Watsonville’s Mayor For The Day contest returns

WATSONVILLE—Pajaro Valley Unified School District high school and middle school students are encouraged to submit essays for the Mayor For The Day contest, which will give one student the chance to spend the day with Watsonville Mayor Jimmy Dutra.

In 2019, Yocelyn Gonzalez, then a senior at Pajaro Valley High School, spent the day with then-mayor Francisco “Paco” Estrada after writing the winning essay. Gonzalez followed Estrada throughout the day, learning what it is like to hold office.

Students must submit a one-page essay discussing important community values, and why they have the qualities to be a good mayor.

Essays must be submitted to Ma**************@***************le.org by Sept.10. Winners will be chosen on Sept. 17.
