Keep the umbrella and raincoat handy; here comes another wet storm. The National Weather Service has posted a wind advisory and flash flood watch starting this afternoon through 3 a.m. Wednesday. Rain is likely after 4 p.m. today.
On Tuesday, rain is likely, mixed in with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
On Tuesday night the rain chance bumps up to 90 percent and gusts could reach 26 mph. New precipitation amounts will be between a quarter and half of an inch.
Carolina Walbrun, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Monterey, said, “We have a storm front moving into the north San Francisco Bay and we’re starting to see some showers in the San Francisco area. Tuesday showers will start spreading south and into Watsonville. The main showers will not be here until Tuesday night.”
There will be a few showers Wednesday with a chance of few thunderstorms after 10 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall.
Wednesday night will have a 50 percent chance of showers, with mostly cloudy conditions and a low around 48.
There will be a slight chance of showers on Thursday but it will begin to dry out, Walbrun said.
“Friday should be dry,” she said.
A small amount of rain is being predicted for Saturday with Sunday being dry.
Meanwhile, Caltrans has announced a temporary closure of Highway 1 in the areas of Mud Creek and Paul’s Slide in Big Sur set for Tuesday. Officials said they “received confirmation from National Weather Service that a significant storm is in the forecast for this week, which led to the closure that will go into effect 5 p.m. Tuesday.”
The gates on either side of Mud Creek and Paul’s Slide will be key locked, Caltrans said. The gates will not be manned when the highway is closed. No one, including Emergency Services or Caltrans employees, will be allowed access until a proper assessment can be made and any necessary cleanup has been completed.
