when the initial radio report was broadcast.

“In less than a minute, the officer was at the scene performing CPR on the victim,” Pulido said. “The 30-year-old Watsonville man died at the scene.”

Little other information was released as of Friday at noon and the victim’s name has not been released.

The shooting marks the first homicide of the year for Santa Cruz County.

“We are looking into the possibility that this incident is gang-related,” Pulido said.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call 471-1151 or the anonymous tip line at 768-3544.
