WATSONVILLE—A Watsonville woman died in a two-vehicle crash late Saturday night on Holohan Road in Watsonville.

According to California Highway Patrol officer Israel Murillo, Breanna Romero, 26, was driving north in a 2015 Hyundai Elantra around 10:20pm. The driver of a  Volvo XC90 was traveling southbound on Holohan Road, approaching Grimmer Road at an undetermined speed. For unknown reasons the driver of the Volvo crossed over the solid double yellow lines and collided head on with the Hyundai. 

Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency officials, Romero suffered fatal injuries. Her passenger, a 25-year-old woman from Moreno Valley, suffered major injuries and was taken to Natividad Hospital. 

Murillo said the driver of the Volvo, Angelica Varon, 38, of Watsonville was arrested on suspicion of DUI and was also taken to Natividad with major injuries. The passenger, a 25-year-old Watsonville man, self-transported to Watsonville Hospital with major injuries. 

Police believe that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.

The incident is still under investigation.
