Watsonville senior Jillian Lerma delivered a walk-off RBI single in the Wildcatz’s 2-1 win over Palma in extra innings in Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division softball action on May 9.

Lerma, who finished with a pair of hits and one RBI, smacked a ball down the third base line with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th inning, while teammates Layla Romero and Adriana Rodriguez each scored one run.

Senior pitcher Amelia Martinez allowed one earned run on five hits and eight walks while tallying 10 strikeouts for Watsonville, which improved to 2-8 in league play this season. The Wildcatz (12-11, 2-8) play at Alverez (14-10, 5-5) on Monday at 4:30pm.

Aptos 15, Soquel 0 (5 innings): Sophomore pitcher Mya Najera-White allowed just three hits while racking up seven strikeouts in the Mariners’ shutout win against the Knights in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play on May 8. 

Teammates Emma Burgueno and Nova Neu each had one home run in the top of the fifth innings, while Kailani Aguayo had one double and scored twice for Aptos, which improved to 9-4 in league play this season. The Mariners (13-7, 9-4) will host Harbor on Tuesday at 4:30pm.  

At San Lorenzo Valley 11, Aptos 9: Emma Burgueno had three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs in the Mariners’ loss to the Cougars in SCCAL play on May 6.

Kailani Aguayo had a pair of hits and drove in two runs for Aptos, while teammate Nova Neu had one double and one RBI. 

SLV senior Angie Fulkerson had a monstrous day at the plate with three hits, including one home run, one double and seven RBIs. Teammate Grace Purtscher had three hits and scored one run.

At Monte Vista Christian 10, Rancho San Juan 7 (8 innings): Freshman Addie Boles crushed a walk-off three-run home run in the Mustangs’ win over the Trailblazer in extra innings in PCAL Mission Division play on May 6.

Boles finished with five hits, including a pair of home runs and seven RBIs, while teammate senior Kayla Fullalove-Silveira had two doubles, one home run, three RBIs and scored three runs. The Mustangs (11-14, 4-11) will play at Pajaro Valley (7-10, 6-4) in non-league action on Tuesday at 4:30pm.

At Pajaro Valley 10, Marina 9: Freshman Nadia Renteria scored the game-winning run on a stolen base in the Grizzlies’ victory over the Mariners in PCAL Cypress Division play on May 7. 

Teammate senior Elena Barron had an inside-the-park home run, one triple and three RBIs, while Jaqueline Alvarez had two hits and drove in three runs for Pajaro Valley. 

Sophomore pitcher Hemeria De La Torre struck out 14 batters to record the complete game win for the Grizzlies (7-10, 6-4), who will host Gonzales (9-9, 8-1) in PCAL Cypress Division action on Monday at 4:30pm.

High school baseball

At Aptos 16, Harbor 2: Alec Mendoza had four hits, two RBIs and scored two runs in the Mariners’ win over the Pirates in SCCAL play on May 9. Teammates Isaiah Work and Adam Ayon each had three hits and drove in one run, while Kaden Kusiak scored three runs. 

Jason Yager allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while tallying seven strikeouts for Aptos, which improved to 5-7 in league play this season. The Mariners (9-13, 5-7) will host Santa Cruz in SCCAL action on Tuesday at 4:30pm.

MVC 9, at Alvarez 3 (9 innings): The Mustangs exploded for six runs in the top of the ninth inning en route to a win over the Eagles in extra innings in PCAL Mission Division action on May 9. Senior catcher Carter Wright had a pair of triples and four RBIs for MVC, while teammate Brady Cortez had a pair of hits and drove in two runs. 

MVC senior Dante Darnell had one hit and scored one run. He also had four strikeouts in three innings pitched on the mound to record the win for the Mustangs, who improved to 9-3 in league play this season.

MVC (19-5, 9-3) plays at Alisal (13-9, 6-6) in PCAL Mission Division play on Monday at 4pm. 

Alvarez 6, at MVC 4: Evan Vessey had three hits, including one double and three RBIs in the Mustangs’ loss to the Eagles in PCAL Mission Division play Wednesday afternoon. Teammate senior Carter Wright had one double and one RBI, while senior Brady Cortez had one double and scored one run. 

At St. Francis 3, Salinas 2: Senior pitcher Nash Horton struck out seven batters in the Sharks’ victory over the Cowboys in PCAL Gabilan Division play on May 8. Teammate freshman Noah Magaña had two hits and scored one run, while Horton had one home run and one RBI. 

Sophomore Nicholas Fantl had one hit and scored one run for the Sharks (12-12, 8-8), who will host Palma (18-5, 12-3) on Tuesday at 4pm.

At King City 10, Watsonville 2: Junior Miles Serrano-Osario and senior Patrick Miller Brown each had one hit and one run scored in the Wildcatz’s loss to the Mustangs in PCAL Cypress Division play on May 8.

Watsonville (11-12, 9-1), which suffered its first loss in league play this season, will play at North Salinas (16-5, 10-0) in a battle for first place in the PCAL Cypress Division on Tuesday at 4pm. 

At Watsonville 3, King City 1: Senior Patrick Miller-Brown had three hits, including one home, one RBI and scored one run in the Wildcatz’s win over the Mustangs in PCAL Cypress Division action on May 6.

Teammates senior Fernando Rodriguez-Bermundez and freshman Brody Barto each had one hit and drove in one run, while senior pitcher Rudy Valdez allowed just one run on four hits and four walks while tallying 13 strikeouts for the complete game victory. 

Girls’ lacrosse

At MVC 18, Aptos 12: Sophomore Maya Moore had five goals and four assists in the Mustangs’ non-league win over the Mariners in the teams’ regular season finale on May 8. Teammate senior Avery Mittleman had six goals and one assist, while junior Sophia Sheridan contributed five goals.

Junior Jamey Mount and sophomore Bianca Perryman each had one goal for MVC (7-10), which placed fifth with a 3-7 record in PCAL Gabilan Division play this season. 

Aptos senior Maya Rosa had seven goals, while teammate junior Aryel Reyes Mager contributed four goals. The Mariners (11-5) finished with a perfect record at 10-0 in PCAL Mission Division play this season.
