Watsonville senior Rudy Valdez tossed a gem in the Wildcatz’s 10-0 victory in five innings over Gonzales in Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress Division baseball action Tuesday afternoon. The ace pitcher recorded a no-hitter while tallying eight strikeouts for the complete game shutout.
Valdez also had three hits, including one triple, one double, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored, while teammate Patrick Miller-Brown had three hits, including two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Kaden Ortiz and Timothy Ruelas each had one base hit and one RBI for Watsonville (2-9, 2-0), which will host Pajaro Valley (1-4, 0-1) in league play April 1 at 5pm.
Aptos 12, at San Lorenzo Valley 1: Isaiah Work allowed one run on one hit while tallying 11 strikeouts in the Mariners’ win over the Cougars in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play Tuesday afternoon.
Teammates Jason Yager, Cole McGillicuddy and Finn Cormier each had a pair of base hits, while Nate Garcia had two RBIs for Aptos (2-4, 1-1), which plays at Soquel (10-1, 1-1) on Friday at 4:30pm.
Monte Vista Christian 4, at Pacific Grove 2: Christopher Bautista allowed two runs on six hits while tallying 12 strikeouts in the Mustangs’ win over Pacific Grove in teams’ PCAL Mission Division-opener Tuesday afternoon.
Teammate Brady Cortez had two hits including one double and a pair of RBIs, while Carter Wright had one hit and one RBI. MVC (8-2, 1-0) will host Pacific Grove (2-6, 0-1) in league play Saturday at 1pm.
St. Francis 5, at Hollister 4: The Sharks exploded for five runs in the fifth inning en route to a victory over the Haybalers in PCAL Gabilan Division action Tuesday afternoon. Javier DaRosa-Fonseca hit a three-run home run, while teammate Mason Borrego had three hits, including one double and one RBI.
Nash Horton had a pair of doubles and one RBI for St. Francis (6-3, 3-2), which will host Hollister (7-3, 4-1) on Friday at 4pm.
High school softball
At Aptos 13, North Monterey County 3 (5 innings): Emma Burgueno batted 2-for-3 with one double, three RBIs and scored one run in the Mariners’ win over the Condors in non-league play Friday. Teammate Lilly McGee had a pair of hits, including one home run and two RBIs, while Kailani Aguayo and Nova Neu each had two hits and a pair of RBIs.
Mya Najera-White recorded the win in the circle, allowing three runs one four hits while tallying four strikeouts for Aptos (5-4, 2-2), which will host Harbor (1-5, 0-3) on April 1 at 4:30pm.

Lanies Nuñez finished with a pair of doubles and one stolen base, while Mya Najera-White allowed eight runs—five earned—on 10 hits while tallying 11 strikeouts for Aptos.

Teammate Samantha Bertoldi finished with three hits, including a pair of doubles, five stolen bases, two RBIs and scored five runs, while Juliana Lopez and Ava Alvarado each had a pair of base hits.
Harper Ealy Whitby allowed five runs—three earned—on seven hits while recording nine strikeouts in six innings of work in the circle for MVC (7-6, 1-3), which plays at Alisal (4-3, 2-1) on March 31 at 4:30pm.
At SLV 16, Harbor 2 (5 innings): Sophia Sarmiento, Grace Purtscher and Bailey Filice each had three RBIs in the Cougars’ win against the Pirates in SCCAL play Thursday afternoon. Teammate Elie Colby allowed one hit and one walk while recording six strikeouts in the circle for SLV (5-4, 3-0), which plays at Santa Cruz (4-4, 2-0) on April 1 at 4:30pm.
Boys track and field
King City 99.5, Watsonville 36.5: Senior Gerardo Acosta-Perez won the 110m high hurdles in 18.65 seconds and the pole vault with a leap of 10 feet, 6 inches in the Wildcatz’s loss to the Mustangs in the teams’ PCAL Mission Division dual meet Thursday afternoon.
Freshman Noel Navarro won the 300m intermediate hurdles in 44 seconds for Watsonville, which will compete in the 52nd annual Avis Kelley Track and Field Invitational at Gilroy High School on Saturday. Field events begin at 8:30am and track events are scheduled at 9:30am.
Girls track and field
Watsonville 77, King City 59: The Wildcatz earned their first PCAL Mission Division dual meet victory of the season with a win over the Mustangs on Thursday afternoon. Senior Katelynn Ruiz won both the 800m and 1600m races in 2 minutes, 38.10 seconds and 5:44.97, respectively.
Teammate senior Jocelyn Guzman won the 400m in 1:05.72 and 300m hurdles in 52.51, while junior Azucena Sandoval won the 3200m in 12:37.30. Jayleen Arredondo won the pole vault with a jump of 8 feet and Brianna Vanegas won the triple jump with a leap of 29-8.

SLV 217, Harbor 240: Kennan Buntz shot a 37 in the Cougars’ win over the Pirates in SCCAL action at DeLaveaga Golf Course Tuesday afternoon. Teammate James Dahlen shot a 39, followed by Locklin Bischofberger (45), Garret Dahlen (47) and Tanner Brewer (49).
Harbor’s Kaden Nunton (37) also earned medalist honors, followed by teammates Gunther Krueger (43), Kyler Samples (47), Jack Locknane (56) and Brody Yappert (57).
