The Aptos girls volleyball team saw its season end in the first round of the California Interscholastic Federation Division III playoffs.

No. 11 Aptos lost 25-20, 25-16, 25-19 to Head-Royce on Tuesday in Oakland.

Aptos, the runner-up in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League and Central Coast Section D-III playoffs, finished the year with a 25-10 overall record.

The Mariners will graduate five: Jillian Rodriguez, Caroline Greenly, Alondra Tapia, Carolina Ogden and Chloe Manor.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Aptos takes 3rd – Aptos (80) finished third behind Scotts Valley (33) and San Lorenzo Valley (56) in the SCCAL Championships at Pinto Lake County Park in Watsonville on Nov. 1.

Aptos senior Josiah Sweet was fourth as an individual with a time of 16 minutes, 1 second.

No other Mariner finished in the top 10.

S.L.V. senior Chris Anderson (15:35) won the league’s individual title for the third straight season.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Mariners finish 5th – Aptos’ six-year reign over the SCCAL came to an end at Nov. 1’s SCCAL Championships at Pinto Lake County Park in Watsonville.

Aptos, which had won 13 of the past 15 team titles, took fifth, and missed qualifying as a team for Saturday’s CCS Championships for the first time in at least 20 years.

San Lorenzo Valley (59) won the league championship. Scotts Valley (75), Santa Cruz (79) and Soquel (81) finished ahead of the Mariners (87).

Junior Kailea Zlatunich and sophomore Kirsten Martin took fifth (19:08) and 10th (19:58), respectively, to advance to CCS as individuals.

Santa Cruz’s Lila Roake (17:42) won the SCCAL individual title.
