Any idea when the English-language version will be released? I’d like to read it.
I’d say another three years. The Spanish version encompasses so much, including use of popular “pocho” words like marketa and watchear, I intend to leave the translation to someone else…
thank you for responding online, Graydon. i look forward to the Spanish version. i hope that at some point in the future, you can have a book signing ceremony at Kelly’s Books.
You are such a lickspittle. What won’t you do for a vote?
I think I hear the death rattle. I went last year and was less than impressed. Now with advance registration and fees this may be the last year. Oh well, nice try.
Zoom meetings with passcodes and even more minutia? Was this designed to exclude the old folks? How many of them have even a clue what you’re demanding of them. Wise up, complacent politicians!
New library and newly paved streets in Aptos while Watsonville still has horrible roads on Lakeview, Buena Vista, Freedom Blvd, San Andreas and many others. Why can’t our supervisor, Caput, get anything done for Watsonville??
PS Ballots for election were mailed out on last Thursday. I still haven’t gotten mine ant they’re supposed to be First Class. I called county election department and verified my mailing address and asked them when they were mailed. I guess the PO is still slowing down our mail. It took 6 days to get a First Class letter to Florida. That’s horrible service courtesy of Trump appointee DeJoy. He’s still delaying our mail for Trump.
NO WAY SHOULD FIRST CLASS MAIL FROM SANTA CRUZ TAKE 7 DAYS.
Oh, poopoo, you’re such a chronic complainer. Relax and enjoy what remains of your life.
Of course nothing will come of this foolishness, but at least Elaine now has a secure place at the public trough: Say cheese.
Watsonville deserves more.
well said. Cabrillo deserves more as well . that is why i am running for the Cabrillo board of trustees , district 7. see the last page of your sample ballot and voter info guide for my ballot statement.
(Jeez, what an attention whore; did you notice this article isn’t about you?)
Further, does “see the last page” mean you aren’t giving us your position paper, here in the RP as promised? If so, your boyfriend should slap you upside the head for telling us a lie.
I noticed that. You’d think by now he’d realize he’s coming across as a fool.
i responded to Soylent Green. i stand by my comment. try reading your sample ballot statements for ALL the candidates, including mine.
I can imagine the responce for farting in public
i am hoping they will offer food made on site as well. good luck to them.
And good luck to you, Stevie on your fool’s errand.
(November 3rd = AMF)
It’s a brewery not a restaurant buddy.
thank you for your novel, Graydon . You are correct. What you heard is what i heard before i moved here in 2015. But I knew it was racist garbage, as Dave spews constantly. i knew Rebecca Garcia, the Daniel Dodges, Eduardo Montesino and others years before i moved here. i was invited to events here. i came to some of their homes.
i KNEW what utter racist crap the right wing population in our county had attempted to paint over Watsonville. I knew i could live here, HAPPILY. And i do. At the same time, i will fight the false negative image they continue to paint of our city in the media , such as the Pajaronian, the Patch, Nextdoor.com , the Weekly Good Times, the Mercury news, Facebook and elsewhere. Whether I am elected this year or not, I will continue to promote a racially diverse, welcoming attitude of Watsonville to all who wish to make this a great community. That is my goal.
Stevie, sweetie, this article was NOT about you.
Come November maybe you’ll get over yourself.
A remarkable thing about “Mujeres con navajas” is that, despite an often harrowing storyline and some harsh things to say about 1980s Watsonville, so many of the book’s readers are eager to pay the town a visit. They sense Watsonville has a special something lacking where they live.
Thank you , staff , for this analysis of these 3 measures on our ballot.
I support all three measures.
19 other states allow parolees to vote. CA needs to join them.
we need to enourage soon-to-be voters tp vote as soon as they turn 18.
we need to stop penalizing seniors from being able to move by dramatically increasing their property tax burden. SO WRONG. and yes, that group includes me.
Regarding prop 17, Kevin McCarthy is the House of Reps minority leader, a Republican, from Bakersfield. He is no Democrat.
I know . i gave money to his opponent this year to DEFEAT HIM.
Yawn.

Ryan forgot to tell you, this “won’t cost the taxpayers anything” https://media1.giphy.com/media/26ufkPxWIxjG3Ya2c/giphy.gif
Steve, your turn – since you’re running for Cabrillo ‘trustee’
A yes vote on Prop 15 is a great start to help our schools. I also feel that Prop 13 should be relooked at. I live in a neighborhood where my neighbors home is of higher value than mine. Yet I pay almost 8 times more than this person does. This person also owns many rentals that are also paying way less in taxes due to prop 13. I’m older than my neighbor and earn much less in income yet I’m hit with more taxes.
Please Calif state officials, look again at Prop 13 in the future and start adjusting out the unfairness of the tax structure and let’s really fix our schools and pay our teachers a better salary. Teachers are the key to our kids future and the future of our country,
Well said Felipe. I plan to vote yes on Prop 15.
isn’t this a little overdue ?
for those of you who feel that Watsonville deserves more, i hope you read my letter to the editor regarding why voting for a Cabrillo community college should matter to you in the Friday, Oct. 9 edition.
Just hope that this plan doesn’t backfire on you.. and business go to a different state.
Great idea along with killing cash bail for minor offenses. Let people do community service instead of bankrupting them with hefty fines.
clearly, we need to use residence motels for the homeless. and we need to seek out abandoned builidngs for the same reason. better to have homeless people in housing than living in cars, garages, under highway 1 overpasses , the sloughs and behind Home Depot.
Here’s a thought, Stevie. How about we house them in abandoned cars in junkyards.
Even you with your misdirected compassion must know, they don’t want to live with your rules and your curfews, they’d rather live in a burrow.
yes, I know the vast majority of sheriff’s deputies are professinal and have a good reputation. nonetheless, these incidents are troubling. clearly, these 2 deputies need counseling and therapy. i am sorry for both of them.
and county jails should not be used as a lab rat laboratory. we dont have to like the inmates, but they need to be treated like human beings.
I know. i worked , early in my teaching career, as a state teacher for prison inmates: English, math and fire science. i dont recommend it.
Majority of thin blue line are conservative no way they are endorsing steviedoux
“the vast majority of sheriff’s deputies are professinal and have a good reputation” would have been adequate, Stevie. But you had to continue on to try to smear the profession with more anti-american smut. What’s up with you? You think this crap will get you votes from the thin blue line?
No, no and no. With everyone hurting right now I think it’s shameful to be pushing this crap. Show me a measure that won’t cost us taxpayers anything.
there are at least 5. go to your state proposition booklet sent to you last week by the CA sec. of state. NO, NO , NO is a simplistic way of voting for those who cant or wont use their reading skills and trust their brain to make an informed decision.
Such arrogance. As a teacher, is that how you talked down to your students who may have had a different opinion than yourself? You seem to think you’re better and smarter than everyone else. Get over yourself. You’re not.
To paraphrase our baby Jesus, the crumbums will always be with us.
POOBAH is correct. thank you, Poo, for your comment. We need to VOTE YES ON 15.
all excellent letters, by the way. it is good our residents have food for thought when they read so close to election day.
One of the biggest issues that results in homelessness is alcohol and widespread drug abuse.
Putting people in housing and allowing the drugs and hard core boozing to continue will do nothing to solve the problem…it’ll just be moved off the streets temporarily.
OY! Graffito Banditos!
I think I recognize two of the perps – both stoonts of Steve’s when he taught school in prison.
Dave, Do you think these graffito banditos- sprayed BLM? Or Biden/Harris?
If in fact they were Steve’s stoonts I doubt they know who those people are.
Watsonville has a wonderful city employee, Rex Rackley, who has removed endless graffiti for years. He has earned our thanks, and maybe a medal from the city, for his diligence and perseverance in painting over the graffiti.
if convicted, the three men should work under Rex’s direction for weeks to paint over the graffiti others use to deface public and private property.
what we DO NOT need are racist assumptions as to the movtivation of those convicted of public vandalism.
we have a great community. but those who demean others through racist comments only seek to sew hatred.
Good work, to the person that called it in the and WPD!
Hopefully they will actually receive some kind of punishment.
In Santa Cruz they probably wouldn’t have even received a ticket….
thank you Mav’Ricks.
Steve Will never ever blame Newson for his shitty lockdown.
I can understand them shutting it down for “natural” phenomena, but come on shutting it off for over usage, that’s bullshit. Make some more power that’s why y’all charge for a service. Or is it that solar energy is a huge scam?
Steve, surely you can make political hay from General Hyde’s death.
Does anybody know if HA HYDE elementary was named after this fine veteran?
thank you for all you did for our nation, Mr. Hyde. you will be missed.
You’re like Pavlov’s dog
He vehemently opposed your campaign Steve.
we have a need for housing that people can afford. leaving people homeless is NOT an option that will make life better for the rest of us in Watsonville.
we need a system of residential parking decals to help enforce limits on parking density.
we also need the city to ENFORCE housing codes on a citywide basis. there are many places of residence in our city that don’t meet them.
we will need to examine builidng UP, with second story expansion allowed in neighborhoods where it is currently prohibited. That has worked elsewhere.
the city council needs to be actively engaged in seeking solutions.
the voters can help by voting YES on props 15 and 21.
long overdue. EBT cards should be acceptable at all food outlets.
I remember Hal and his wife Perky quite well. Both were down to earth kind humans and he’ll be missed. RIP Hal Hyde.
Lemme see if I’ve got this right: We increase our payroll with more salaried shysters and it costs us not a penny? But worry not, the perps still go free.
(See Todd, you could have sold us this horseshit in one paragraph – and been home with your family a couple of hours earlier.)
Anybody else notice the cars are pointed in the wrong direction?
Fake news?
Y’all realize Dave wants everything to be shut and everyone to be mandated to wear a mask
shocking and disturbing.
Yes, Steve, that’s pretty obvious. I look forward to the day you get over yourself – November 3rd, for instance.
needed reforms are welocme.
We’re getting down to the short strokes, Esteban. When are you going to tell us who you really are?
i support the drive in theater idea. the Boardwalk is in hard times and this is a good way of making passive income. unfortunately, it does not employ too many people. i am hopeful the Board walk management can find other ways to explore ways to increase income during the holidays so the year is not a total disaster for their balance sheet.
and then maybe the Seaside company should forego their proposal building 2 drive though crap cafes at Main and Auto center drive. that would be helpful to OUR city.
locaboy831, I think he’s just flailing – clutching at any straw to save his drowning political hopes.
He claims that his homosensual colleagues recently voted him this year’s ‘HERO’.
And yet, they’re strangely quiet here when he needs them (if they exist).
AMF Stevie.
it is about ALL of us, including you. you prove my point about the Boardwalk. they do not need the income from 2 more drive through crap cafes at Main and Auto center drive that are NON UNION, low paying dead end jobs. We need ro provide job training for better jobs that have benefits. That is what Cabrillo college can do, with new board members ( the other 2 challengers in their Cabrillo districts ), including me.
and anyone who has lived in this county ( as i have for 22 years), knows that the Boardwalk has few career jobs that pay above $15 an hour. Cabrillo has the ability to provide more classes that award certification to better jobs , particularly in the health careers field. these are much better than fast food jobs that actually reduce the quality of life for our residents.
“me” https://media4.giphy.com/media/13zBXG02rOLfck/giphy.gif
thank you UCSC.
thank you, Jane, for your service to our county.
Steve’s Pavlovian, he just can’t help slobbering when he hears that bell, any bell – even bell-bottom trousers make him drool.
It’s sad, but it looks like PooPoo is his only endorser.
So, Steve, come 11-4 what are you going to do with your paltry life?
(I’m sure your boyfriend has already asked you that pregnant question – several times)
And thank you, Jesus, for giving us Steve.
i am voting NO on 20 and 22. I am voting YES on 21. feel free to disagree with me, but do it without foul language and insults, please.
civil discourse is vital in a democracy. without it, violence and anarchy take over.
Good for you Steve. Nobody cares.
Although the most important one is should we let felons incarcerated vote? I don’t think so.
Tarmo Very respectfully Who cares! So tired of all the coverage this store is getting. Just another store to buy food from.
I have to guess Steve’s ‘sleeping in’. Not to worry, we’ll be hearing from him soon.
good use of the Cares act money. thank you Nancy Pelosi and Dems for this needed aid to our schools.
we look forward to the opening of Staff of Life as soon as humanly possible.
we dont need any more empty store fronts in Watsonville. We do need delicious, healthy food,
I reccomend all city residents take this survey. it is YOUR chance to speak as to what you want the downtown to be in this next few decades. i enjoyed taking the survey. thanks to the city for making this possible.
only thoughtful, reasoned discourse is needed for what will happen to Downtown Watsonville. What will be discarded is misinformation, insults and vulgarities.
Slobbering for votes, are you Stevie? Do you write similar kiss-ass crap in an off-election year?
Prop 22 is a response to AB5- an attempt to make all independent operators/business people have to join unions in order to work. Newspapers, uber drivers, anyone who operates as an independent worker has been impacted by AB5, a horrible bill on nearly all accounts.
Vote yes on 22 to allow independents to stay that way, as most prefer.
prop 22 is designed by Uber and Lyft so they will not have to pay sick leave , provide health insurance or any benefits. AB5 protects workers from corporate attempts to further diminish the middle class. UBER and LYFT could not care less about their employees. One ex relative and my son both drove for UBER and are happy to have left their employment. These companies are solely exploiting the drivers as servile robots.
this is NOT the America in which I grew up. and I will do everything in my power to fight it. we are not a third world nation, despite Trump’s efforts to make us so.
thank you WPD and Santa Criuz county Sheriffs.
To paraphrase Steve, “Please help me, thin blue line! As you know, I’ve always adored youse guys.”
Wait! my jacket!
Daang! This is some Jerry springier shit here. Last year on the same house where these folks used to live there was a shooting.
An attempt to raise property taxes on commercial property (that’s businesses, folks) ay a time when the business community (that’s where we work and earn money) is unconscionable!!
It’s bad enough so many businesses have folded and are struggling to survive, but now bureaucrats with insatiable hungers for tax revenue want to raise taxes on commercial property
under “tax the evil rich” mantra.
Most see through the thinly veiled attempt to erode prop 13 tax protection the from run away property taxes that caused a tax payer support of prop 13 originally.
You really have to thank them for their efficiency and saving tax dollars.
Dang! This is some Goosebumps shit here.
SCCS is full of scandals.. 2 felons died in custody. Staff sleeping with inmates. Sheriff taking a knee. Oh no! What would Steve-O dude?
Watsonville Apples have to be the best apples in the world!
On a better topic- why on earth are these two turds wearing a mask in an outdoors? They are also social distancing themselves… oh no! Steve corrupted their innocent minds.
Thank You United States Border Patrol!
Steve Trujillo would be upset that these kids aren’t wearing a mask. Vote Steve for Trustee 2020!
All these queers trying to take down the Bust because of George Floyd Death- how pathetic! Shame on you!
Esteban, I thought I’d walk through downtown on the 3rd to see how you’re holding up. Can you give us any idea where you’ll be?
If shivering and whimpering under your bedding is your answer, you get a pass.
What Class-A raw bullpucky you’re serving us tonight, Tarmo. Public transportation will never be safe until the air is at least HEPA filtered
Keeping the bus hatches and widows open is the best protection. With winter weather, that goes out the window.
Fair point, Soy. But our neighbors to the north, in their sealed tubes (BART, CALTRAIN and VTA trolleys) don’t have the option of opening windows.
Why don’t y’all repaint it! Not rocket science!
It was painted 30 years ago and hard to replicate unless there are detailed photos and copies of the design available. Most of the artists involved don’t even live in Watsonville anymore. Get real.
Agree! Re-paint a new one for the the current students a modern- 2020 one with new current input l.
Reproductions are not art.
Steve, this has your name written all over it. “Sensimilla Steve’s” in pulsating neon lights.
Seems they’ve closed the application process, but with the people in high places you brown-nose with/at you might consider appealing. (Since you are such an appealing guy.)
You contribute nothing to the conversation except name calling.
MYOB, old woman, nobody’s talking to you. Just sit back in your
rocker and enjoy the show: Steve, the bored housewife, is going down
in flames 11-3.
How very intellectual of you. You can only convey your point by name calling and ageism.
I bet your mommy is very proud of you. Okolepuna.
Get over yourself, sweetlips. This isn’t about you; this isn’t
about me or my mother.
This is about Steve, the great pretender. (I liked you
better when you ‘blocked’ me.)
Steve, can you give us a sneak peek at your costume? Are you doing pink again this year?
Labeling this mural as too Hispanic was disgusting. I loved that mural and am very sad they destroyed it.
Art is art and it’s truly unfortunate that PVUSD didn’t take responsibility to protect it.
Artist Aranda has contributed so much to our community and so have our students whose wonderful art is displayed at city hall on the 4th floor. I spend quite a bit of time admiring the current art displayed recently when I dropped off my ballot. It’s truly wonderful with fantastic colors and imagination shown by our local students artists.
We need more art and music in our schools so kids can learn to appreciate it and get involved.
PVUSD owes all the artists involved an apology for their lack of attention protecting this wonderful art.
I support all three of these measures. It’ll be great if they pass.
PooPoo, isn’t it time for your diaper change, and then your nappy-nap?
LOL!
Why is there only one license available in Watsonville. We could use 3 or 4 and it would increase city tax revenue which has taken a huge hit. Think outside the box, Watsonville city council. You are behind the times.
Congratulations Mrs. Roberts. I had you for homeroom in high school. You’re very kind.
yes, she is !!!
Even tho she’s Anglo? One of the invaders? One of the torturers and murderers of a culture? Don’t lose sight of your hatred for whites.
Steve, she seems like a nice old lady. I’ll just bet she’d like to see one of your obsequious comments for her 92nd B’day.
Orange is the new Black.
So, how ’bout this Steverino? We move Washington’s bust to the
Cabrillo campus? And rename the place Trujillo-Washington Jr College?
WAIT A MINUTE! Trujillo? Isn’t that a genocider’s name?
Don’t forget the Laird part.
Glorified graffiti, now there will be a racial neutral wall.
send her name to trumpdump. she will make a perfect new attorney general, following the lead of the soon to be DIS-barred one.
Trump will appoint her to SCOTUS.
clean your own, boy.
90 percent of my funding is from MY savings account. i have a few contributions , all of them small. I manage my money well. I will do the same for Cabrillo College.
murder is up in many communities across the nation. we are no exception. It is still nonetheless disturbing and should be on the city council agenda this Tuesday. rest assured that i will bring it up at communications from the public.
Never miss a chance to hear yourself talk, huh?
I never miss a chance to speak out about local issues of concern, Gern. you have the same right as I do on this website. stop complaining.
more of your endless garbage. you do not know me, my past or even why I am running for office as you ignore my ballot statement, my past work in the community and make up stuff about my income and drinking habits. you are an internet troll boy. I am not interested who Manny Solano’s friends are. My point is: compromise is necessary. Both he and his friends, along with the Revoluna group need to compromise. Then move on to other matters, like the Downtown specific plan.
if anyone needs to sober up, it is YOU.
whatever the election result, I will continue to comment using this website. I am not a member of either the Solano group or the Revoluna group. I proposed a compromise. Apparently, you are unable to read what i wrote.
your nasty, exreme reaction is typical of people who cant understand reason and embrace nasty gut reaction. because they are too lazy to use reason, logic or accept new information that is FACTUAL.
you have no idea, nor do you care, what i have done for others, including my community.
i dont bitch and moan. i present facts and propose solutions. you do nothing of the sort but express an alcohol iinduced whine about anyone with an education who uses it for the behefit of the community.
therefore, i am putting you on MUTE, permanently.
Marie is a wonderful friend and fellow resident of Pajaro Village. I am so proud of her and so glad she is my neighbor. You go, girl !!!
now, can we get someone to open a REAL chop shop? lamb chops, pork chops, meat chops to please the carnivores in our community.
these chop shops are a disgrace and a real pain in the ass . an ATV, a travel trailer and 9 vehicles. it that is not a crime spree, i will eat my Honda Fit.
thank you SC sheriff’s dept. for busting this place . The Ormsby cutoff is a lovely, tranquil area for nature . let it return to its natural self.
Could it be that the president was sampling the product while the CEO was tapping the till?
Listening to NOAA. Still waiting for the big winds (Sunday, 1945). East winds tomorrow for Monterey bay to approach 20 knots. Unusual, but nothing to write home about.
So agree! Or reporting “progress” of staff of life. I get it Steve and Harmo are excited but most of us don’t really care on updates.
On a bright side wish there were high enough winds to blow Steve Trujillo Away from
Watsonville.
RIP Officer Ciglar.
thank you, Tony , for publishing my letter and making the case for compromise. Leadership requires compromise. it does not mean excusing genocide or any other atrocity. What it does is bring historical figures in history to account for their actions. As a former history teacher, I can say that is a GOOD THING.
Hey Steve-O, who the hell are we to judge if George Washington gets a “free pass”…
I mean do you think, honestly think that Native Americans were welcoming “tourist” with a margarita and a carne asada? No, they were fighting them and trying to kill them- survival of the fittest buddy.
Washington had wood dentures and wore Pink formal wear. That makes him kinda interesting. Leave him alone.
Steve, any idea where you’ll be hanging out Election Day?
The hospice?
Tarmo – they are wards of the state. Once we admit that we can take proactive steps, such as putting them in enclosed areas like Manzinar without ingress or egress.
Sounds like a gang war looming.
not necessarily. education can break the cycle. read my response above. but Cabrillo needs to be PROACTIVE, not just a bystander uninvolved in social change.
my sincere condolences to the families of the victims. this did not have to happen.
As i said at last night’s council meeting, perhaps the WPD gang task force needs to come back into existence with an emphasis on PREVENTION, rather than simply continuing the cycle of recidivism of gang members in and out of prison. That is where Cabrillo college can help. It needs to offer those lccked up in county jail the opporturnity to take classes online, in jail, to turn their lives around.
Both presentations were interesting. we dont get to see you, Tony, in this role. thank you for making the case for the Pajaronian.
I love pasta, but we do have other good pasta restaurants in Watsonville, although not many.
Pizza is NOT pasta.
But the 5 unit botique hotel is a real laugher. $100 to $200 a night for a room is gentrification that we dont need. we already have some gentrification now. this would add more.
the Pajaronian needs a place that would sponsor interns to enter journalism, just like you did , Tony. The city needs to find a place downtown to do this. You and Martinelli cider are the two oldest businesses in the city. Both businesses are icons in our city. The city manager and planning statt can find you a building. Your offices on Brennan are less than adequate.
We need a place to celebrate the arts in Watsonivlle. the Pajaro Valley Arts council made a great presentation and made many cogent points. We need affordable arttist studio space. WE HAVE NONE. We have many talented artists in our city. The Porter buidling will be part of the Watsonville Renaissance that i campaigned for two years ago. I discussed the need for aritists’ studios in downtown in the campaign. Both my rivals ignored the idea and would not discuss it . i am glad the council is now seriously considering my idea.
It was a productive meeting filled with many residents’ good comments.
Ay, ay, ay.
There is no reason not to vote if you are a registered voter. ignore trumpdump and his threats. he is on his way out. On November third, fire the orange turd.
One of the best discussions at a city council meeting, EVER.
October 29, 2020:
Tony Gomez: A dedicated and experienced leader for City Council.
Voters in District 6 have a chance to elect a very highly qualified candidate, Tony Gomez, to become their councilman and the next mayor. The City of Watsonville needs a stable and dedicated leader in these uncertain times. Tony’s lifelong career with PG&E required safety to be of paramount importance, along with integrity and responsibility. You would not stay long in his line of work if you were undependable.
Tony is a lifelong Watsonville resident, a family man, and member of the IBEW electrical workers union, so has the natural ability to represent the community, our workers, our elderly, and our youth. Tony is a veteran and served in Korea and this service is further evidence of his dedication to serve, even at great personal risk.
As a member of the Watsonville High School E-tech Advisory Committee, I am tasked with helping to match students with industry mentors. Tony shares his experience in the skilled trades with high school students as a volunteer mentor. Tony didn’t hesitate when I asked him if he would become a high school mentor.
His dedication to the community and attention to public safety is proven by many years serving as Scout Master, facilitator of Sober Grad Night, and his desire to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the city. He also wants to be sure our agricultural workforce and their families have safe and stable work conditions. These are characteristics you look for in a stable leader, one who cares about his work and his community.
Endorsed by council members Lowell Hurst, Ari Parker, Aurelio Gonzalez, Felipe Hernandez and Trina Coffman-Gomez as well as Santa Cruz County Supervisor Greg Caput, Tony Gomez is the kind of leader and just the kind of person Watsonville needs to lead the community through uncertain times.

Jeezy Peezy – are you trying for further hobble these kids? Do you think learning this caca will get them into MIT or Caltech? Or is that your plan, to keep them at home flipping burgers and cleaning houses? I worry for Watsonville kids. Better you should be teaching them their ABCs: Assimilate, Behave and Contribute.
I wonder if this will be followed by indoctrinating summer camps for the youngsters.
If Steve has his way? You betchum, Red Ryder.
“This should be a requirement for graduation from Cabrillo college as well.”
Watch out, folks, this guy is trouble, with a capital T.
rigtht, Paw Paw. do you think PVUSD has money for running summer camps ? get a clue.
Can’t wait to see the new panels and the refreshed paint.
thank you , Yermo, for taking on this task. we look forward to the result.
If you need a larger footprint, Steve, bend over. I see you’ve got PooPoo in tow. Isn’t it way past her nappy time?
(And yet, she, your only defender, hasn’t endorsed you here, at your house organ, the ever-objective RP?
‘Sup wid dat?)
This is why the Pajaro Valley Arts council needs to move to the Porter buidling. i wont demean the facility on Sudden street, but it is too small for the PVA plans for the future.
this is a beautiful display, and thanks to the Pajaronian for the great photos, just in time for Dia de los Muertos and Halloween.
just in time for election day.
thank you, PVUSD , for expanding the curriculium to defeat racism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia and bigotry. This should be a requirement for graduation from Cabrillo college as well.
Let us hope this will lead to the end of Trumpism in south county in the future.
I’ll give you a counseling number- call them
On Tuesday old man.
Y’know what I love about the loopy left? They’re humorless. And they’ve got so many enemies (see above): I’ll bet Steve hasn’t smiled since his boyfriend vamoosed. Or more likely, since birth.
Todd, you forgot to say this policy creates a crabby mood among the crabbers.
City Manager Matt Huffaker revealed at Tuesday’ s city council meeting that the library is scheduled to reopen, for less public traffic and masks, in mid November. Good news.
Felipe over crazy tantrum Steve Trujillo ??? Yes please do us all a favor.
Let me guess… all 4 are white and don’t habla español?
I think we have enough Starbucks in town. time for OTHER food and drink options, city council.
But wait, Stevie, this one has extras: “Drive thru” access, carbon emissions, teens and 67 year olds – of all sensual persuasions – kanoodling in the back seat
You say Pence failed at protecting his team. What a stupid statement to make. Was he supposed to put them in a Ziploc bag? If you ever had kids and they got the flu was that your fault also then?
Schools need to concentrate more on teaching reading, writing, arithmetic and even though I hated it, history. Many today have no idea why this country was founded or what our forefathers went through for America. There’s too much opinion dripping from “teachers” mouths today. Especially political.
Excellent point, PaPaw2. Learning the basics is tough work, i failed algebra, english and a couple of others I forget. But, God love my tough teachers, they gave me a second chance, Today’s teachers, of which Steve is a perfect example, just let it slide – social promotion is the norm; If you’re old enough then – regardless of failing or passing – you move to the next higher grade. AARGH, don’t get me started.
i cant tell you hated history. that is obvious.
Roberto, I’ve taken the liberty of re-posting something you wrote a year ago. Although it’s not about tomorrow’s election, it does show his character flaws. Voters, be on your toes. Steve is a shit disturber, not a leader, not an educator.
Roberto’s thoughts on Steve: “You are nothing more than the stereotypical definition of a highly triggered social justice warrior. You and your crew of chaos discontents have more than shown that PVHOA can no longer govern itself without outside intervention. Perhaps, it should even be dissolved. Maybe have the elitist use of your contentious clubhouse, RV lot, and community
garden made open to the rest of the Watsonville community. You love name
calling, labeling, and intimidating people. Nobody marches to your drum
beat; they get the usual branding of “homophobe”, “xenophobe”, or the
lovely “racist”. All the fine people of this town have to do is monitor
your social media posts and they will catch the hints of Anglophobia,
and even heterophobia. Even yet, they should be attending the HOA
meetings to see what REALLY goes on –not just take “your” word for it.
You may have been a victim at some point in your life, but you sure love
making people pay for your perceived suffering nowadays. “Hero”…? Just
another participation trophy in a PC world. I loved the camera story,
btw… Quite the exaggeration of facts…lol BTW, lovely people… Captain
Chaos was voted VP of the PVHOA when he first moved to Watsonville. He
was almost overwhelmingly not re elected.”
At least 10-20% of these kids don’t even speak
English buddy a big chunk of em
Are immigrants… why would you need to teach them ethnic studies when they lived ‘’non-ethnic’ Real life experience.
“ A broad historical perspective should be added.” In that case schools that were named after Cesar Chavez should also have perspective added as he was no saint.
He did not advocate or promote genocide of the indigenous population. He did not own slaves. He brought dignity and respect to farmworkers. He was not a sexual predator. He encouraged farmworkers to be proud of themselves, acquire more education, become citizens, assert their human rights and bring worker safety and health for farmworkers into consideration which had been completely ignored before the establishment of the UFW. God bless Cesar Chavez.
and none of us is sainted, indluding both of us.
Yeah. God bless him. He eventually started a cult and began using and abusing the people he used to help. Remember the compound in Tehachapi. Good man.
Cesar Chávez was against illegal immigration.
What about sexual predator way. Oscar Rios ??? 244 years ago vs 3 years ago. how fast they forget.
WTF? This is news?
As our beloved president would say: ‘Meh”
I am hopeful the commission will consider my compromise proposal that i have described, in detail, in a letter recently to the Pajaronian. It has the blessing of city council member Paco Estrada.
This requirement is not based on indoctination, but EDUCATION. We live in a mutiethnic, mulitcultural world. The most commonly spoken world languages on our planet are: Mandarin, Spanish and English. this is fact. in order to educate young people and show them that being different is not something hated, we need to educate the young that despite their skin color, hair texture, religion, food preference, sexual orientation , place of birth and first language they have MUCH more in common as human beings than difeerences. thank you, PVUSD.
Trump will not recognize that. A new POTUS will.
Blame Tweaker George Floyd for dying- what a scumbag, (so was the killer) he started all this b.s. about white supremacy and white b.s…
On a different subject if it bothers Jessica Carrasco and Stevan Trujillo so much why don’t they pledge to pay for the move and the plaque.
In the future don’t waste taxpayer money soliciting opinions if you are not going to respect the results. What a sham! As for the “Digital Divide”. how many folks have smart phones to take the surveys or family members and PVUSD students in the household with laptops? If people were too indifferent or lazy to take the survey why worry about them. As the saying goes “If you don’t vote, don’t complain”.
Steve Hussain Trujillo might get the victory but if he loses he’s blaming Russia.
Can’t help wondering how this will turn out,
Good going Steve. Now you can use your skills to make Cabrillo better. Congrats!!
oy.
““Cabrillo was a horrific, evil despot,” And, BTW, so was Rafael Trujillo “el Jefe” of the Dominican Republic.
NOT TO MENTION, the thousands of Spanish conquistadors named Trujillo who were murderous invaders, raping and pillaging and such..
I think you should change your name to ‘Trumpdump’ to get absolution.
I know how you won, you scoundrel – you and Poopoo gathered your ne’er-do-well pals (the misfits, malcontents, cyclops, losers, welfare queens, homeless, homosensuals and other dregs of society) and somehow convinced them to get out the vote. Maybe you paid them?
Dang the SOB did it. Now we get to criticize his tantrums!
As I went from door to door, I urged people to vote EVEN IF they were not voting for me. I am so proud of my county ! they dramatically showed this election mattered. bless all of you who voted; our democracy is stronger because of YOU.
beautiful and so long overdue. thank you again, Kathleen Croscetti .
Thanks Steve, and Congratulations yourself!
ACTUALLY, I served on the Santa Cruz city school district board from 2010 to 2014. Todd got that wrong , but he got all the rest of my story correct. I lived in Capitola at the time I served on the Santa Cruz city schools board of trustees. .
I appreciate the fact that I was included in the story.
I intended to upset the status quo. it needs to be upset.
I know that i have sparked some strong reactions among conservatives in this community.
thank you. that is just what I wanted to do. If I made you think about your long held presumptions about George Washington and Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo, all the better.
best wishes to all my supporters . it was a pleasure to meet you at your front doors.
I walked so much i lost 10 pounds during the campaign. and I have never been healthier or felt better.
and it looks like we may finally be done with Trumpdump.
gorgeous tree. we need many more to be planted in Watsonville and all over CA. trees breathe out oxygen, breathe in CO2, provide bird and wildlife habitat and COOL the temperature of whatever location they are in. thank you to Auto Care towing for your work.
want to do our planet a favor ? BUY A LIVING TREE AND PLANT IT IN YOUR YARD AFTER THE HOLIDAYS. I do that every year. I donate my tree to whomever will plant it in their ground.
I look forward to my friend Jimmy Dutra rejoining the city council. I am pleased you will lead us through the next year. As always, I will be attending city council meetings and speaking to you and the council during public comment time. I will propose ideas and express opinions. I hope others will do the same. Good work, Jimmy !
Meanwhile, retards in Watsonville are more concerned about spending money that the city does not have on moving a bust rather than helping people make rent..
All good news. Rethuglicans will have to wait another 2 years to promote their agenda of big tax breaks for the wealthy, abandoning health care for millions, punishing the post office, ignoring global climate change and making sure the “JUST US ” system of the judiciary remains in total control.
Congrats on your win Steve.
thank you, Poobah. i appreciate your honesty with me when I have posted here with view points that strongly differed from yours. i hope you will continue to be candid with your comments no matter who posts here.
I want to see you do well in your new position.
I know our new mayor feels the same way I do. less junk food, more healthy choices. the grand opening of Staff of Life early next year will be the start of what I hope is a broadening of cuisine choices in Watsonville .
yes, it is unfortunate that the Boardwalk needs to charge admission, but these are extraordinary times. and while I don’t like Seaside company policy when it comes to their land uses in Watsonville, I want the Boardwalk to succeed. It provides income to our county and is a unique cultural and historical landmark that MUST remain in business.
Really? That piece of crap car was carjacked? Lol sounds like an insurance scam to me. Homeboy couldn’t afford to make payments.
LOL! Still, it looks like it was a Honda.
Let us pray for Joe Biden’s well-being
Great work by officers. Three for the price of one.
Its only 25mph in there…
I urge residents to show up for this meeting. Affordable housing is a HUGE issue in Watsonville. This is so important coming so close to Thanksgiving.
thank you WPD. We cannot tolerate this intimidation from anyone.
tragic. my condolences to the Becerra family for their loss.
Get over yourself, pal. Or are you gearing up for another city council run?
This forums suck ever since Trujillo blocked me. His responses were soo goofy and he was the only whacko Rut would argue.
Prop 15 is not yet decided. Prop 21 has been defeated. Prop 19 has apparently passed. All of them affect available affordable housing for Californians.
Now that Joe Biden is president elect, Pastor Rene, perhaps we can all come together to support his presidency in resolving our many crises that we face .
Did you win Steve? I knew you were leading but haven’t seen where you won.
yes, I won with about 62% of the vote. talking with voters , door to door, and asking for their vote in person paid off. i met thousands of voters and enjoyed it very much.
China rigged it, back for the U.S to be China’s B#@%h and btw only thing creepy joe is uniting is these crazy demoRats.
Many great races with Owster, not even close to enough. In shock. No words.
Love you brother. GODSPEED!
ignore the nonsense below. the truth is: trump did everything he could to turn our nation into dictatorship run by his decree. and the sad part is, too many Rethuglicans , who neither care about nor know the Constitution, were willing to let him .
the nation is saved. trump will disappear , and the historians will view him as being part of the GOP effort to use the electoral college to thwart the popular vote.
Kristen, we know the truth. Biden won.
Cool story bro-
I’ll just pay more taxes, and pay more for my healthcare, pay for abortions, and I’ll stilll have a job tomorrow. 🙂 I’ll be poor and Biden will still be a politician.
I doubt these Lations know that creepy joe was part of a administration that deported more illegals then any president ever & gave Mexico high powered assault rifles to the Cartels(operation fast & furious) that slaughtered thousands of people.
Just out of curiosity, I plan to go over to the plaza and see what an $18,000 trash receptacle looks like after it’s completed.
“Render to Caesar what is Caesar’s, etc.”
What is the salary for a Trustee on the Cabrillo College Governing Board?
Or is it a volunteer’s position?
There is no salary for Board positions.
that is correct. I did not run for my position because I wanted financial gain. I ran because Cabrillo needs new leadership. I look forward to working with Felipe. I also did not receive a salary from the Santa Cruz city school district board of trustees when I served there from 2010 t0 2014. I believe in pro bono service to the community, and have all my life. that will continue.
This is a tough one. Fully support both ideas, however, I don’t think a restaurant will survive in this space and a “boutique” hotel is also a bad idea. I don’t foresee people wanting to stay or eat in that area, which is subject to a lot of homeless traffic.
Agreed….tear it down and add parking to City hall with a small art piece/plaza at the corner. That parcel or building as is will never make money.
AVOID PEOPLE! Why is this so hard to understand?
The Pajaro Valley arts council should take over the building. we have a major artists colony in Watsonville that needs a hub to nurture their efforts. this building is ideal. it is a gem of architecture that does not merit “tearing it down”.
congratulations, Maria. It was good meeting you while we were both campaigning on cherry blossom court last month. best wishes.
we will manage to cope with this, but the vaccine for Covid 19 is something we all anticipate with enthusiasm.
God bless Donald Trump and his HUD department for this generosity.
What’s with the political crap you’re peddling today, Tarmo? I liked you better when you were (apolitically) pedaling your plump butt ‘about town’.
“Free at last, free at last. Great God almighty we is free at last!”
The heroic people of our Filipino community are who should be represented in the city plaza, Watsonville Brillante project and the public library, not George Washington. GW can be moved to city hall. thanks to the Recio family for the Tobera project, a true gift to the city of Watsonville.
When you’re through with your social engineering, can we Anglos have at least a closet at Cabrillo-Watsonville for the growers who created this vital community?
you are correct, Tarmo, it is an attempted coup. Fortunately, another Rethuglican US senator, Lankford, from Oklahoma has stepped forward to provide President elect Biden the national security briefings to which he is entitled.
Y’know, Steve, if Joe has his wits about him he’ll go down to the border with a pickax, shouting “take down that wall!”
these work in cities across CA and the nation. they slow traffic and cut down on noise. they improve pedestrian safety in those areas they are built. thank you to city public works dept. for promoting these two projects. LONG OVERDUE.
Steve, weren’t those bad Torres boys in your class before you got fired? Didn’t you have a chance to point them in the right direction? Or is it in their DNA – something that can’t be scrubbed by interacting with Anglos?
How the heck they get it started? Can’t drive…so we know the level of sophistication.
You and your team did a fantastic job Gail and we appreciate it.
yes, they did. thank you Gail. you are the best !!
We will be sorry to see you go, but Fred Keely’s suggestion is a good one. thank you for your devoted service , Gail.
Not a whole lot about the Rail Trail and a whole lot of politics instead. Time and a place for that, but when you hijack an article to spout your political views instead of giving the information that the title of the article implies. How about you try again and this time stick to your topic.
Now, back to today: This would never have been an issue without the rabble rousing of Steve Trujillo. Steve is a gaping, festering wound – so much anti-Americanism, so much anger at the hetero-anglo families.
I’m not saying he doesn’t have a gripe: he has one eye, a boyfriend who had a stroke, he was fired from his last teaching job for curious reasons, and his HOA thinks he’s a horse’s patoot.
I’d be cranky too.
Once the vaccine is here-
There will be the vaccinated and non vacccinated.
I assume one will have to have proof of vaccination to enter stores, schools or even show up at work.
A picture ID showing vaccination proof? A micro chip implantation? what?
Submit to vaccination or what?
I think a lot of people are not “enthusiastic” about running out and getting a questionable vaccination, that may or may not be safe….Just like so many are skeptical about the “numbers” game broadcast 24/7.
Is this a ‘right’ vs ‘left’ thing? I’m a conservative (WHA?), but I think Newsom is doing the right thing. if fact the ‘righter’ thing would be to confine everyone to their home – especially the graffito banditos, till the last bug/thug is history. Who can disagree with that?
Tarmo Hannula has done this community an extremely important service in reporting and writing this critically important and timely story. Making excellent use of the local expertise of Gail Pellerin — whose professionalism and integrity have been widely recognized and appreciated locally for more than 27 years — Tarmo’s article counters dangerous disinformation in the public sphere that threatens public trust in our democratic system, and the story does so at the precise moment that this country’s citizens most need to hear it. Honestly, I can’t think of a story that needs to be told more urgently and widely than this one right now!
Thank you Gail for your long and faithful service!
And thank you Tarmo for recognizing the importance of this story and telling it well!
If they want to continue living in a sweet and sleepy little agricultural Mexican village like ours, this book may be of use. If however, they want to go out in the cold hard world and compete with strivers they’d be better off minding their ABCs (but that must be in Pozo’s pending English-language version.)
thank you, Juan Carlos, for your new book. i am hopeful it will become standard reading material for teachers in the PVUSD.
He’s a spanish-speaking teacher teaching spanish-speaking students the spanish language. What’s wrong with this picture? (In an English-speaking America?)
take the right to drive away for 10 years like they do in Scandinavia.
the 4 nations of Scandinavia require the first offense of DUI that the driver give up the privilege of driving for ten years. this is what we need to do.
Tarmo, the lion was just lost looking for Gayle’s bakery. you know they have the best rabbit fritters in the area (just kidding),
Tarmo, serving up more soft news.
My favorite findings, rail transit with the rail trail already being built:
• Provides the Shortest Length of Time to Implement. The schedule for implementing passenger rail will require less time than the other transit corridor alternatives.
• Assures Continuous Corridor for Transit and Trail. The rail transit alternative assures continuous use of the SCBRL ROW for its intended purpose, which creates more certainty on preserving the corridor for all uses.
• Provides Faster Travel Times and Greater Travel Time Reliability. Passenger rail utilizing a dedicated guideway for the entire distance between Santa Cruz and Pajaro provides the fastest travel times and greatest level of travel time reliability.
• Reduces Auto Vehicle Miles Traveled and Greenhouse Gas Emissions. As transit ridership increases, auto vehicle miles traveled will decrease.
• Serves a High Percentage of Disadvantaged Populations in Santa Cruz County. The passenger rail system includes 91% of its rail station stops within census tracts identified as transportation disadvantaged populations in the county.
• Provides Regional Rail Network Compatibility. Passenger rail will provide the best regional network integration potential and compatibility with the California State Rail Plan and neighboring Monterey County regional rail project plans.
• Two-way travel is assured using three strategically located passing sidings and modern transit dispatch systems. Expect service every 20 to 30 minutes!
And, finally, it might look like this: http://www.santacruzstreetcar.org
On behalf of the citizens of Watsonville, I apologize.
an apology is in order to skaters in Watsonville. we need both skaters and bikers and city facilities for both groups. we need all the exercise facilities we can get. that is what a good community provides.
And art. Don’t forget the art..
I am proud of my friend, Jimmy Dutra, and my friend , John Laird . John Laird, with whom I share my middle name, first encouraged me to run for office in 2010. I was elected to the Santa Cruz city schools board of trustees. I look forward to being the first gay male trustee elected to south Santa Cruz county and north Monterey county, ever. for the Cabrillo board of trustees. We had a banner year in electing our LGBT candidates to office, nationally, statewide and locally. The Diversity will celebrate US at their annual GALA this Saturday.
With a new LGBT supporting POTUS and VPOTUS inaugurated next January 20, we hope to break down barriers of ignorance, hostility and religious superstition in the next four years.
And, yes, I still hope to get the get our county board of supervisors to approve an LGBT citizens’ commission ( for which we collected hundreds of signatures which i gave to supervisor Greg Caput last March) implemented in 2021.
time to wake up , Greg. get off your behind and look at political reality.
and the haters who posted beneath me can just keep on hating. it will do you no good.
I’d certainly be interested in hearing from our recently-vocal Christian and Buddhist parsons on this turn of events. Is homosexuality ok with you guys?
“John Laird, with whom I share my middle name” That’s nice, but why should it matter to us?
Can’t fix stupid! Probably trujillos student demolishing the ramps.
Nice coat
A thoroughly reasonable request to help stop the spread of Covid 19.
NOW, Gavin, you need to stay away from parties of 12 at the French Laundry in Napa. bad, Gavin, bad Gavin. go take your time out for the rest of the week.
congratulations, Oscar. now we can call you LANDSLIDE OSCAR. I support all the positions you have stated in this article. best wishes !
I am glad the voters of Santa Cruz county voted YES ON 15. you did the right thing.
I support the findings as well. we need rail transit in our county. the trail will facilitate bike and pedestrian traffic as well. what we don’t need are more cars on highway 1.
Our past is filled with racist acts by the WPD and local government. That cannot be denied. the police riots against the Filipino community in 1930 and the roundup of the Japanese community in 1942 ate just 2 examples of blatant racism.
Not to mention denial of constitutionally guaranteed rights, civil liberties and loss of income.
We need to REMEMBER these horrific acts so they do NOT happen again.
That is why I support a garden of hometown heroes in our plaza. That is why I support a Filipino student center at Cabrillo college( either campus ).
There is no room to accept white nationalism in our community. That day is past. With a new POTUS and first ever woman of color as VP, we should celebrate the end of government-established racist policies that help destroy our democracy.
You are a clown buddy! We already had a black president and nothin changed.
The two authors are incorrect as to the planning commission decision. The decision was a good one, and I ask the city council to implement it. The GW bust will look just fine in front of city hall or in our library. in front of it should be a plaque, in both English and Spanish, that explains the total GW. here is why:
1. yes, he bravely led our first continental army against the world’s strongest army at that time: Britain.
2. yes, he was our first elected POTUS. the voters were all white , landowning males. no one else was allowed to vote in 1792 or 1796.
3. He gave full license for the army to kill any indigenous people who stood in the way of government acquisition of their land or resources.
4. read his writings. He was an unapologetic racist and misogynist. He saw adult black men and women as child-like and inferior. He viewed women as being incapable of voting or taking part in government. he approved of the fact that only white males , 21 or older, who owned property should be able to vote.
5. the cherry tree story is pure mythology.
6. He fought hard to keep his plantation way of life so he would not have to work hard . he did free his slaves in his will, but he took full advantage of them , exploiting them during his lifetime.
Our plaza should be reserved for homegrown, hometown heroes, as i have proposed before in the Pajaronian. A contest should be held by the city for local artists to submit their candidates , in any artistic 3-d medium, that can be displayed in the city plaza, with a plaque that explains their contributions to our city.
The plaza belongs to our residents, not George Washington. He was neither saint nor Satan, but his place is elsewhere.
why am I qualified to say this ? 36 years in the public schools of CA teaching students US history, American government and a whole host of related subjects, in both Spanish and English
(now retired).
Ah, but elected and appointed individuals have to defer to the will of the people. If the people said keep the bust, well with out question that is what they do. There is no double standard. Look to the federal level and see how it is getting out of hand.
the city has the right to do with items on their land. the city can move the statue anywhere it pleases as long as it is on city land. and the people have spoken in this month’s election. the people spoke at the last parks commission meeting. and now it is up to the city council for the final decision.
as to the federal level, yes, you are right. trump took the constitution into his own hands and attempted to trash it. the voters said emphatically NO to him and his criminal conduct. Biden and Harris will have to bring the army corps of engineers to drain the DC trumpdump tidal basin and toss his swampthings into Mar a Lago.
the state supreme court will finally have to rule as to the state curfew mandated by Governor Newsome. they will rule sooner rather than later so law enforcement across the state are all on the same page.
Be careful, Steve, you’re frothing. Conspicuously absent from your screed is a defense for horn-dog Oscar Rios (maybe his disgrace happened when you were in the big house, ‘teaching’)
‘retired’ is not the same as ‘summarily fired’, mi amigeux.
Before that, didn’t you spend some hard time in prison, ‘teaching’ the perps?
Trying to dictate your Will and not what 1200 citizens of Watsonville want?

Steve is full of (C)DACA
why thank you thumb in nose ! I want as many DACA students as possible to enroll at Cabrillo as soon as humanly possible. enough of the trumpdump xenophobia and hate .
it is time to move the agenda forward. i want these students to have the opportunity to get a first class education and JOIN THE MIDDLE CLASS.
i can just hear all the trump voters yelling at me now. go right ahead. you LOST.
suck it up , butter cups !
“i want these students to have the opportunity to get a first class education” You are so full of horse manure. What you actually want are more voting democrats, regardless of the sub-standard education you’ve given them. Excellence? Not part of your lexicon.
Lovely family, the Espinozas, BTW
Do I detect a little tension between our pink and beige citizens?
All of these are reputable, honest organizations that do great work in the community. and I recommend one more: THE DIVERSITY CENTER OF SANTA CRUZ COUNTY.
once again, the haters have come out from their trump-infested swamp and, using only pseudonyms, made their ugly feelings known. transparency and sunlight are the best disinfectant . they cannot stand it.
Prop 15 was atrocious. Glad it failed.
Prop 19 was bullshit too, but it passed. Have a feeling it might get overturned though.
So Cabrillo’s (new name pending) artists have fallen on hard times? Well, luck is with us, we have a new addlepated trustee who thinks ‘art’ will solve Watsonville’s financial problems – so why not Cabrillo’s (new name still pending) stoonts’ financial problems?
Whatever Governor Newson is doing hasn’t worked! Shut your mouth, look at AZ they are doing good n said “f” the cdc and the bs that dr fauci believes from The Who- (who’s president- communist party member)
Just curious, what kind of work does Mr. Espinoza do? Is his mother still here?
Steve would say to sue The POTUS lol dumbass
“more than half of unhoused people in the U.S. live in California”
Well, my goodness, whoda thunk.
Wise up, liberal simpletons, throwing money at them only attracts more of them.
The statue was placed in 2001, why wait until 2020? Because it’s the In thing going on?
I’ve been saying that all the time… only because George Floyd.. Salgado-Sanchez just wants to sound cool.
Does she really think native Americans were welcoming George Washington and his pals with a Carne Asada? It was fight or die situation.
Haha carne asada & Caguama’s, does she think we believe her white power story✊, steve is prob going to suggest to put the other George instead. George Floyd their American hero.
For reals, though… no 40s and carne asada for George Washington, if he didn’t do what he had to do, he was gonna get jumped by the natives, common sense.
I’ve lived in Watsonville for Over 35 years I’ve yet to see any white supremacist groups. Seen Mexicans hating on Mexicans and a bunch of white folks trying to blend in with the Mexican folks.
STFU with the go back to Mexico b.s nobody believes that bullshit story. Also the white power b.s. stfu with those lies too, lying POS! If it was really true you would have that on video. Salgado-Chavez get a pinche trabajo!
Donations are good. Hard work is better.
Are those in the photograph, especially the rowdy one in front, DACAs, Dreamers, undocumentos or Democrats? I’d guess, all of the above.
Steve, any thoughts on this? You’re our resident anti-anglo, anti-American, anti-military, anti-patriot, anti-hetero, anti-excellence, anti-striving, Antifa kind of guy.
I have a hard time visualizing you standing at attention saluting these flags, even though they’re located on hallowed school district grounds.
(Hoorah!, btw)
on this day of thanksgiving, we need to remember those who are NOT so fortunate . we need to remember those who have suffered this year and lost love ones to Covid 19 or other causes. that includes ALL of our residents of all ethnicities, genders, religions, places of birth and skin colors.
thank you Reverend Robin, for your timely and thoughtful prayer.
Tarmo, crab is good ANYTIME. i am just glad there will be a crab season.
So this is Covid19 money, obviously one-time grant. What happens after the $10 mil runs out?
No need to remove or replace anything. If you don’t like it don’t look at it.
We need all the trees we can get. thank you. we need this project. these new oak trees will provide oxygen, bird habitat and cooling to the neighborhoods.
Time to stop attacking old George. With out him, and his brave men, we’d be part of the British Commonwealth and have to bow to a King.
Now let’s talk about all the horrible things done to humans by former rulers of Latin American countries including Mexico. They did evil also, murdering many.
George’s statue is not hurting anyone except the UCSC rabble rousers and their ilk.
The GW bust was commissioned by the family who also donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit the library and to make needed repairs at the Plaza. If the city reneges on their promise to keep the bust of GW in our Plaza, then they must also return every cent donated by the Alaga family. Fair is fair. 60% of residents wanted to keep bust where it is, and the city ignored the will of the residents and gave in to the minority rabble. SHAME ON THE CITY OF WATSONVILLE.
No more money for the library in my yearly donations. I will give my money to PP which helps people of all genders and races. It just shows thei City of Watsonville is as racist as those that accuse old George of racist crimes.
this should come as no surprise. when you have large numbers of people enclosed in a small space, the virus spreads.
Speaking of giving – and not receiving: Recently I discovered that the Food Stamp people discriminate against the homeless. Only cold foods are allowed, not hot foods.
Not many homeless carry microwaves in their backpacks, or even have electrical hookups. No, this program is designed for moms who take these ingredients home and cook them for their families. The homeless need not apply.
Haha so true.
Bet ya sun beers, Steve would want homeless peeps to have a solar powered microwave, he would also Mandate food stamp recipients to only shop at Staff of Life.
Dave, the program is made like that so that people don’t feed their kids fast food 3 times a day.
We know our Stevie hates drive-ins – with their carbon footprints and malnutrition. Can’t help wondering if his unclean hands weren’t instrumental if this foolishness.
Whats bizarre to me is the denial of Jury trials to juveniles unless they are tried as an adult.
Oy. Once again our thin blue line is the problem
They let Kemper out after he killed his own grand parents and then he started killing again. He also murdered his own mother. If a kid shows murderous behavior when young, it’s in his blood and he or she should never be released back into society.
do not wait. if you are a local non profit or business, APPLY NOW. this money wont last long. we need all of you to stay in business.
please support Cabrillo Virtual theater. this is an important part of the educational process of Cabrillo students who are enrolled in theater arts classes. they are working hard to reemerge after the worst pandemic in modern history. they deserve our support.
and 90 percent of programming on TV is crap.
Thank you Gail Pellerin for decades of service to Santa Cruz county residents. no words are sufficient enough to praise your steadfastness, your resolve and your perseverance. And the same is true of your WONDERFUL staff.
I appreciated the 3 times i ran for office and you were in charge of the process in Santa Cruz county. I thank you for counting the nearly 5000 votes I received in the election.
I look forward to serving the needs of Cabrillo community college for the next four years.
not a good idea, officers. save the nexr correctional officers’ party until you have had the Covid 19 vaccination.
it should be obvious that all food banks need an infusion of healthy, fresh food and cash.
Steve, you should get your head out of your analpore, wipe your eye and look around you: FREE FOOD IS PLENTIFUL AND AVAILABLE FOR THE ASKING!
“Food insecurity”
is such a deceitful and dishonest concept.
No one in our community needs to go hungry, all they’ve got to do is get off their duffs and ask!
Food stamps are readily available, the Food Bank is happy to deliver 60 pounds of groceries to your door every two weeks, their Food Pantry brings staple items (dried beans, tortillas, hot sauce) every two weeks, Meals on Wheels brings precooked frozen foods to your door, and the list goes on and on.
All you have to do is ask for help. (Todd, editorial whining is not enough, they’ve got to do this on their own..)
despite the hostility of a criminal POTUS, and collusion from a Rethuglican Senate who hates the fact that postal employees are unionized and have benefits, USPS has survived. God bless my wonderful postal carrier and all his colleagues !
Sadly, GW WAS a racist. he believed in the intellectual and moral superiority of the European born white male. Women were servants, to be kept out of government. I do not accept nor support such a delusional , morally bankrupt concept.
this nation is the most diverse in the world, no thanks to GW. His policies gave a blank check to the Continental Army to do whatever they preferred to eliminate the native population.
He was our first POTUS. He led the Continental Army against the British. all of that should be acknowledged to his credit. At the same time, he exuded a smug sense of his divine right to be leader.
Fortunately, he had read ancient Roman and Greek history. He admired Cincinnatus, the only known Roman Emperor who gave up his throne thousands of years ago. he returned to his farm.
GW followed his example , to his credit.
we cant even get trumpdump to admit he lost by 7 million votes. While GW will remain prominent in our history, trumpdump will end up in the dustbin of history, where he belongs.
Still, GW does not deserve sainthood, glorification or glossing over his worse qualities.
The Alaga family did donate this bust of GW . it must be maintained for posterity. but he belongs in front of city hall or in our library, not our town plaza. leave the plaza for hometown heroes. there are many .
great letter, Mercedes.
Geraldine represents the trump voters’ bigotry and ignorance of the history of CA. They are threatened by the fact that CA is dominated by people of color. Once a Republican stronghold, CA has changed its political views drastically since the 1990’s. For some , like her, it is too much to take.
Having taught both CA history and Mexican-American history, I am proud that CA was part of Mexico until September 9, 1850. The place names throughout CA refllect many Spanish words and indigenous first nations’ place names.
CA is electing many of us to office, as we just witnessed last month. And just today, a federal judge has ORDERED the trump administration to immediately restart the DACA program.
I am hopeful that Cabrillo community college will do everything in its power to admit as many DACA students as possible to Cabrillo in the spring semester.
I have news for Geraldine. I have no intention, as a gay Latino man, of grinning and bearing the hateful discrimination of the past. I intend to eliminate it. how is that done? THROUGH EDUCATION.
“THROUGH EDUCATION”. Couldn’t agree with you more, mi amigeaux.
Unfortunately the ‘education’ you’re peddling in public schools and prisons is frivolous pap – such as ‘mexican-american history’. That crap has no place in American ‘education’, maybe among MX-13 inmates it does, but not in our real world.
Why do you think vouchers and charter schools came about? Because bright parents of bright students knew they needed something better.
Esteban, you have a need to tell us how to educate our kids and live our lives. Maybe we need to see who you really are.
Just between thee and us, can you tell us why the principal at Rolling Hills summarily (w/ no legal, judicial or peer review) one day, perp-walked you out the door?
(I imagine your stoonts got a kick out of that!)
Tell us more Dave.
One of Stevio’s best buds,
Oscar Rios admitted to sexually harassing women and his name must be removed from Hiway 129 due to the fact that he’s an admitted sexual harasser of women, and not a hero.
That’s about all I know, Poo. Steve told us a little bit about it a couple of months ago. He alluded to the principal’s homo-phobia, Cyclops-phobia and NAMBLA-phobia. So I guess that’s where it stands, unless Steve wants to give us a complete picture.
(Nice to have you here on the side of the angels, btw)
I’m not on anyone’s side. I just don’t buy the racism and crap Stevie pushes. Like most locals, I also put in time in the fields and cannery for college tuition and know a thing or two. When I worked in the cannery, a Latino woman came up to me and asked me why I was taking a job away from Latino’s. I told her I needed a job just as much as she did. She saw that I worked as hard as she did and she and many others in the cannery became lifelong friends. 50 years later we’re still friends. Steve doesn’t understand old Watsonville. I had friends all over town and still do. Steve only sees Anglos and racism. He even attacked Manny Solano, whose family is great. His mom was a wonderful woman and his dad equally great. Yet Steve attacked him.
I dont know Oscar Rios. i have not met him. dont presume to tell me who my friends are. i dont do that to you.
Learning about the history of other countries is great,
Poo, you’re sending mixed messages.
Steve sends consistently biased messages: Like a chimp, he flings feces when he’s put in a corner.
When he’s ready to discuss the realities and science of race I’m here.
I like to learn about other countries and their history. What I’ve found is every single nationality and country has done evil to their own people by enslaving them, and doing awful things. I also study art and appreciate how creative our ancestors were.
I don’t use what I’ve learned to attack someone with crap done hundreds of years ago as old Steve (Gay Latino) does. He’s a sick man who has a lot of hate inside. I grew up here and went to school with kids of all skin colors and we’re lifelong friends. I live in a local neighborhood and my neighbors are my friends. They don’t see me as a white supremacist as Steve sees all white people. They don’t call me their white friend, We don’t use our skin color or nationality for self identification like Steve does. I think he has severe mental issues.
my mental health is better than yours. and you would never expose yourself to the transparency of a local poltical campaign for office. i just did, beating an 8 year incumbent . you and others on this thread said I had no chance of winning. HOW RIDICULOUS !
so i thank you and Dave and the Amargado and local boy for actually giving me strength to go on. perseverance pays off, Poobah. your lesson from me for today.
I don’t need to run for political office. I worked for the federal government for over 40 years leading my agency. I don’t need to “expose” myself to the public anymore. I already did it, Everything I did was transparent and I brought in more women and minorities for our agency than you’ll ever know. I still consult for the feds. I don’t need to win anything. I have nothing to prove. It seems you do and I hope you can get along with the others on the board. You know they aren’t going to change the name of Cabrillo College no matter how much you whine like Trump does.
Mercedes, you seem to be addressing ‘white privilege’. If such a thing exists, how did whites earn it? And why should they give it up? ‘Its’ what made the Pajaro Valley the success it has become. Be happy your relatives were given a chance to participate.
K Mart has White privilege on sale for 99 cents on thirsty Thursday. Get it before they run out.
I remember her. She was a beautiful young woman.
Thank you for your service as mayor. We appreciate it.
Isn’t Geraldine Ridgeway the spouse of now retired WPD Officer Ridgeway?? Strictest cop on the department.
As far as Mercedes STFU!! We can’t even get our Latinos to Unite. The ones that lived here a bit don’t like the immigrants and are shooting each other left and right.
Estevana STFU with the education b.a. a whole chunk of kids know more history of Mickey Mouse than they know about any history. This is in fact that there’s clowns like you teaching your liberal bull sh*t opinion.
Tarmo Hannula, I’m so glad you are no longer talking about that expensive over priced store Staff of Life. A great majority of Watsonville residents could care less about this expensive overpriced store.
Please explain to me how is having a curfew at 10pm going to stop the spread. This is ridiculous! Newson needs to be fired and thrown in jail for violating the constitution!
Hope they throw this guy with the blacks. That way he gets his ass beat everyday.
I can’t see any white supremacy in Watsonville. We’ve had many Latino mayors, councilmembers, police, firemen, teachers, garbage collectors etc.
Where do I find white supremacy? I as an Anglo am in the minority here. I haven’t seen it here at all. I went to school here with kids of all races and nationalities and they’re all still my friends. They can’t see it either. None of us feel more supreme than the others. I think Mercedes needs a different mule to ride. How about complaining about the quality of tamales sold in Watsonville or why so may people shoot off their guns on New Year which endangers all of us. I think Mercedes and her ilk want to destroy everything the pioneers did for Watsonville or California, if they were Anglo. Attacking old George Washington is nuts.
Some people just want to wipe out anything good done in our country if an Anglo did it.
Steve has some mental issues and sees a bogyman behind every door wanting to pounce on him because,(in his own words), he’s a gay Latino man who feels hurt because he claims he was discriminated against.
He Steve, if you want to talk about discrimination, talk to women who’ve had more discrimination and continue to have it aimed at them.
the fact that you want Mercedes to ride a mule says a great deal about how you see women. her letter was absolutely correct. your nasty remarks about her “ilk” are particulary revealing. did you help us get Kamala Harris get elected VP ? I did. i went door to door with my campaign and urged voters to break the glass ceiling. they did.
GW committed genocide. historical fact. so did most of his successors, especially Andrew Jackson. Jackson murdered thousands of Cherokees by forcing them to march from Florida to Oklahoma in MID WINTER. why ? like Ponce de Leon, he thought there was gold in Florida. Not until POTUS Calvin Coolidge in 1925 did indigenous people become citizens of the USA. Old GW deserves to seen in a light that reflects who he was, not how you wish he was. read up on old GW and get some reality into your education. you seriously need it. so does Geraldine. maybe the two of you can form a book club .
i fought against LGBT discrimination in Pajaro Village and at Rolling Hills Middle School.
i did not win at RHMS, but WON years later in Pajaro Village. it is well documented in the Pajaronian. sorry you chose not to read it. your loss.
the movement of the GW statue is not about trying to wipe out Anglo good deeds. it focuses on JUST GW, no one else. and moving his statue is not destroying it. nor does it imply that Anglo people have not contributed greatly to Watsonville. that is what my proposal to create a garden of hometown heroes in the city plaza is all about. again, i have written about it here extensively. the fact that you did not read it is not my fault. I pointed out in my letter to the Pajronian a variety of people, of all colors and nationalities , who qualify as hometown heroes. their stories and visages would make a great addition to our plaza. again, you did not read it. too bad.
I am sure that if you want to complain about the quality of tamales in Watsonville, our new gay mayor ( and my friend ) Jimmy Dutra will give you 3 minutes at public speaking time to address this issue. do you have a proposal ? I do. how about a tamale tasting event in the city plaza in NEXT December ?
and lastly, Poobah, i did not know you were a psychologist. you never mentioned it. Having received an MA in counseling, and a Pupil Personnel services credential in counseling from San Jose State University in 1989, I can only laugh at your diagnosis of me. the voters in district 7 overwhelmingly disagreed with you. by 62%!!!
i take the oath of office tonight.
I really feel sorry for you. It seems you just can’t enjoy life without seeing discrimination behind every single person. We get it that you feel aggrieved due to your gayness and being a “Latino” but no one really gives a *uck.
You are a whiner. It’s no wonder that no one likes you.
my neighbors in Pajaro Village like me. i am still receiving well wishes from them. they brought food , flowers and cards when I won. and as far as seeing discrimination behind everyone, i see an opportunity to make Watsonville a greater place to live than it already is.
no one gives a “uck ? that is not what I encountered door to door during the campaign. YOU dont give an “uck. I do.
at the risk of sounding like the play / movie EVITA , i will use different lyrics for the first 4 lines of the song:
DONT CRY FOR ME , DEAREST POOBAH !
I NEVER MEANT TO HURT YOU.
ALL THROUGH MY CAMPAIGN, I MET GREAT VOTERS.
I ‘LL KEEP MY PROMISE, I’LL SERVE THE PEOPLE .
Did the HOA ‘like’ you the second time? You were a flash in the pan, much like this last election. When you went up for re-election they escorted you out of town on a rail. The folks at Cabrillo are already warming up the tar and plucking the chickens.
Beware of the oleander cookies Steve.
Actually I did work for Kamala when she first ran for AG of Calif and was personally invited by her to attend her inauguration which I did in Sacramento with some pretty great people. You think all Anglos are racist. You haven’t a clue. Perhaps it’s because you have a low grade education unlike some of us who attended better colleges. Poor little Estevan. Why were you booted from RHS?? Did you get too familiar with the kids??? Inquiring minds want to know.
Kamala-toes is certainly an attractive lady, just ask Willy and his horn-dog cohorts. She does worry me though, especially if Joe croaks. Then she will let the Steve-taught criminals out of the pokey. This does not bode well for America.
When Kamala went out with Willie, he was legally separated from his wife and therefore, able to date. It was not adultery. I like her. As for releasing people from prison, I think all non violent criminals should be released. We should only incarcerate violent criminals and lock them up forever. We should also create good drug rehabs to help people get off drugs and live a good life.
Australia does an outstanding job in their prisons and have a very low recidivism rate. The US has made prisons (private) a lucrative industry which is disgusting.
“Went out with” I like that, is it the same as plugging every one of her openings? The lady has no moral compass.
And so, again, we part ways
Don’t get foul. It’s beneath you.
I hope Joe lives a long time. I haven’t agreed with everything she’s done as AG, but let’s give her a chance.
Obviously reading comprehension was a class you failed.
i join others in praying for the full reoovery of the 43 in our county’s hospitals.
Thank you Geraldine, for an excellent letter. I concur. Unfortunately some people in Watsonville want to wipe out all that has been done by our ancestors and attack them as racist. As a person who was born and grew up in Watsonville and has friendships with people of all races and skin colors who also grew up in Watsonville, we cherish our time growing up and living here and our friendships are as strong as ever.. We share so much and never felt racism toward anyone.
The only racism I’ve seen or felt is the kind that the Steve Trujillo is spreading around. His hate for non Latino’s is sickening. He’s the one spreading hate and attacks on Anglos for events that took place hundreds of years ago. Steve Trujillo wants to wipe out or insult every accomplishment by generations past if they aren’t Latino. He even attacks our first President George Washington. He is truly a sick individual, seeing discrimination behind every person who isn’t Latino or gay. What a pity.
“the new State framework is rife with inexplicable inconsistencies of logic”- Sam Mateo Health Officer. The rare honesty from a health “official” is a breath of fresh air.
I work at a local school where the official wanted to close our rare F2F class because a janitor, who tested positive, had been in the other parts of the building 2 weeks prior- It made no sense, but they wouldn’t listen to logic….
Bless them! What an upbeat story,Todd.
Not the whiny woe-is-me we get from the one-term trustee.
great meeting. thank you to Trina and Felipe for your service to Watsonville. Thank you to Mayor Garcia for serving in what has to have been a HORRIBLE year. And welcome back to my dear friend, Jimmy Dutra , as mayor.
2021 will be a better year.
speaking as an individual, not as a rep of any governmental body, I thank Bruce McPherson for his resolution. he is absolutely correct. PGE has been a huge disappointment on so many levels.
I doubt that will happen.
YOU GO, SEDRICK ! we support you . do us proud.
I look forward to the results.
Should be interesting.
just as a statement from an observer…Southland Ice would be Christmas proud. Thank you in the spirit of the season.
wonderful way to celebrate the Filipino community.
did the reindeer get the week off ?
Recall Grease Gavin, what a hypocrite P.O.S. Shutting down all business and having all these rules, yet, he is partying in Napa wineries with all of his chorizos.
speaking as an individual resident, and not as a rep for any governmental body, I have been picking up trash in Atri Park and along the Salisipuedes creek levee for more than 5 years. I have NEVER encountered a syringe. I believe this is, in part, due to the Harm Reduction Coalition of Santa Cruz county.
I’ve seen them on the beaches in Santa Cruz, along River Street and Pacific Avenue. Not to mention other parks in the Santa Cruz area. Just because you personally haven’t found them in one park by your home, don’t discount what others have found to be a serious issue.
Perhaps if there were containers placed where used needles are found so the addicts can dump their used needles, you wouldn’t find them. I support the needle exchange.
Poo, I’ve got to ask, are those new syringes cocked and loaded?
(If they’re empty I’m OK with it.)
I’m not promoting drug use, however providing new needles has helped the spread of HIV and Hep C which druggies can spread to others. It’s very contagious. They’re brand new and empty. I’d rather see more drug rehab for those that want it than spending millions changing name of Cabrillo College. We only have one rehab in Watsonville and that’s not nearly enough.
Did anyone have a chance to attend his inauguration at Cabrillo last week? Was he docile, or was he a shit disturber, right out of the chute?
(Do you know of any place I can see the minutes of these meetings?)
Yes, there are containers, but its just easier for the syringes to be tossed onto the ground. If you are truly a supporter, then I would assume that you are out cleaning up the syringes that are not properly disposed of.
Excellent point, Sofia. If an addict is in the agony of needing a fix, and after she has satisfied that need, in her blissful state is she going to know the protocols of where to put the old one?
Now that you’re part of the campus clique, will you be picking up sharps and other trash around the campus?
Scumbag.
the trail will be a wonderful addition to our transportation system and boost athletic tourism.
Talk to people that want to take their kids to parks or the beach, and you’ll get stories of them finding discarded syringes. People are just fed up with the junkies around town and everything that goes with them, degrading our town and parks. Knowing a few users, being responsible citizens and proper disposal of their needles is not high on their to-do lists….
True ’nuff. They’re trailer trash without the trailers. NOT a pretty sight.
Bless them all: Pink and brown.
happy birthday, Gerry. thank you for being a good role model.
so very sad.
There was another man hit on Jan 19 2021 on Airport Blvd at about 6:30pm.
He laid motionless in the street. There is nothing online about what happened or who it was. I have been concerned, but no info on it reported by any media outlets. My daughter who was coming home, witnessed the man laying in the street. I just wonder why no one covered the story online.
farmworkers are ESSENTIAL WORKERS. yet, they are treated as expendable workers. they are the last to receive good health care, sick leave, child care, and any kind of paycheck protection plan, or even testing for Covid 19.
this story should come as no surprise to anyone. but it is nonetheless disgusting and outrageous.
speaking for myself only, not as a rep for any governmental body, I call upon the city council of Watsonville and Santa Cruz county board of supervisors to step up their efforts to care for our farmworkers.
On a different note, but related to the scum-on-drugs article, I must admit that Steve and Tony are on to something.
Has anybody else noticed that the down-and-outers are mostly anglo? Makes me blush.
btw, Why does slippery Steve start every complaint with “speaking for myself only, not as a rep for any governmental body” Should we care? Does it matter?
Saw them working at Highway 1 and Ocean Street extension.
KamalaToes will spring him January 21st.
Now you’re being stupid. Obviously you don’t respect women.
Obviously you didn’t understand my comment. It wasn’t about women, it was about a particular wrong-headed woman in a position of power.
You and KamalaToes are ‘close’, but even in your adoration you must know she’s flawed and not good for America.
This new loose-cannon persona of yours is unbecoming. I liked you better when you were a docile old lady.
You’re such a stupid man. PS I never indicated what gender I am so take your old woman comments and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine, okole face.
Kam said during the debate that she wanted to legalize prostitution. I think that would increase the human trafficking problem. I would say she has no respect for women.
Prostitution is already legal in some counties in Nevada. When I went to Vice Investigation School in Santa Clara County, the instructors of the prostitution portion of the class told us that many of the girls on the street also worked as hookers in CA and elsewhere. We soon learned that they were right.
if you think this only happens elsewhere, think again. this is the modern version of slavery. it has no place in society. those men who do this need to be locked up and reeducated. they are sick human beings.
Does this not happen in your odd neck of the woods? (Think, NAMBLA. No coercian or money involved there, bunky?)
The very first pimp my partner and I sent to Soledad was pimping a 14-year old white girl. the second was pimping a 16-year old black girl. The black girl had been tortured by having cigarettes put out on her skin and being beaten with a wire coat hanger, which produces a particular type of diamond-shaped wound.
more bad news for the NRA. 17 weapons and huge amounts of ammo locked up. the second amendment DOES NOT give you the right to hoard weapons and ammo. thank you Santa Cruz county sheriffs’ office.
Apparently you have trouble reading. The arrest was for being a felon in possession of firearms, which is both a federal felony and a felony in the People’s Republic of California. You are free to collect all the weapons you wish as long as you do it legally and the weapons themselves are legal. I just know that this frightens you no end. Furthermore, this has nothing to do with the National Rifle Association, Stevie. You need to go through the third grade again. In addition, in CA, the possession of suppressors and the manufacture of same are both illegal, except for two organizations, one being the police and the other being the military. Grow up, sonny.
Steve You are the biggest pendejo in Watsonville. The 2nd amendment DOES NOT set “limits” in weapons and ammo.
Calif requires anyone purchasing ammo to have a background check. I don’t believe it limits how many guns someone can own as long as they aren’t felons, mentally ill or have domestic violence background.
I call this article bull shit!
Yes I agree they are essential, but as a farm worker.. do i go to work because I’m afraid of getting fired? Or do I go to work because if I don’t work I don’t eat? Obviously because if I don’t go to work I won’t get paid!
Last time I checked, California was ran by Democrats what have they done for us the farm workers? Haven’t done crap but ruin our state.
I firmly believe that there are very few things more fun than arresting and convicting a pimp. My partner and I, working together and separately, convicted several. Each one went to prison. My favorites were the ones who were pimping young girls. Pimping is rampant throughout the United States.
Sounds like you were a cop. Did you arrest all the johns for buying women’s favors? I bet you were on the take.
Whoa, we’ve got a cranky old woman in our midst – disrespecting our thin blue line.
It looks to me like your screen name is an accurate description of your intellectual level. If you were to bet that way, sonny, you’d lose. Actually, we ran decoys directed at the tricks (the only place I’ve ever seen the word “John” has been poor police procedural novels.) and against the hookers, but found that not to be very effective, because the pimps don’t really care that much about what happens to their ladies. They’re just a source of money and not much more. They’re bought and sold like cheap cars. But it does sound to me like you had some run ins with the police and you lost. Did the big bad copper piss in your cornflakes, bunkie?
Do ya feel better now? PS Most cops are as corrupt as those they arrest and no I’ve never been arrested or had a run in with any pig. So GFY.
What a bunch of nazis!
all should lose their CA DL for 10 years, just as they do in Scandinavia.
This is a time I hardily agree with you!
Jail time wouldn’t be bad either…
Count me in for getting the vaccine as soon as my doctor notifies me it’s ready.
What would Florence Nightingale say?
I support our nurses. they are doing the right thing by informing the public.
wonderful news for the quality of our local environment. yes, Watsonville is for the birds. that is why we are named the Pajaro (bird) valley. a good news arrticle with an adorable photo of this little beauty.
Are you saying this as an ordinary citizen, or as an elected official?
good, shoes. at first glance i thought they were presented with auto vans. not a good idea.
this is shocking. at most, we may have 55 thousand people. 77 is quite a few. that would be more than one a week. while we are not a third world nation, this high number of homeless deaths is not a sign of good times in our nation. it is a sign of failure. a new POTUS wont instantly resolve this issue, but it will help.
remember, WPD or the sherfiff are the lucky ones who have to recover the dead bodies and report them. not a pleasant task at any time of year.
this driver needs to drive NO MORE. and spend life in prison. period.
Tarmo, I’m going to take a SWAG: You’re not a GOPer.
I also invite you to tell me any president in your lifetime who didn’t pardon his cronies on the way out?
Steve, you’re an elected official and a friend of Watsonville’s marginalized citizens. I’m surprised you’ve not suggested some cure for our Veteran’s difficulties.
Forgive me, Steve, you must know I was kidding. Veterans, America, success, capitalism, patriotism – those things just don’t resonate with you.
speaking as an individual, not representing any governmental body:
in keeping with his schizoid personality, the Dems proposed this amount months ago and of course, Trump rejected it.
all of you who voted for this monster should beg forgiveness for your foolishness.
this man will be recorded as historians at the very bottom of our presidents. the last four years will be given a nickname that suits this terrible experiment in careless voting.
may God have mercy on us, every one.
Stevie, Stevie, Stevie. You are such a back-biting scoundrel. Would you prefer receiving $600 relief, or $2000?
$600 from Pelosi is ok, but $2000 from our POTUS isn’t? You’ve got that head wedged again – too much hate and racism clouds your teeny brain.
Steve and his CNN talk, this is what happens when all you watch for news is CNN, it makes you sound Ridiculous.
i am not ridiculous. trump is. and he is leaving jan. 20. and you cant stop it. and CNN is much too smart for you, clearly.
Thank you Kaiser. Now Sutter should also donate a chunk to this fine organization, along with Granite Const, Granite Rock, and all the large businesses in our town. They have reaped success from us, and it’s time to give back in a large way.
Too late, Jimmy. Hate is always with us. N’est ce pas, Steve?
The members of Twin Lakes Church in Aptos ponied up close to half a million dollars…
Thank you Mayor Dutra. Can’t wait till January 20 for a new start for our country.
As though the firearm arrest was more impactful for the community than the drugs….
my main concern is that health requirements are met. food poisoning is real. strict hygiene must be maintained. a county health certificate of approval should be displayed prominently at the food truck. no exceptions. and inspections should be without warning , and strict.
i agree with honey bucket.
I would encourage everyone to look up Dr. Pierre Kory- His research group into repurposed drugs has found Ivermectin to be near miraculous in Covid prevention and rapid cure and greatly lessen death. He’s testified before the Senate twice- not some snake oil salesman.
Unfortunately, it’s very cheap, not like Remdesivir, which costs over $2000 dose.
lesson ? never leave a BBQ fire unattended. those responsible for the BBQ will now have to make arrangements to pay for the damage.
Thank you 7-11 for helping those that needed it. We need more of this in Watsonville. Nob Hill which over charges for their food along with Safeway, should also give away food to those in need. Nob Hill charges double what Grocery outlet does and makes a ton of money along with Safeway. Do the right thing and help out Watsonville!!
If current news articles are to be believed, Latinx’s – especially their families – gather in large crowds. Looks to me like a cultural phenomenon that can’t be stopped.
count me as one of those electeds who want all farmworkers to receive the Covid 19 vaccination. these people are ESSENTIAL workers. they are in the cold , wet weather picking food for us to eat. human dignity and compassion for these brave souls DEMANDS we protect them from COVID 19.
the vaccine must roll out more rapidly. the trumpdump administration has once again taken a golf holiday rather than getting the vaccine to millions of people.
It’s not his job to pass them out.
I look forward to the the completed mural.
I support our nurses. they know better than anyone how many ICU patients they can safely care for at one time.
thank you, METRO.
thank you , state legislature and Governor Newsome. these are great laws. many of them should have been implemented YEARS ago.
CA continues to be the most diverse and inclusive state in the nation. I am proud to be part of it with my election to the Cabrillo board of trustees in November.
Tarmo, i can state unequivocally that all CA state textbooks for US history for both 8th and 11th grades will include a single chapter just for 2000. and quite likely a separate chapter for the WORST US POTUS in our history, trumpdump.
I say this by experience of having taught US history to 8th and 12th graders for decades while I was employed as a teacher.
Cnn talk
no, personal history talk. ask any historian. my view will be verified.
thank you for this story. Yes, i can attest to the emergence of the LGBT community’s strength at the polls in November in our community with the election of John Laird as our new state senator, Jimmy Dutra as our new mayor, and myself as the new district 7 trustee for Cabrillo College.
it feels good to finally be accepted as equals in elected office.
this year has been filled with so many shocking events, many of them traumatic. the endless litany of lost friends in our community is painful.
we must continue to make Watsonville a great place to live, and ascribe to the highest goals that our departed ones wanted for us all.
we must work to end gun violence and seek out those who want nothing more than to use their guns to kill those with whom they disagree.
i am grateful for the effort by the WPD and the county sheriff to take weapons OFF the streets of Watsonville.
i support the break up of the NRA.
thank you , WPD. no loaded weapons, with the exception of law enforcement officers, in public in Watsonville.
Steve you are stupid!
How do we know if farm workers want the vaccine?
no one is better suited for this job. thanks Robert.
A newly minted criminal with a gun.
again, that can be changed. read my response above. and minting is for coins, not for people.
Pithy. Minting produces “bad pennies” also. To paraphrase, the roads of Santa Cruz County are “paved with good intentions”.
Will be in and out of juvey reasonably unscathed and out on the streets soon – which is OK because he’s a minor and at that age, you are allowed to make a mistake and straighten out your life. Consider it the luckiest chance you could hope for.
NOW – will his parents step up????? That’s the million dollar question. If they don’t take this and commit to guiding this obviously lost soul, he’s going to be another statistic and they’ll visit him in Soledad for their weekly visit, and after about 5-10 Xmas’s away, he can come move back into mom’s house on parole and start over. Rinse, repeat.
he is 19. he is not a minor. he has to face the charges as an adult. will the parents step up ? remains to be seen at the trial. in any event, he is still young enough to be diverted from his insane life style.
Affirmative action lives! More incentives for the wealthy and educated to move on.
So gov’ts tell everybody to stay put, and Metro is offering free rides to the masses.
Freedom loving people continue traveling and living their lives. Those afraid of getting a virus, or even a cold, should stay home and quarantine themselves.
More appointments made based on skin color, “diversity’, etc., rather than quality?….isn’t that discriminatory /racist??
I work in government/public sector and work with some unqualified people that can’t be removed/demoted because of management paralyzed with fear of being labeled/sued as practicing some kind of discrimination.
I’m with MLK on “content of character” …
You’ve been office for over 10 years and our districts roads are still in the same crappy condition. You take the money but don’t do the work. Aptos, and Santa Cruz country roads are fixed, but Watsonville still gets screwed. You Greg Caput are the worst representative we’ve ever had. Fix the roads first and then think about parks. I would prefer low income housing over a new park any day to help house the homeless.
I agree with Rebecca. this has been denied for CA for 170 years, when CA became a US state.
racism and elitism are what kept Latinos out of representing CA in the US Senate. Newsome has changed all that. thank you , governor. and thanks to all the various civil rights groups who pushed for this historic appointment. that includes LULAC, which I was an active member and President of the Salinas chapter , prior to 1998, when i lived there. I am a proud Californio, and i look forward to Padilla’s tenure in office.
Good! Get this piece of shit out of California and lock him up!
Newsolinni’s got to go!
no. trumpolini is going. Newsome is staying. Newsome actually cares for CA. trumpolini NEVER DID. and they have to collect 1.8 million VALID signatures in eight weeks. I will make sure that I do what I can, legally, to stop them.
Noosesome is the real fascist, dictator Steve Hussain Trujillo talks about, Gavin actually cares about what? Ruining California. Btw noosesome is related to old hag Nancy Pelotas so that tells you even more about him.
in the first place, my middle name is LAIRD, like our newly elected state senator for our district. in the second place, Newsome is the ONLY one who seems to understand that the pandemic is killing us. people like you , thumbs down, want to pretend , like trumpdump, that it is not a big deal and continue to deny the state efforts to contain it. really stupid ! Newsome is extending the rental eviction ban for another month, wants to give Californians who make less than 30k per year another $600 and is expanding the CA smaill business loan program to keep them in business.
and that “old hag” Pelosi just got reelected speaker for 2 more years. and she has more energy and courage than trumpdump or Moscow Mitch will EVER have.
and so what if Pelosi and Newsome are related? why is that important ?
and YOU dont define me. I WILL DO THAT, thumbs.
I believe in democracy. I practice it. i just proved it on November 3. and I beat a GOP incumbent of 8 years in a fair election with 62% of the vote.
you just bloviate flatulence.
Steve Hussain and his cnn talk, praising gavin you have no shame, noosesome broke his own lockdown rules already him and hag Nancy, Gavin won’t let you work, gather with family & friend’s, go to church but covid is so dangerous that he allows people to protest in groups that’s ok right.
Gavin is a great governor and will never be voted out by recall. Too many of us Californians like and support him. The anti vaxers and Trumpers are the ones who don’t like him. Look at your own face in the mirror.
Haha follow the herd you sheep.
Steve, this hurts me to say but I agree with you. I can’t think of anything our pretty boy has done wrong re the pandemic. In fact if this plague is to be stopped he should get much tougher.
Besides ruining the entire state by dictating “with executive orders”. Lockdowns don’t work. Compare California to Florida? Or Texas come on…
What would Hitler say? I’ll bet he’d say lockdowns work.
So Dave comparing prettty boy greasy Gavin to Hitler?
Estaban is so menso- that if Newson was a “R” then he would be so against it. He doesn’t see a person he just sees blue or red.
No, Amargado, I was just pointing out an extreme case, one where lockdowns worked. Hitler may have been a little ham-handed, but he certainly knew human nature. Don’t be acting like a “D”
Can’t think of what he had done wrong? You serious? You been watching cnn with steve lately seems like.
he is not in the league of trump, whose corruption never ends, treason never ends, selfishness never ends. and many news networks show this, not just CNN. but you have to be able to read, think , and reason. that leaves you out, doesnt it ?
I think I was pretty clear, TD – he seems to be doing the right thing with the Corona virus, considering the scientific knowledge at hand. I specifically wasn’t referring to his tax-and-spend orientation, or the French Laundry thingy or his diddling his best man’s (best friend’s) wife. No doubt he’s flawed, but I don’t think he’s asleep at the wheel re Covid 19. Our POTUS is of the opinion that Covid will go away on it’s own. Gav-Gav takes a more pro-active stance with which I agree. I think house arrest for everyone – till the last bug in gone – might be a good next step.
One step closer to getting lots of bikes (bicycles) off the streets and onto the ROW.
I’m sure Orangevale is very appreciative of the Santa Cruz County homeless industrial complex, and also the Harm Reduction group.
Mr. Padilla is a perfect example of the fact that of our Constitutional system of natural rights allows any American, no matter how humble the origin, to be able to apply himself individually through hard work and education in order to be able to become one of the most effective and influential members of our society. Kudos to Secretary Padilla
“God watches out for sailors and drunks”.
no, do not invoke God into this. this is a failure of our nation to deal with drunk driving. I will remind all of you: the 4 nations of Scandinavia take the privilege to drive away for the first DUI for 10 years. the second DUI results in permanent loss of the privilege to drive.
AND THERE IS NO RIGHT TO DRIVE. IT IS A PRIVILEGE BASED ON PERSONAL BEHAVIOR.
Your klazomania is showing. Anyway, you’ll have better luck bringing your reminder to God rather than the liquor lobby.
Pretty pristine county we have. Possibly attributable to the fact that most of the drunks here are living in tents and don’t own a car.
I am sure that a temporary cell in the jail will allow him to bathe , sleep and get some meals out of the cold. he will need to face his day in court.
YES, the homeless need to be consulted when these cleanups are scheduled. but at the same time, these cleanups must occur . they work to reduce rodents, insects, disease from fecal matter and garbage. not to mention reduce fire hazards. the 110 or so who live by the Pajaro River also need to consider living in city or county provided housing during the cold, wet weather .
WHAT?!?! You’re saying coming in contact with fecal matter can be hazardous to your health? Have you gay blades discussed this? Especially anal-to-oral. Ewww.
Dave, you have me on the floor rolling!
Thanks man- you made my day. P.s tell Estaban to unblock me…
I’m afraid I’m blocked too, so I have no contact with him. But I’m sure his colleagues tell him what’s going on*. Besides, as an egomaniac and an ‘elected official’ he has to keep his ear to the ground. And even his eye.
*PooPoo/Honey Bucket? You capice?
Esteban la them sleep in your backyard old man
Why hasn’t there been a article on RP on all the damage, buildings burnt down or innocent people killed by left wing extremists antifa or blm? Both groups supported by demorats, Stop being one sided RP.
this is our nation’s capital, thumbs down. big difference. a CVS being burned does not compare to our Capitol . and these white fascist thugs were treated with kid gloves by the police. if they had been black, brown, LGBT or were speaking another language other than English, they would have been shot.
there is a totally different standard for people of color who protest. this is why there is a Black LIVES matter movement.
and guess what ? some Republicans agree.
i called Jimmy Panetta at his office this afternoon. he was VERY upset. he was alone in his office and answered the phone himself. if you saw him on channel 8 news this evening, you know how pissed off he is.
the fact remains: TRUMP NEEDS TO RESIGN. IF YOU VOTED FOR THIS MONSTER, YOU NEED TO APOLOGIZE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.
Cool your beans here Estevan- no need to pull the race card here. This is uncalled for.
Black brown LGBT stop with that BS. Another one of your cnn rants, kids glove? 4 of them got killed.Who said cvs what about businesses owned by blacks and browns that were burnt down? Its always people like you pointing fingers at White people to start a race war just like cnn is doing. I could just imagine all the BS you spewing to uninformed individuals.
IT IS NOT BS. personal experience, and watching the news, which you clearly dont. the trumpdump era is marked by increased death by police violence against people of color and LGBT people. FBI statistics track it.
the race war is from trump , the proud boys, white nationalists , Qanon and the other wacko , psycho groups that support trumpdump. i dont have to point a finger . search the news to find out the truth. but you keep your thumbs in your ears, so you dont want to know the facts.
it is called cognitive dissonance.
YOU are the uninformed individual, along with all the trumpdumpers in our nation. he is a criminal. he needs to be removed from office. get a damn clue !
“Honey Bucket”? PooPoo, dat you?
I too deplore the riots in DC.
Too bad our politicians turned a blind eye to the weeks of destruction in Portland and Seattle.
I have acquaintances that lost their live’s endeavors while the police were told to stand down…..
this should have happened months ago. why the delay ?
Like everything else related to the government lately….oh, how slowly the wheels turn.
America and Americans seems to displease you, Tarmo. Slow news day in Finland?
Watsonville’s first murder of 2021. let us hope it is the last.
Coral and your dad, god bless you for that family-time wholesomeness. I’m sure you will treasure those times.
BTW, I just noticed you have different last names. In fact I’ve noticed that a lot these days. Does your Catholic church no longer have interest in marriage and its responsibilities?
(Meanwhile our Steve looks forward to a completed mural. Rome’s burning and he’s fiddling with himself.)
all good choices. thank you, Governor Newsome.
as in the nations of Scandinavia, Karen should lose her privilege to drive for 10 years.
Dave, telling you lockdowns don’t work.
Lol- Newsolini and this is why California is broke and you can’t balance a budget..
I support it. but 10 affordable units out of 50 is NOT enough. it should be at least half, or 25.
As I understand it, this debacle of a sailing class was instigated by the SC Yacht Club. The worst conditions for sailing consist of large swells and very little wind. Somebody should have known better.
Tony your job as a reporter is to report- nobody cares about your opinion. I wish you would of rote articles on antifa-blm- and all the chaos thy caused. You just can’t be one sided. Your job is to neutral and inform.
Most of the chaos caused at the BLM protests was done by the far right, proud boys, racists, Trumper’s and basic idiots like you as confirmed by the FBI. . Tony is a very good editor and we appreciate him.
So if we are playing this game- is it fair to say, that antifa started most chaos on this game?(capitol) If you study the timeline Trump has not even finished his speech when protestors infiltrated the White House. Is Tony just reporting what others are reporting? Fake news??
These Pendejos think Antifa and Blm have done nothing wrong. If they only knew.
Simon! Dude, seriously do you think that bunch of rednecks without guns or a plan entered the Capitol- “one the safest buildings in the world” that easy? Get out of here with those lies. Whoever believe this is a pendejo. I’m willing to bet it was a plan made by Putosi…
yes, we do.
You sound like steve hussain trujillo, you been watching to much cnn. You have no idea what you talking about. Just follow the herd.
And you sound like a racist hater with shit for brains.
Typical DemoRat answer Poo Bucket.
this calls into question the management of this organization. little kids should not be in high surf.
Thank you, Tony. well stated and on point. so glad you are the editor. praise the Pajaronian !
apparently the driver wanted some fresh cow to kill and skip a trip to Mickey D’s or some other junk food drive through.
all school personnel MUST get the Covid 19 vaccine before school opens. all students and staff must wear masks, over the age of 10. bleach and lysol must be available in every room. fresh air must be readily accessible. all people in the school MUST have temperature taken with temporal scanner daily.
washer and dryer need to be on every school site.
Wow- wow! Must and should are two different words. Last time I checked we were free to choose what to do with our bodies.
You are one ☝️ Idiot that has no clue what to say.
Thank you Tony. Let’s hope that the FBI and other law enforcement weed out all those that committed sedition from President to every single person who broke into our Congressional buildings, threatened our elected officials and did much damage to our sacred head of governing in DC. Well said and we appreciate it.
The guy in the upper right hand corner seems to be whistling. Dixie?
What else do we expect from a editor like this? One sided fool you are.
Tony can read, think and reason. you obviously cannot.
Yes he can if not he wouldn’t be an editor smart guy but that doesn’t mean he knows what he’s talking about. He’s part of the herd following the sheep. Like you
Wise up, Watsonvillagers, it’s time to kick some serious ass. This namby pamby BS you’re suggesting has never worked, never will. And yet we keep electing soft homosexuals when we need tough authoritarians.
Steve no comment?
Abrazos no Balazos- hugs not shootings?
I’ve lived on Rodriguez St south of Riverside DR for 20years and haven’t seen 1 single WPD on foot conducting any community policing. Neither has SCCSD patrol then Levi – Maybe that be a good start. Only time they come out here is to harass strawberry pickers for playing music too loud.
The local police are too fat to walk all day. Last night outside my house three cop cars were dealing with two young men walking around in the hood. Why does it take 3 cars? They woke up the whole neighborhood for nothing. Is it against the law to walk at night?
I don’t think anyone’s gender is at fault and your attack on gays isn’t appreciated. If you want to attack someone, attack the parents of the kids who are committing all the crimes in town.
In Trump’s America I can attack anyone I please. Hopefully in Biden’s America I will have that same right. (High on my hit-list will be his veep, the sleezebag who diddled her way to the top)
Under Biden’s- America will both be censored or banned from free speech.
Get a room, you two.
You are a disgusting pig.
It’s about time!
CLEARLY, Watsonville needs to invest in the community to divert angry young men FROM using guns and violence . that can involve the police, but it can also involve civillian counselors as well.
we should not defund any WPD officer positions, but we can, and should reallocate funds to do this.
And the parents? And the teachers? And the churches? Have they no role in stopping this chaos?
Blame people like Steve- they were probably his students…
Some parents are involved in gangs also and or don’t give a damn. They don’t call their kids on their behavior or are off doing drugs. Parents should be charged along with their minor kids if the kids get in trouble. The parents should be charged with child neglect. Ignorance is not a defense.
Getting kids involved in sports along with their families is one of the best things to avoid violence in the family, or neighborhood and also helps more people get involved in our community. The city should subsidize sports and stop with the idea of closing down Main St to only 2 lanes. We had local city support during the 50’s, 60. and 70’s and also the years my kids were young. Kids can get recognition from their athletic skills rather than their tattoos and gang shootings.
I also hope the city isn’t again subsidizing the Hansen family while they build more apartments that are only 10% low income. We need actual affordable housing rather than the Hansen’s very expensive apartments on Main St. They should also pay back all the tax revenue they avoided when they opened up Gottschalks. It’s been closed for years and they never found a replacement store, thusly they should pay back every cent to the city. Basically they robbed the city of tax revenue.
there needs to be greenspace, trees and enough parking. and it MUST NOT look like a prison !
If Hansen and his group are getting any kind of tax cut from the city as they did for their Gottschalks store, then more than 10% need to be low income. The rents for the other 90% are outrageous for Watsonville. 1500 for a freaking studio? We need more affordable and low income apts and houses so people can get off the streets.
Jesus was just as much of a politcal figure as a religious one. he challenged the status quo. he railed against the practice of charging interest by moneylenders. he overthrew all the gambling tables at temples.
he advocated government help for the poor. in essence, Jesus was a socialist. he would reject the avariciousness of modern USA capitalism. and yes, he would excoriate trump if he could face him down today,
he was a remarkable man, and was killed implementing his beliefs. I dont belong to a church, but i greatly admire Jesus for his truly revolutionary lifestyle and his rejection of the gaudy excess of the Roman Empire. that alone is worth honoring him, whether you are religious or not.
All churches should be taxed just like every other business as they are a business and spend multi millions in elections to sway voters. I prefer to donate to real charities instead of the greedy churches. Salvation Army is one of the better charities along with supporting drug rehabs and women’s
centers that protects women from violence conducted against them by others. Another place to donate is our local food bank which actually helps those in need.
Stop kidding yourself with this shit! We all know they are all getting because you have 2-3 families living in the same home. One of them gets sick they all get sick.
Most excellent reply, mi amigo. I don’t know what else we can do than bring our leaders to water. If they don’t drink, I guess we can hydrate them with IVs
better a crab feed than another drive through fast food crap cafe.
I’m thinking this may be our POTUS’ final FU.
Hint: if several national guard green berets swooped on Mar el dos Lago, that’s where they will find the vaccine, stored in an old garage, unrefrigerated, of course.
If you’re 75+, you can get your Covid vaccine at the main office on Soquel Drive. You have to preregister with your PAMF account so they can verify your age.
Happy 100th Birthday Epi Tavarez. Jimmy,,your grandmother sounds like an outstanding women who has had a wonderful life. I can only hope that I also achieve this age and still be healthy. I agree, loving your family and being happy helps one achieve a long life. Many happy returns.
Why in hell would the county cut health care and workers during a time they’re needed the most. South county seems to always get the raw end of the deal by Santa Cruz county officials. We pay taxes just like everyone else to the county, but our roads don’t get fixed, and health care is cut, while North county has many of their roads fixed and doesn’t lack for health care to combat the virus.. We need a new county supervisor who actually fights for us rather than just taking his huge paycheck.
at the most recent Cabrillo board meeting, held one week ago, i urged the college to go into our county jails (Monterey and Santa Cruz0 and enroll inmates for those who want to change their lives and not repeat the same mistakes. inmates are a captive student audience, and many want their lives to go in a new direction. we also need to reach out to seniors and veterans and offer classes online to meet their special needs.. more than a few classes now scheduled can help both groups, we also need to eliminate tuition for community colleges throughout CA.
a healthy food drive through restaurant is really needed, not a Mickey D’s colon cancer cafe.
Steve, shut your hole! They are making it nicer and cooler. Not making a new one.
Thank you for this reporting!
Personally, I believe they ran screaming from those hallowed halls once they heard ‘the Pajaro Village troublemaker’ was going to make them study Inca-dinka-doo culture/history/math
California was in decline due to mismanagement, then the fires hit, and then the “plandemic”. No surprise here about the decline in enrollment. Schools are closed, healthy people are quarantined, and their ability to make money has been squelched. Producers are leaving the state with good reason.
Hey Steve- haha!
So you mean mismanagement from Newsolini that wants to have California’s like inmates by dictating when and where to go out..
He may want to take a refresher course in that Remedial Civics class he dropped when he decided to become a “politician”.
“Multiple major injuries”. Not very specific, are we.
Elsewhere this was reported as the 1st homicide in Santa Cruz.
The caption under the photo of the SS Watsonville mistakenly says it was sunk by a Nazi sub in 1946, but that is a year after the Nazi’s surrendered and WWII ended with them on May 8, 1945. The caption should probably be corrected to say that the SS Watsonville was sunk in 1942 as indicated in the 75 years ago today paragraph.
I received my first dose of the vaccine yesterday which was done by Sutter. So easy and didn’t even have to leave my car. Many thanks to the Sutter crew for their professionalism and attention to detail at their vaccine clinic.
Now let’s get everyone vaccinated ASAP!
Rather than locate a business with the potential to explode and damage other properties nearby, it should be located far out in the country away from homes, schools and businesses. Don’t be stupid, city hall.
thank you, Honey Bucket. you have said it perfectly.
thank you, WPD. that could have been a tragedy. good work !
I am getting the impression that our hospital either needs a gofundme account, or funds are going places where they should not be going. which is it ?
Hi Steve, I was born/raised in Watsonville but left in 1997 for Sacramento/college, which Sacramento is not any better than Watsonville today vs. when I first moved up here in 97. My entire immediate family, aunts, cousins etc. still live in Watsonville. Watsonville “use to” be affordable and a lovely multi-cultural town where (for the most part) everyone got along and respected each other. One challenge is that, Watsonville IS NOT Santa Cruz, it’s not Capitola, it’s not RDM, Soquel, or Aptos, etc. But an agricultural blue collared low paying area where real estate plus cost of living prices are just extremely out of control. Parents, brothers and sisters who are married (not to each other) are living together just to be able to afford rent and or buy a house which is NOT the American dream. My point being, the greater Watsonville area can’t afford to live comfortably and the answer isn’t to live off of government (state and or federal) assistance for life. How are the people of Watsonville supposed to pay for very high rents/housing prices, pay their portion of company offered benefits, and then have to pay for their portion of the hospital medical bill(s)? Some people don’t even have any medical insurance at all. So, their portion of the medical bill(s) goes into default/collections and WCH has to take a huge write-off hit. However, I do agree that there may be some fraudulent activity with the funds going into greedy executive pockets vs. to the hospital. I’m very sadden to see what has happened to Watsonville-especially if people do not come from old money and or inherit property.
thank you, Sheryl , for an informative post from a perspective I dont have as I did not live here prior to 1997. I agree with much of what you said. the bottom line is we MUST have a functioning, quality, sovent community hospital. where are Rosenthal and Williams ? in hiding ?
Thank you Steve and Sheryl. It’s a sad fact that many locals are living beyond their means these days. Maybe Watsonville and its medical care are just too expensive for poor folks. (I have a lovely lot on the Salton Sea, on the beach, where life is much less expensive. Hit me up)
Hi Dave…love to learn more about the Salton area please.
First, almost everybody there lives at the seashore. I’m guessing they have 340 days of sunshine and no snow (which is why the snowbirds love it.) Second, laid back, good neighbors and minimal law enforcement. What’s not to like? Oh, and the cost of living, probably half that of Watsonville!
Just looked/researched Salton City. I was actually being serious, however. After researching SC, I can see you were being funny because the area is mostly abandoned, VERY HOT, and a very low income and not a good job market area at all…thanks for the info.

Silly Alejo, stop kidding yourself. You want more “Democrat” voters. Just say it. We all know the immigration reform of 1986 was a giant mistake.
Lemme see if I’ve got this right: an influx of pregnant illegals, and pregnant locals – spitting out babies like watermelon seeds – you’re suggesting this may be the end of GOPers?
Perhaps we old-guard Americans should caravan to Mexico? I’m sure they’d be happy to welcome us.
Another 8,000-10,000 illegals on their way. They be here in no time. 11mil already here is bs there’s way more then that. How many is to many illegals?
Ahhhhh…. refreshing comments from the court jester of Watsonville
We don’t need no stinking propane!
Kisses.
Where did the race part enter in ?
Leave it to Trujillo and others to always bring race into any discussion and whine about being treated unfairly.
When we grew up in Watsonville, there were so many different nationalities and races and we all were friends. With Trujillo, everything is about race and how badly Latinos like him have been treated. Such BS.
race is front and center in this question. companies that build noxious , dangerous, unhealthy facitlites usually ALWAYS locate them in areas of poor people of color. they dont locate them in places like Aptos or Pajaro Dunes. these companies know they will encounter mostly people who do not have formal education, may not be citizens, are not wealthy, and will not be able to organize an effective opposition. NOT IN WATSONVILLE ! the community came together and told Mountain energy to go build it somewhere else. i was gratified and proud to see so many of my fellow residents commenting to feject this stupid project,
Bullcrap. You are the racist and a piss poor man.
62% of the voters did not agree with you in the November election. racists defeated include: Trump, Pence, 2 incumbent GOP Georgia U.S. senators and a whole host of congressional and state legilative candidates ( GOP ) across the nation. piss poor man? that describes everyone in the sentence above. again, the voters dont agree with your characterization of me. I will be here for at least 4 more years.
and as far as bullcrap is concerned, maybe that should be your pseudonym, i dont need one or want to use one. i have always used my REAL NAME. i have no apologies or reason to hide from the public as YOU do. honey bucket , indeed ! not hardly ! people with self respect and integrity use their REAL NAMES.
We see your racism clearly Stevio.
thank you , city council. thank you mr. mayor. we shall let our rainbow flag fly free !!!
I never thought building this propane business here to Watsonville was racist. Some of the posters bring racism into every comment they make on this forum. Racist’s like Trujillo and others always do. They promote Latino’s but attack anyone else differing with their opinion as racists. They attack everything anyone not Latino has done in our community. Very divisive to say the least.
I didn’t approve of this plan strictly due to safety issues.
Bull’s eye.
The area is zoned “heavy industrial’. If they don’t want heavy industrial use then they should change the zoning. Otherwise, what is there to complain about. How safe is the BioDiesel plant? They got a permit for the same area. Why should the propane storage facility be denied. Is the BioDiesel plant Latino owned? If so, then I can see why it’s permit was granted.
More than one example here of “educators” who don’t understand the concept of zoning regs. The only good result of this decision is that it puts another nail in the coffin of the “choo choo train” by depriving it of a customer.

boo hoo! as if anyone missed them. and the recall Newsome knotheads did not show either.
coincidence ? I dont think so. same group.
Your buddies were there, however. They were in black shouting “No Cops” and being violent.
A few years back I had a surgery planned at WCH. My physician is in the Watsonville area. Three days before the surgery, my insurance cancelled the surgery due to all the added fee’s that WCH would charge. So, nothing new. WCH has been mismanaged for years. The people of Watsonville and Santa Cruz County deserve better.
why they were not first included is beyond me.
This is one of the- I don’t care comments.
Just don’t get how is “gender” flag more important than their city flag…
he shot his refrigerator ? this guy needs therapy.
“Ian Coetzee, 21, was charged with attempted murder” and you, dimbulb, want to talk about his refrigerator. No wonder the principal at Rolling Hills frog-walked you out of the classroom.
yes, we need a first class hotel, but what happened to the low income people living in the residence motel ?
Nabbing is good. Imprisonment is better. Beheading? That may be a little severe but it certainly would end this scumbag’s anti-social tendencies.
Or is this just another catch and release program? (The Thin Blue Line must HATE their jobs.)
congratulations Epi.
i have asked the Cabrillo board of trustees and its president that Cabrillo now turn its attention to becoming a vaccination site as well. it has served as a testing site for months.
the county needs mulitple vaccination sites in all areas of the county. SCTD should provide express bus service at least 4 times a day to these sites from both the Watsonville and Santa Cruz transit centers.
But, no vaccines available. Why open sites ? Let see, 200 divided by 7 equals 28.5. 28.5 divided by 3 (Soquel Drive-In, Cabrillo and the Fairground’s} equals 9.5. So each location will be open 10 minutes a day? And if its 2000 a week. Thats like an hour and a half a day. Sounds goofy.
Dear Writer: Mea culpa. Here is the article to which I was referring in my comment.
Why open a mass vaccination site if there is no mass of vaccines? Government incompetence in perpetuity ?
So I get the print edition, and I can’t find your article entitled “State Capital Quiet for Inauguration” here. However, I’ll take the opportunity to make a comment . You mentioned that defensive preparations were made on the promise that “far right activists” were going to invade many capitals around the US, and you were prepared to report on the “rightist insurrection” which was to happen in Sacramento. You found one kooky MAGA guy to interview and you reported a few of his non sequiters. However, “by noon…a noisy crowd…dressed in black chanting “No Prisons and No Cops” surrounded the capital. Who were these people? Were they “right wing extremists? Did they fit your narrative? You mentioned that there was some violence involved. Who were the perpetrators? Were they arrested? I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you weren’t present, and so you didn’t get all the facts.
“I believe with my whole heart that we’re finally back on the right track” Please, Rev. Mathews-Johnson tell us what, other than the election of President Biden, indicates to you we are “back on the right track”. How specifically will you be “participating in the transformation of the world” other than supporting the right politicians; and when, in you assessment, were we last on “the right track”?
Excellent point, Earl.
(Btw, the parson person seems to have a lipstick smudge on her left incisor; you’d think Tarmo with his handy-dandy photoshop kit would have taken care of that embarrassment as an editorial courtesy.)
Approximate population of Santa Cruz county is 350,000. Deaths: 135. You do the math.
I’ve been saying this all month! How many business are gone? How many jobs. And the numbers weren’t good with lockdowns. Numbers like that are similar in AZ where they were never in shutdown. And don’t get me started on mental health…
this is NOT just a question of math, rainbelt. It is also a question of getting an increased supply of the vaccine to the most at-risk groups. and we know the most recent stay at home order was not obeyed, nor was the 10 pm curfew. so we wear our masks , social distance and wash our hands often. that DOES work.
Wow ! Mass vaccinations without vaccines. How do they do ?
Steve would probably suggest to ban knives as well…
Since he hates guns and everything that can “harm” or is dangerous…
Oy. This is a bad girl. Plastic sporks for her.
“When knives are outlawed, only outlaws will have knives”.
what a ridiculous response. many thousands die of gun shot wounds. few die from knife wounds. and fortunately, the NRA has declared bankruptcy , so the gun lobby is now weaker than ever.
the reasons why she was fired will emerge. it is hard to keep this a secret in a relatively small community.
You’ve told us that the principal at Rolling Hills perp-walked you out of the classroom, and consequently fired you. Have you been assured this won’t come out in the investigation?
Salsipuedes creek is the fullest it has been in many months. we look forward to the completed project. our former city councilmember, Nancy Bilicich, is largely responsible tor this. thank you, Nancy. I am glad you are my neighbor !!!
Steve, re your frantic climb to the top: Are you aware of this vacancy?
Many of the accomplishments attributed to Michelle Rodriguez were actually things either mandated and funded by the state, such as the return of art and music education, or were initiated and championed by teachers, like the Youth Cinema project. The praise she’s given for being “focused on the students” is particularly surprising since that’s a very low bar to reach. Shouldn’t any educator’s main focus be on students? I don’t find that particularly laudable. That’s the minimum she should have been expected to do.
I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it was lack of attention to students’ needs that was the cause of Dr. Rodriguez’s dismissal. Teachers have had to fight hard for decent salaries and appropriate classroom conditions during her tenure in PVUSD.
good luck to you, Christian and Chris.
If Rodrigues was tending to business for the betterment of the PVUSD and children as this article portrays her to be, then this firing “may have been” the typical jealousy BS. And others jumped on the bandwagon because Acosta is the current board president. In any case, Rodrigues should be in her attorney’s office discussing this (what could be) wrongful termination. However, as Steve states, the real reason will emerge due to Watsonville being a small community.
Acosta always had it out for Dr. Rodrigues, she recruited and cultivated the other board members who voted with her. She is a bad seed!
thank you Sheryl.
Ut oh! Looks like Steve’s got a problem with the ex-supe. Could she have had a role in his perp walk out of Rolling Hills?
A day after her father passed? Shows the boards ice in their veins. Was it really an emergency?
thank you, WPD, for removing him from the streets of Watsonville. he has so many life issues he needs to get some help.
Deport his ass? Or you are anti deportation too?
the judge was correct. these 200 or so people have nowhere else to go. and this park is large enough to house them in tents. not the ideal situation, but better than living in cars , garages or under freeway 1 overpasses if no brick and mortar housing is available.
now, WHO is acting as superintendent ? someone has to be in charge. please let us know, PVUSD.
I nominate you, sweetie-pants
Thank you, Todd for an even-handed report on an issue of importance to our community.
Of course the comments can be read. What did the Board expect? Ms. Acosta’s attempt to hide behind the Brown Act was disgraceful and amateurish.
Tut, you need some decent food outlets. NOT junk food drive throughs. your hotel has some nice features, but the architecture is quite ordinary. it needs vegetation and some redwood trees. they should also offer a senior discount for visiting seniors.
Don’t listen to Steve. I’m the bitter one here. Mr. Tut your place is awesome! Glad we have this. I don’t buy 7 dollar coffee cups but I’ll sure get black drip coffee on my way to the beach. Thank you!
“he needs to get some help” That seems to be your response when these thug-punks get caught. What they need is some hard time, not this sissy shit you’re advocating.
And now your POTUS/VPOTUS have decided our prisons can’t be managed by civilians. That certainly can’t bode well for our law-abiding citizens.
You yourself need some hard time for being such an okole.
Bucket o’ honey, ‘sup with that vicious comment? You and I were in synch on Oscar Rios and nasty-mouth Steve. Was it my reference to KamelaToes and her diddling her way to top that tipped your canoe?
I will not sign any petition unless I know what the circumstances are that led to her being fired. If it is a personnel matter, then it is up to the supt. to reveal why she was fired. Personnel dept. matters are kept confidential for good reasons.
i would suggest the board bring in a neutral , third party negotiator ( to keep the meeting on track and PEACEFUL )to meet with them in closed session. the individual must be approved as well by the fired superintendent.
this could have been fatal to the PGE employee. that part of the county is known for shifting dirt when it gets wet. if you think working for a utility company is a breeze, GUESS AGAIN. the employees in the field are at high risk of possible injury or death when mother nature is on a rampage.
First they blacken her name and now they are saying Oops, we made a mistake. How very unprofessional this PVUSD board is. Vote them all out!!
Sounds like factional infighting on the board. It is a true disservice to the public when factions are created. Each consideration should be weighed on it’s own individual merit.
Thank you, Tony. Clearly our community needs your voice. Keep speaking up for democracy and truth. Those anti-democratic voices here in the comment section are only revealing who are they are. Truth wins.
the community needs to wait for the results of the vote at today’s PVUSD board meeting before drawing conclusions and jumping into action. Allow the board to reflect on their decision.
Make up your mind dudes- are we firing this bitch or not?
Ay, caramba!
Inquisitions still happen.
Steve, stay on your tippy-toes. https://media1.giphy.com/media/3lDeArWdzRtDO/giphy.gif
really poor judgment. There is a protocol for Zoom meeting uses and their security level. otherwise, school district confidential information can be revealed and be used for criminal purposes.
this is a lovely nursery. i have spent hours perusing the grounds and bought many plants and some trees there. the owners are great people and I highly reccomend them.
Todd, very good informative article. Thank you. So sick and tired of most reporters spilling their opinion on their story. Please write more.
Wow, PVUSD staff and students could get whiplash from this bizarre episode. not to mention parents and the community.
Now that both Jennifers are in charge, they will need to decide how they will differentiate themselves to be identifiable in communications with others.
I worked for :PVUSD for one year: 99-00. one of the most bizarre and unhappy years of my professional life.
I had hoped that had changed. this incident does nothing to help the PVUSD reputation.
everyone needs to get THOROUGHLY TRAINED as to how Zoom meetings are conducted, and the security level required for each , BEFORE THE MEETING HAPPENS.
now let Michelle get back to work. she has a ocean liner of work in front of her. we are in a pandemic crisis, a funding crisis, and now a lack of local confidence as to how the district is being managed.
we can all do better.
Its time for a new superintendent! We need to focus on our childrens education and mental health that is deteriorating more and more each day they are not in the classroom and with their peers. NO MORE SCREENS!
I cant wait. we have needed a healthy grocery supermarket for many decades. and yes, they have senior discount days of 10% on Tuesdays and Thursdays. they dont sell junk food OR tobacco.
I cant wait. we have needed a healthy grocery supermarket for many decades. and yes, they have senior discount days of 10% on Tuesdays and Thursdays. they dont sell junk food OR tobacco.
I am hoping our library will have many copies on hand, soon. Our Croatian heritage needs to be given a spotlight as a vital part of Watsonville. good news !
And you, sir, are full of shit. Do you think we Anglos don’t sense your contempt for us?
Finally, a mostly organic market for Watsonville. Wish we also had a Trader Joes here instead of more junk food restaurants like McDonalds.
It seems like we have an uneducated rabble running our local schools district. Who voted for these idiots??? How embarrassing they are and what’s with the school that doesn’t have heat for the building? That’s a real emergency that should have been dealt with when first reported.
Thank you, Juan for a delightful, down-home success story, without a single whine (Steve will be supplying the whine shortly)
And that’s it? Lots of money with no plan for spending it? May I suggest HEPA filtration and open-able windows?
we need all 102 of them. we dont need more cars on the road.
i moved to Watsonville in 2015. i can hardly believe that we have needed this since 1949. I was not born yet. why in HELL has this taken 7 decades to bring to fruition ?
Because Watsonville is run by a bunch of Libtards that rather talk about a statue than fixing actual problems..
Wow-
Public transportation a “civil right”???
So we’ll spend untold tens of millions of dollars for a transportation system most of us will avoid
taking, like we do for the current bus lines.
In the meantime, for a fraction of what the train dream will cost, we could add a third lane to Hwy 1, drastically reduce drive times and sitting in traffic burning fuel….
did you fail science in high school ? sure sounds like it. we dont need more cars on the road. we are raising the temperature of the planet with all the internal combustion engines on the road now. the bus lines are down in ridership due to Covid 19. get a clue, burlybilt.
we needed this project at least 60 years ago.
Furthermore, California will be rolling out road usage fees, which is per-mile usage fee for roads. Providing a rich blend of transit choices — walkable towns, bike & pedestrian infrastructure, and public transit — will overall be healthier and more cost effective relying exclusively on the almighty automobile.
(P.S. Caltrans no longer recommends adding lanes. That theory has been debunked.)
(P.P.S. Adding a third lane to Hwy 1 is more expensive than the most expensive estimate for rail construction.)
Since it was you who brought the snarky comment about science into the conversation, let’s review it regarding climate change.
From ice log borings in the Antarctic research facilities, we know that 13,000 and then 11,000 years ago, there were huge spikes in temperature during a relatively long, cold ice age. Since then, there has been a steady warming in earth’s climate, (thankfully) bringing us out of the most recent ice age.
The seas have risen over 400 ft!
The mile and a half thick ice cap over North America has mostly disappeared. All without those dreadful internal combustion engines.
All without mankind’s control, impact or intervention.
We have to check ourselves when we think we understand why the planets is warming and can control to a great extent the long term climate of the planet……
Not to say we shouldn’t be wise stewards of our planet, but let’s not aggrandize ourselves into thinking we know and control to a great degree something largely beyond our current understanding.
You don’t “win” a conversation by coming on like a junior high bully…
Civil rights are legislated rights. Doubtful that Mesiti-Miller can come up with the legislation on that one.
Instead of youth programs, assistance for the homeless, adult education, and other community programs, lets just waste tax dollars on this pie-in-the-sky dream. With COVID, we have learned that only essential travel was allowed, and if a bus was at its maximum, then the individual wanting to catch that bus would have to wait for the next. As for the vehicles on the road during the weekly commute, I guess this person has never been on Hwy 1 on the weekend. If this is ever put on a ballot as a bond measure, I will definitely vote, NO.
I think you, my beloved Peronian, are trying too hard to please too many people.
Those towers were quite the landmark for a long time, and very pretty as broadcast towers go. But uselessness has its limits, and I guess they were reached here.

I took a bus to Santa Cruz from Watsonville on Thurs and it was no issue. Plenty of seats, and good distances from each passenger. I’m not for the rail until we get more low income and affordable housing for our Santa Cruz country homeless and poor residents. There is no way the train can be paid for by ticketing and I want my tax money to help our residents.
hmmm
As a Cabrillo trustee, I want to express our pride for the years of service from Cabrillo alum John Walbridge to the community.
As a Cabrillo trustee, I urge the Pajaronian readers to view this exhibit. They document real life. They are an important part of African American history month. One photo is worth at least thousands of words.
thank you to the Pajaronian for bringing this exhibit to the attention of its readers.
Yo Steve! See this? – an RP news article in Spanish with no English translation. Down with honkey-ass anglos! https://media2.giphy.com/media/3ELtfmA4Apkju/giphy.gif
Noticed how Steve’s ideas are not the same as Jimmy Dutras?
Jimmy is doing the right thing. Steve is anti white people and our first president. He sees racism in everything. He’s the racist.
At the risk of angering many of those who either worship Washington as a god, or denounce him as the devil, I shall repeat my compromise proposal, which has appeared in the Pajaronian numerous times:
1. move GW to either the city hall or the library.
2. install a large , detailed plaque , in both Spanish and English of his life. include accomplishments and failings of his life, which were many.
3. reserve the city plaza for hometown heroes. the city should call for artists and local historians to submit project ideas to install around the cement circle in front of the bandstand. Call it : El Jardin de los heroes de la comunidad. Garden of community heroes.
Soylent Green is correct in the statement below. GW was neither God nor Devil. he was a human being, as ALL of our presidents have been.
He was the first popularly elected leader of a nation in history to WILLINGLY step down after 2 terms in office. that had not happened since Emperor Cincinatus of the Roman Empire thousands of years ago. Cincinnati , Ohio , is named for him.
He led the ragtag band of untrained volunteers into battle against the most advanced military army of the late 1700’s and WON.
He established the post office.
He worked to keep out foreign invaders.
ON THE OTHER HAND:
he was a slave owner who freed them in his will AFTER he died.
he believed in white , European superiority.
his letters also reveal him to be a misogynist. he believed women were not mentally fit to vote or serve in office.
his policies encourged the genocide of all indigenous, first nation peoples of America . he wanted the land they had , and every natural resource on it , to belong to white men. period.
he is neither the worst American ever, or the best. but we have to acknowledge his life as part of our history.
There never was a concern about our founding father, George Washinton, being in the plaza till Steve Trujillo opened his victimized yap.
Majority of tax paying citizens of Watsonville want the beautiful statue of our first president to stay where it is and I concur.
If they move it, repay the Alaga family back for all the money they spent on having it created, and all the money they gave to fix up the park and also donated to the library. For the city to accept the statue on condition it’s placed in our Plaza and then dishonor the commitment they gave to the Alaga family after taking their money, is disgusting.
Washington was a very heroic individual. But he also owned and exploited slaves. It was considered normal back then. I don’t think individuals should have to be insulted by his presence in a recreational area. I also believe you have to look to the past to see a clear path forward. Take him out of the park and put him near the library with a bilingual plaque. Its the perfect compromise. Maybe you could have Amanda Gorman write that plaque. She has a way with words, the likes of which I have never seen before.
Esteban, as a practicing homosexual you must have some thoughts on this. His prey were 7 and eleven – I doubt they even had pubic hair.. What do the NAMBLA bylaws say about that? Or do they simply say, ‘if it feels good do it’?
Bet you he collected the $500 dollar illegal immigrant California Stimulus check- thank you stevan- you just have a methhead $500
Why is the bust showing Grafiiti and damage? Was this an actual event? An editing by reporting staff? I have a screen shot.
There were flowers in Old George’s eyes, not tagging although I wouldn’t put it past trujillo too desecrate it.
But what about the blood-red smear around his lower face? Tarmo, you took both of these pics – before and after – was that blueberry jam in the ‘after’? (Tony won’t tell us.) Maybe it was flavored KY Jelly? If so, it will be light work to slide GW up Steve’s ass for permanent keeping.
Hey you think Tony Nunez is also gay and is in Stevans Circle of penis?
LOL, might be. But that would mean the ‘gay infestation’ has invaded city hall, the RP and Cabrillo College. I fear our days are numbered, Amargado.
I am very pleased that the city council majority voted to endorse my compromise plan as to where to put the GW statue.
I made my proposal months ago in the Pajaronian , and repeated it at least 3 times since then.
i have a critique of those who took both extreme views opposing me.
1. to the Solano group: get a clue folks, the nation has changed demographically. in 1980, the USA was 89% white. the census bureau now reports that the USA is 59% white. non white people have a rather different view of GW.
and, Solano group, you need to understand: there are 3 constants in life: death, taxes and CHANGE.
the statue is a work of art. it was a gift of mr. Alaga as a thank you gift. it will be accessible to those who wish to view it in our public library. it iwill be safe from graffiti and vandalism.
and lastly, you need to take US history again. stop believeing in mythology about GW. the cherry
tree story, the story about GW throwing a silver dollar across the Potomac and other silly stories are just so much crap.
HOW DO I KNOW ? teaching US history to 8th graders and 11th graders for decades in CA public schools makes me qualified to say this.
2. to the Mezzaluna group: you need to get a clue as well. making the GW statue disappear only covers up the truth about GW. you represent yourselves as having intellect. show it. a publlic library is where you learn. the bilingual plaque beside GW will highlight both his wrongs and his rights. I know . i took my classes to both the public library and school library to do research projects in the field of history.
to repeat: GW promoted genocide against native , indigenous populations on this continent. this is fact, not speculation. GW was a blatant misogynist: he felt that women could not vote or serve in government. He kept slaves until he freed them in his will. why? he felt that people of color were his inferiors meant to do physical labor. how do we know ? letters, journals, speeches and drawings KEPT IN LIBRARIES, including the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS.
AND: GW was the first leader in modern history to actually GIVE UP POWER after 8 years. not since Cincinnatus, emperor of ancient Rome did so thousands of years ago, did this happen . Cincinnatus ALSO returned to his farm to live out his days, as did GW.
GW led the band of untrained colonists against the strongest army and navy the world had ever known up to that time: the British army and navy. HE DEFEATED THEM.
GW prevented seditionists and traitors from taking over the Capitol or the White House. Something Donad Trump REFUSED TO DO !!!
do we have a white nationalist problem in our nation? FBI director Curtis Wray has said so. they are the most violent extremist group now existing in the US.
and yes, we have some of its members as residents of Watsonville. FACT.
i did not receive the survey about GW statue in the mail , or by email, either. i question the results. no demographic information was available as to WHO responded to the survey. it was not me. and we cant afford 60 thousand dollars for a special election to decide this issue.
Mayor Dutra is correct. we need to work on our issues, and we need to look for values that we share, no matter our ethnic heritage, gender, sexual orientation, first language or place of birth.
when we leave the purple tier of the pandemic, I shall revisit my propoosal for our city plaza to both the CC and the Parks and Rec commission.
we can create our own Jardin de los heroes de Watsonville ( Watsonville garden of heroes) . it should be an event sponsored by the city, inviting local artists and historians, to create this garden in our city plaza.
my last request in this post: you want to stop white nationalism? call every damn GOP senator in DC and insist they CONVICT TRUMPDUMP . that is the best thing you can do right now to change America for the better and REJECT the psycho nut jobs like Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Stevan, mi jotiux- can you also ask the city to return the $270k they took from the Alaga Family?
Stevio,, you are just as racist as those you accuse of being racist. You always whine about being a heshe Latino and attack Anglos for racism, but you forget that your racism is just as bad. You are the racist and we can all see it. Every condescending word out of your ugly mouth is racist. You never say one word about all the Latino racists and those Latino’s that have exploited, raped, cheated, and murdered their fellow Latino’s. Latino history is available to anyone who cares and their story is just as ugly as any other group.
Then you whine about being mistreated due to your being a gay Latino. People don’t respect you due to your racism and your pity parties for yourself. So GFY.
Bet you Steve Blocked you too!! Hmm Latino does not equal Mexican Decent- surprised he didn’t used that gay term Latinx.
I hate how Steve talks for all Latinos. I’m a paisa and I love George Washington! Last time I checked Agustín de Iturbide (1st Mexican President) wasn’t better than GW. As a matter of fact he was not a saint either.
Oh well better pack my shit and move out off this corrupt ass city.
I could care less if Steve blocks me. He’s a nothing who thinks he’s a something.
He always brags that he’s smart, better than anyone else and who whines that he’s a proud Latino gay man that everyone has discriminated against.
I know many gay people who don’t brag about their gender just like I know many hetro people who also don’t brag about their gender. Who even talks about who they have sex with except heshe Steve?
You really live up to your name Honey Bucket. Because you’re full of shit.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/3f02f2acc47bbcd84b04bb36803b22586b89ea361f110cc197ef180d69eb6b9d.jpg
LOL ! i am one of the few to use my real name on the Pajaronian website . my words and my actions bring me no shame. my integrity is intact. so is the love I have for my country. I am NOT a rioting, seditionist, traitorous trumpturd.
Steve do you want us to gift you some KY because you use your real name? It doesn’t make you a hero, man cool your jets old man you may break a hip
No you’re a whiny hiney who whines about being a rear ender that no one loves. You continually have pity parties for yourself and attack Anglos.
Why did you get kicked out of Rolling Hills Schools? Did you get to grabby with the kids?? Asking for a friend.
Is that all you’ve got? Pitiful.
Maybe they’ll replace GW with Benedict Arnold, i.e. if they know who he is.
Benedict Arnold is DONALD TRUMP. convict him and ban him from public office forever.
Steve prolly wants a bust of Ricky Martin.
Better to ban old Ms Stevie from public office. Wait till Cabrillo kicks him out for harassing the kids at school like Rolling Hills did.
Steve doesn’t represent Mexicans in our town. They didn’t vote for him. He won in the district that is past the river and closer to North Monterey County.
Locals know he’s nuts.
And the homeowners threw him off the HOA board when he attempted to run for a second term – not unlike a trumpdump.
A lot of the Mexicans I worked with are Trumpers. He wouldn’t know that because he never associates himself with work.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/452ba9c3546d9b900aea2cb84b595e6d2a928548e4f228e2ef7b200daf027b2e.jpg
data from the census bureau is telling: in 1980, the American population was 89% white. in 2020, it is 59% white. the nation is changing. this is not racism, it is fact. Eurocentric attitudes, like the attitudes of GW , are changing. like it or not. perception is reality.
You are judging the mores of the past with the mores of the present, making you extremely biased as an “historian”.
my bias is that I know America does not support, in its constitution, genocide . our bill of rights does not support misogyny, racism , homophoba, xenophobia or bigotry. i know my constitution and bill of rights. try reading it. you might learn something. they were written before 1800. they are NOT recent documents.
The constitution as originally written doesn’t mention one word of support for homosexuals (those who have sex with humans of their same gender), They would have been horrified by homos. Try reading it.
Principles change neither with the time nor the political climate. Stop reading Zinn’s propaganda and pick up Bancroft for some real History. You might learn something.
Howard Zinn deals in fact , not propaganda. if you actually read him, you would know. the fact is: the bill of rights does not support ANYTHING that GW believed. and genocide was not endorsed as part of our Constitution , our Declaration of Independence. GW believed in “Manifest Destiny”, a ridiculous belief that the USA was given free reign to murder any indigenous person who got in the way of the US armed forces and prevented the USA from growing any direction GW( and his successors ) wished. This absurd belief that GOD gave our nation the right to overwhelm
and absorb any one or any nation that got in the way is the worst kind of nationalism and fascism.
Trump wanted to steal Greenland away from Denmark. why ? lots of land and purely white people. what an obvious attempt to offset Puerto Rican statehood and DC statehood.
and Bancroft , while a good historian, has been exposed as being a Eurocentric fool, promoting and exalting any effort to make white European males the predominant poltical power. no wonder you support him !
You have a very skewed and incorrect view of race, discrimination etc. You think only in terms of “I’m a gay Latino who everyone hates and has discriminated against. .You have tunnel vision and lack intellectual maturity in your comments. Poor old Stevie. You remind me of Lindsey Graham.
Th world doesn’t revolve around you, “teacher”. Nobody cares about your personal problems.
FYI, rainbelt, i worked as a new teacher at Hubert Howe Bancroft middle school in Hollywood in 1979 for the LA city school district. the school library had some of his works. i read them while working as a history teacher there.
your assumption that i have not read what you have is a typical assumption of white males with privilege. you dont know my past, or my public school career of 36 years, nor have you had my experience with both racism and homophobia through most of my life.
Steve is a shehe or heshe depending on whose doing the act. Don’t know if he messes with little boys yet, but ya know, we won’t know until someone reports him.
Deport his ass! Send him back to Mexico!
Wait, Steve is anti deportations-
Steve and his brother Charley are both racists. They attack Anglos just for breathing. They forget that Latino’s are the ones who do the most exploiting of their fellow Latino’s. Stevie and his brother Charley never mention all the treatment Latino’s have received in history that came from their own. Even in Watsonville, Latino’s did and still exploit their fellow Latino’s. Steve is only concerned with what happened in the 1700 when slavery was legal. He’s a tool and too stupid to realize it.
I hate the term Latino! It’s so not right! Stupid census labeling people- I consider myself American with Mexican ancestry.
Kudos!!
I’ve got Swedish, English and Indigenous people in my blood, But I’m an American first!!
When Rebecca retired from Cabrillo, she only told Latino’s about her plans so they’d get their resumes in first to give them a foot up. She is racist just like the other Latino’s on the city council. She discriminates against anyone who isn’t a Latino.
Are only Latino’s allowed to exhibit at these shows?? Watsonville is home to many different nationalities that have great artists. Can we exhibit our work also??? Since we pay for these exhibits through out tax paid, we should all be allowed to exhibit our art. Do let us know how our tax dollars will be used to represent all nationalities artists work in Watsonville.
There are many great artists, and this particular duo share that their aim is to showcase Latino art due to limited existing venues for doing so, and even went to far as to soliciting a grant to fund the work. I imagine they have also put in countless hours organizing, etc.
I wish more people could see a creative idea led by historically disenfranchised folks and celebrate the ingenuity and drive, instead of immediately jumping up to yell “what about me?!” and exert their “rights” as if there is a finite amount of human rights to go around. It’s akin to those who in response to the movement Black Lives Matter yell out “all lives matter” instead of reacting with curiosity for why there needs to be a movement to assert that Black Lives Matter.
Also, please note that the article quotes Santa Cruz artist Evan Siegesmund as taking part in Arte del Corazón’s shows since November, and that the current exhibition series theme is “For the Love of Plants.” Nowhere does the article mention of excluding local artists from exhibiting their art.
Well there goes my large donation I used to give to the SC Arts council. I won’t donate anymore because they only support artists of color in Watsonville and shun anyone with white skin. How very racist. Art and grants and those who benefit should not be based on skin color. So my large annual donation (and It’s a very large one) will go to PP. PP supports women of all colors not just non white and I’d rather support an organization that supports all races and skin colors.
There are many great artists here in Watsonville that are white and could use support also. I will also encourage my fellow artists who have donated in prior years to stop donating due to the racism. SC Art Council specified that the Watsonville grant was for People of Color, not all Watsonville artists so your denial is worth nada.
Nobody looks good here. Mob rule and threats of violence get the prize, though.
There we are folks, an influx of cash we can offer the Alaga family for our desecration of their kind gift. Maybe Steve Trujillo would be humble enough to give it to them, since he’s the chief desecrater – and, of course, it’s all about him, always.
Did our neighbors to the North just legalize everything? How do you think its going to get there? Though us…lol.
illegal narcotics often travel by the Pacific ocean. this is why the Coast Guard boards so many ships off our coast.
And the pangas rarely come up this far let alone Oregon…so…
the motel had become a real eyesore and embarrassmement for the city.
Why were you kicked out of Rolling Hills Middle school Ms Stevie? Did you get too familiar with the kiddies?
great photo of the alleged perp. you can see he realizes he may very well spend time in LA PINTA. the Sinaloa cartel has been terrorizing people in Mexico for years. it is time to put them on trial in a big way.
Sounds like the city needs a new fair airport manager, who is going to cause the city to pay millions in legal costs and damages. How very stupid our city mgmt is.
I nominate our whiney Steve Trujillo to grab a shovel and do some heavy lifting. Might put some hair on his puny chest.
Has anybody considered the fact that old folks have had a gut-full of this political shit? Maybe they’d like to drift off, quietly and painlessly? Covid-19 just may be their chance.
Speak for yourself. I know of no older people who just want to drift off and die. All the old folks I know want to get their vaccine shot.
PS I have gotten my vaccine shot and get my second one on Monday.
Why don’t you just drift off.
You amuse me bit o’honey. Every once in a while your nasty side pops up and gives me a
chuckle.
For instance, have you visited a full-care facility recently? It’s filled with old folks, doped up to the gills, none of them chuckling, all of them wanting this to be over.
You’re beginning to sound like our resident egomaniac: it’s not all about you.
I don’t have any friends in rest homes or care facilities. All my older friends are daily walkers, joggers, bikers and tokers. We are very healthy and able to do more than all the fat young people. Toke and tea. No booze.
I like that Bit o honey. Better than Honey Bucket a name I picked years ago before I realized it was a name for the shitter truck. My bad.
As I said, it’s not all about you and your vibrant friends, it’s all about the really old folks vegetating in warehouses. No walking, skipping, jogging, or hula-hooping for them.
Again, get over yourself and your still-able friends. There are some folks – god love them – who’d like to invite Covid-19 into their lives.
Hey Jimmy my man- what you going to do in order to get vaccines and fix our roads? Just express your opinion on the RP?? Can You start by getting rid of the porta johns- on Grant St- that smell
Of shit is far important than telling us your opinion on the RP.
ToeKnee Nuner is an Idiot.
no, he is a thoughtful, intelligent, insightful newspaper editor.
and it is interesting that you have such a preoccupation with body parts. And his, like mine, is a Latino surname. it ends in the letter Z. i know you never learned the full alphabet. now is your opportunity.
unlike you, he uses his real name and does not hide using a pathetic pseudonym like you.
thank you , Tony, for a thoughtful editorial. i look forward to your words of wisdom in future columns.
Steve Hussain Trujillo to the rescue of his boy toy. Another sham Impeachment come & gone. Where’s ToeKnee’s article on that? Or about Andrew Cuomo?
How many replacements of this guy are coming north now that the border agents have a 100 day stand down order from out new President…..
Hurray for common sense. Charter schools came to be because of the abject failure of public educators to educate. Perfect example, our newest trustee – the one-eyed trouser mouse – at Carbrillo who has been preaching/teaching anarchy for his complete ‘career’
the portable classrooms can be moved to accomodate flexing populations at any one of our schools. i do ask that PVUSD make CERTAIN that they do not have formaldehyde like the FEMA trailers of years past. and they need to provide heat, cooling and proper air circulation.
This is simply the next in a long series of attacks on the aviators at Watsonville Airport by Williams. Williams arrived on the scene some years ago as, basically a nobody – I mean he came from outside the airport but he had a plan to takeover. He worked on the City Council and managed to convince them that the long-term tenants at the airport were all up to nefarious things, untrustworthy and in need of a sheriff to come in and clean up the dirty little town. The exact opposite was true in fact but nonetheless, Williams quietly put into place an enormous new charter of City Code into Watsonville’s By-laws, with the approval of the City Council. When some of the aviators noticed this going on and approached Williams he insisted that the new rules weren’t being enforced. That fooled very few pilots and, sure enough, the day arrived when Williams’ plan was put into full effect. From that instant he has ruled that airport like a prison warden, threatening all the venerable tenants with eviction, fines and bails.
Instead of the pilots being treated with respect they deserve – they are mostly, after all, getting older and are hobby pilots – paying tenants, without whom the airport would be non-existent. During Williams’ reign as Dictator at the airport he has wrought destruction to the norms of the airport, losing even Granite Construction, who were the founder company who took over the airport from the Navy in 1949. They left in disgust and are now at Monterey, where they’re treated with the respect they deserve. Williams has built up an empire out at the airport , with a sizable team of snitches, all spying on the imagined wrongdoings of the paying tenants, payed for largely out of hangar rent hikes. and, by the way, he’s no longer Airport Manager, no, he’s Airport Director, with a big team of underlings reporting to him. Who pays for all this and his enormous salary? You do – we do – the taxpayer. He is a public servant!!
This debacle with United Flight Services is just the latest in a long string of problems since Williams arrived. He’s brought a lot of trouble to the City of Watsonville and it’s high time he was replaced,
The dirty little town cronyism kept my airplane out in the Watsonville weather for seven years waiting for a hangar spot to open up. That wasn’t happening with all the hangars being used as non-aviation storage and the horse trading for leases. Within of months of Rayvon taking over, dozens of hangars opened up and the wait list is moving. Granite refused to share the airport with the parachute jump enterprise, trading a business the surrounding community rarely saw for one that the community could actually see, relate, and participate with.
Hey this is down the street from my house. I go walk my dogs on that levee… problem here is drugs! Bums not paying their drug debt..
On the other hand? Tony- You promised you would write more.. no Trump article??
DemoRats- 0 … American Values 2
it is clear that an amicable, out- of- court settlement is in the best interest of the city and the company.
Steve, wtf do you know about local aviation? Don’t you have enough on your plate being the hero to nature’s misfits?
ToeKnee Nuner where’s the Donald Trump was acquitted again article? You had time to write this one. Another 30+mill down the drain that could’ve been spent on helping illegals since all the demoRats do is help them.
The left will not leave el Donaldo alone until they’ve ground him under their heels into tiny pieces of dust.
something something Benghazi
I think I get what you’re attempting to say, can you elucidate, señor? https://media1.giphy.com/media/hv53DaYcXWe3nRbR1A/giphy.gif
TRUMP lied about the virus. we have lost nearly half a million. Benghazi cannot compare. TRUMP LIED, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS DIED.
LOL! Looks like TDS may be incurable. No vaccine for it either.
They try what they try. Let them try.
Thats party over country for ya
YES, a RETHUGLICAN characteristic.
Trump is going to court to fight indictments from 2 women who have accused him of raping them ( plus his media attacks against them), the new york state attorney general has 3 cases against him, the district attorney of Altanta is preparing charges for bullying and threatening the GA sec. of state, and the FBI has two investigations that will lead to charges ( corruption). there is no one in the WH to pardon him. and the trump thugbrats are also likely to be indicted.
7 GOP senators vored to convict. it was the majority view by 57-43. not enough to convict, but plenty to use in court to prosecute the orange thug troll and put him in jail AMEN !!!
So after Donald beats that what’s next? DemoRats going to sue him because he didn’t double flush? He let it marinate to long.
Happy Presidents’ (GW, Lincoln, Trump) Day, everybody!
yes, let us celebrate the END of TRUMPISM and the beginning of the BIDEN era.
Such a beautiful facility. Good work Ms. Rodriguez in pushing through all the legal threats and blusters to make this happen. The students of PV High will thoroughly enjoy and I am happy for them.
I totally agree, Pedro. this is so long overdue.
Maybe is time WPD does more community policing vs harassing farm workers…
Good for you, Michelle. practical instruction that matches the kid’s abilities.
Glad to see someone is actually promoting young people learning something other than “white collar” job paths, tho it seems like it might be more effective in a high school setting to help launch emerging adults into careers..
if you were not aware of it, chefs wear white collars and earn more than minimum wage.
Where’d he get the gun?
Who cares…It’s not the guns fault. Whatever happened to personal responsibility …?
If He ran over the guy with His car, would you be asking “where did He get the car” ?
Considering he’s a drunk criminal gang banger with a gun, it would be reasonable to ask where he got the car.
Better spent at the HS level to promote possible career paths and important life skills. A culinary program at HS level can help pay for itself. How many elementary student’s parents want them in the kitchen near sharp knives, stoves, and hot or boiling pots and pans? For the younger age student it could pose a danger even if supervised.
They have a gourmet cooking class at Cabrillo where the public can pick up food to go (hint hint).
The Sesnon house is one of the best places for food in the county. One reason I am proud of being a Cabrillo trustee is the outstanding work of the Culinary arts program at Cabrillo, including the director and their students. I look forward to their reopening to the public . It is a source of pride to all of us. hopefully , some of the students at Starlight elementary will go on to the program at Cabrillo.
this is fabulous news. Emeril Lagasse is one of the world’s great chefs, and our Starlight school will be only one of four of his sites in the nation. congratulations to the superintencent and the board. i hope there will be an open house for the public when the pandemic is past. i want to attend.
alcohol and guns NEVER mix well. I am glad he is behind bars, although that will never bring Octavio back. this is why we dont allow guns where alcohol is served, and why our shooting range does not allow alcohol.
again, alcohol and guns NEVER mix. good work by the Santa Cruz county sheriff’s dept. thankfully the victim is expected to survive.
father-daughter singing duos are rare in the U.S. the Cash family was probably the most famous, for good reason. i am so happy for them, and i hope when we can have concerts again, post pandemic, that they will perform locally.
A drunk criminal with a gun.
What a sweet face; who could not love him?
The military industrial complex provides a great working future for those with a high school education when they join the military. They can receive a valuable technical education, especially from the Air Force and Navy, receive a pension after 20 years of honorable service, and then jump into a lucrative second career with one of many defense contractors. Happens all the time.
They also get first chance at fed jobs after honorable military service. Both my kids served and as I advised them to save as much as they could during their service, both came out with $10,000 saved in their accounts since the military pays for your room and board. Also free medical care for the rest of their lives, college funding and home buying assistance. . I encourage kids to serve but they have to graduate from high school and keep a good grade point average. The military doesn’t take everyone, like they used to.
Thank Pretty Boy Greasy Gavin Newsolini!!!
Lovely people, I wish them well. But, they make pizzas at home and cook them in Pajaro? With an ever-changing menu? During a pandemic? With no inside seating? Oy!
Maybe it’s time to get some business-savvy anglos involved.
$1750 to $2650 is not affordable. this is what many people make a month in Watsonivlle.
both housing projects are welcome, but this will only put a tiny dent in the affordable housing needs of the people of Watsonville.
As if we don’t have too many do-nothing paper shufflers/water cooler monitors in govt. jobs as it is…..
yeah, bb, i get ZERO DOLLARS for being an elected Cabrillo trustee. I was a santa cruz city school board trustee from 2010-2014 and also received ZERO dollars for my service.
you are both uninformed and misinformed. many who serve goverrnment make little or nothing for their service. i do it because i wish to serve my community, and pro bono work has been a part of my life.
Gosh Steve, you seem to know so much about people you’ve never met!
I came out of the private sector were one was paid for performance, production, etc…
Now working in a govt. job, i see many doing the bare minimum to get a paycheck, horrible amounts of time and money wasted, gross incompetence etc..people and jobs that would never be able to survive in a competitive atmosphere.
The best govt. can do is to promote private sector jobs that do more productive work, period.
you are still limited as to what you see. I see city employees , county employees and state employees working far beyond their regular work hours to provide services for the people.
gross incompetence ? that is why we tossed Donald Trump, along with other reasons.
competitive atmosphere ? what kind of atmosphere do private , for profit colleges , like the defunct Heald college provide ? they DONT. that is why Kamala Harris took them to court and they went out of business.
FDR , in the 1930’s, created a number of agencies that put people back to work and brought us our of the worst recession in US history.
go back and do some reading.
and if you are working in a government job, you need to address what you see around you at a closed door staff meeting.
And we hoped maybe for once, this wasn’t all about the one-eyed trouser mouse. I imagine he turns to his beau tonight, ” bend over and grease yourself, we’re going to talk about me.”
Back on topic: Absolutely. Hitler did it, Stalin did it, Mao did it, Uncle Ho did it, the guy in Venezuela did it, Castro did it, L’il kim jung un did it. Might could work here – if you don’t mind forced labor in a coal mine or in a rice field.
..
note to self: avoid the levee after midnight
the strawberry festival is not until late summer. it should be kept on the calendar, with some alterations for the virus.
You aren’t in charge.
Staff of Life , which opens March 30, will boost Watsonville sales tax revenue and income quite a bit. so will the new hotels , per the TOT tax. Now that many of the yearly events sponsored by the city of Watsonville have been cancelled, money wont have to be spent by the city on them , either..
and , yes, we need to rebuild Ramsay park fields. equally as important , Tony , is that we not trash them as well. how do I know ? last Sunday i picked up trash on the Ramsay park baseball field. what a MESS ! but with 7 other volunteers it is amazing how much you can clean up a park in one hour.
The majority of People will not shop at staff of life. Too expensive for farm workers. About 50% of Watsonville population lives on minimum wage- I’m sure they would rather shop at La Princessa or Del Sol or any those other locally owned stores.
Well those of us who can afford a bit more will gladly put our money here rather than Safeway or Nob Hill. I don’t make a lot of money but I value what I put into my body and feel its a good place to splurge.
Nice! Congratulations. Lucky you. You are the other 50%
There’s always Watsonville Farmers Market 😉
The point here was that staff of life will not boost “sales” tax as much as Stevaniux suggested..
Disagree. You think all Mexicans are poor when they’re not. You aren’t keeping up. Check Trader Joes and you’ll see all nationalities shop there. I wish we had a Trader Joes here in Watsonville. Great prices and good.
Yo, I never said that. Those are your words. Said about 50% of Watsonville’s population lives on minimum wage- they won’t shop at an over priced store.
I know lots of people who will shop there as I’m one of them. I prefer more healthy organic foods. They sell meats that are organic and like the meat we used to eat when we were kids. I also buy my chickens at Corralitos market which has the best chicken for sale in our area. Nob Hill is a rip off. Grocery outlet has some good stuff but you have to look at the date label.
I also shop at La Princessa, Del Sol and Carmona’s for various things. Also D’La Colmena for additions to my pantry. We shop at all stores whether they are Mexican or not.
Also Fujitas for my Japanese ingredients when cooking Japanese food.
Nice!! Don’t forget freedom meat locker!
I go there also.
I walked by Ramsey park walking up the hill to the shopping center. As I looked down onto the park, I say tons of garbage. Where did you pick up garbage? Ramsey park right next to shopping center is full of garbage, and homeless camps. I’ve walked by smelling bums cooking their meth while having illegal fires. The park is still dirty as hell and needs a real pickup. I think Steve brags a bit since the park looks as dirty as it did the day before you supposedly helped clean up the park.
How about helping our homeless population first.
Bunch of bums live south of that park… kick them bums out!
Whaat? No fire in the sky from
Your car?
Pizzas in Pajaro ! Thats got a ring to it.
..
Glad they caught these criminals, HOWEVER notice how they brag about the Meth being the biggest seizure? “This 572-pound seizure represents the largest federal seizure ever of methamphetamine in the northern district of Northern California.” . How many times have we read SIMILAR claims regarding drug seizures as if that makes ANY difference in the supply of these drugs in America?? The sad truth is that these drug raids will have no effect on the supply. The War on Drugs is WHY the Cartels rose to power in the first place. Our crackdown kept prices up and made it profitable to make meth in Mexico. The War on Drugs is a failure and a full employment gig for law enforcement. These drugs are coming into America on semi trucks ,not some guy with a backpack. Only 2% of incoming freight is fully inspected. Instead of wasting tons of money on law enforcement chasing these guys, how about spending THAT money on full inspection of goods coming across our borders? Work with the Mexican government to put the squeeze on the Cartels.
And the unhoused, the rule-breakers and the undocumentos? How do they fit into the grand scheme? Or do they just wander around our town, superspreading?
Majority of undocumentos are farm workers..prolly bought your social security number from a dude who stole your mail.
The dudes that hang out at Home Depot those are straight undocumentos and yep super spreaders- not to worry, according to Steve and the Democrats (not me) white folks, straight men, Christians are second class citizens. Steve also believes you should be ashamed of being Anglo since you enslaved and killed Indians 300 years ago…
this is why alcohol and driving dont mix. this is why early intervention is needed when alcoholism is apparent to family and friends.
Woe is us.
Steve, before you applaud yourself, let me have the pleasure.
Without a doubt, my hero, Steve Trujillo is a ‘lifetime role model’ especially for the kiddies.
My fear is if you self-adulate some unheroic things might be revealed, like the homeowners fiasco, the dismissal at Rolling Hills, your contentious time at Cabrillo, and god knows what about those lost years in LALALAND. Whoo. Makes me blush.
Big congrats to Calavera you guys rock! I’m really proud of you all. @/marcus keep up the good work and put all that energy into the Community like you’ve been doing!
This is a whole lot of something about nothing.
Assimilate. Do yourself and your progeny a favor.
Outside the limits of W’ville this is viewed as touchy-feely shit, of no value to an industrious world.
What a hateful little man you are. Your envy is showing just a tad.
Susan, why the nasty attitude? You know nothing about me. The name calling tells me you’ve studied at the School Of Steve (you may have noticed he’s abandoned that). I’m more than willing to discuss my post, but I will insist you give me logic, not pea-brainedness. https://media1.giphy.com/media/YQAHc9mBnTLly7zz58/giphy.gif
Funny GIF. Susan, do you think that’s his bifurcated pecker or his hand?
Ridiculous but not surprising with demorats in control. This monster needs to Rott in prison.
the decision was based on science. science is fact. thumbs bases all his opinions on what trump says or right wing ideology, none of which is fact based. sad.
There you go defending monsters like this one. He still killed & raped an innocent little girl u Bastard, what now u going to want him to get a free education from cabrillo to better his life? I hope you get fired soon from cabrillo.
Your house is a very very very fine house for this boy-murderer when he’s set free.
You used to counsel human waste at Soledad so it will be old home week. (Let’s just pray he doesn’t rise up in the night and slice your crepey neck.)
Parsons, are you praying?
jGood news. they are badly needed.
Tremendous news. now our sloughs will be able to survive, and possibly thrive. they are a vital part of our Pajaro Valley ecosystem. the wildlife depend on them for food and habitat. they are the signarure attraction for tourists. they make the Pajaro Valley the uniquely beautfiul place that it is.
all good news. PVUSD is moving forward.
Calavera is a real tribute to the community. i am hoping they will submit their works to PBS and other networks that can give them more exposure. great work !!!!!
REI makes the best outdoor gear made. so glad that building, which has sat empty for years, will now be filled by a retailer with a sterling reputation.
“creating unnecessary division in the community.”
Could the ‘divider’ be named Steve?
Nice shirt, btw.
at long last. and I am glad the field will NOT damage the wetlands that are adjacent to it.
if the senate approves it, the Covid 19 rescue package passed by the house of reps will help even more. no thanks to the Rethuglicans and their lack of interest in the people’s needs.
I am one of those who recovered a year ago, when Covid 19 had not yet been widely recognized in California, I thank asst. city manager Tamara Vides for returning my call to the Watsonville senior center and arranging my first vaccination last Saturday. my next one is in March.
clearly, the city of Watsonivllle cared about my well being , much more than indignity health ever did. they ignored me in Februrary 2020. i have since fired them and my doctor . i have new Medicare coverage with a new doctor and a prominent local health care provider. a much improved situation. thank you city of Watsonville. i made the right choice to move here 6 years ago.
What about the stabbing out front of Starbucks at the Target Center a few days ago? Any connection/ So much happens in this town at night and we never hear anything about it..
one more to add to the drive by shooting list. clearly, the individual doing this is willing to shoot at people in broad daylight. he is a reckless, murderous fool. where are all the WPD snitches ? one of them will be able to provide info about who is doing this.
WPD snitches? and this idiot Steve Fundillo represents Cabrillo. You sound really uneducated. You trying to be a Homie now?
for your information, thumbs, i worked as a teacher in a state prison from 1981-83. i learned more about gang culture than i ever knew. unlike you, i HAVE an education. unlike you, I PROMOTE education. i dont have to pretend to be a homie or anything else. and yes, all police departments have snitches. WPD is no exception. they may not admit it, but community informants help solve crimes.
so do RING doorbells, one of the newer crime fighting weapons that police departments encourage. a force of 75-80 officers cannot be expected to be everywhere all the time. the WPD depends on residents to REPORT to them when they see something. see something, say something. the term “snitch” has existed for decades. it does not belong to any one group in the city of Watsonville. and yes, the expression “snitches get stitches ” is a criminal threat of bodily violence that police departments take seriously. you dont have to work for a PD to know that.
thumbs, you know nothing about my life in southern ca ( prior to 1980) or my childhood. i dont speculate as to yours. please dont ASSume you know mine.
and, by the way, I represent myself for who I am: STEVE TRUJILLO. your real name is not thumbs down. why do you use a childish pseudonym to represent yourself ? could it be you are too ashamed of your ridiculous comments on the Pajaronian to admit who you really are ?
and my name is not Fundillo, it is Trujillo. and i am proud of my last name. what about you, thumbs ?
The Porter buidling is ideal for the Watsonville arts community. it is in the heart of downtown. we have many artists who would be able to use it. it would showcase the Pajaro Arts council. lets make it happen.
Sounds like poor management of the vaccine distribution… but go head keep on giving it to undocumented aliens while our loved elderly die from the rona- shouldn’t our 65yo+ should of been guaranteed two doses first?
Yes. It should have been age from the get go. Since I will be in the last group, I’m starting to wonder if its even necessary.
Yes sir- the Health Officials screwed up- from the data I’ve gathered those 65 and older are the ones that get hit with it the hardest, so people 65+ should of been given those 2 doses guaranteed by now..
As far as the you needing the the Rona Vaccine- no, not necessary. I compare it to toilet paper… toilet paper is not necessary to take a crap, but it sure helps!
Ah, we’ll have achieved herd immunity by then. So that would be like a bidet ?
let us hope that by NEXT Tuesday we quality for the red tier. we wont shed any tears for the purple tier departure.
is it perfect ? no. it is ideal ? certainly not. but it will house 90 people in temporary housing . we need it. and HOUSING MATTERS is to be gratefully thanked for its efforts to bring shelter to 90 people who dont have any.
we love the moveable murals exhibit. this is what Watsonvllle needs. what we dont need is more fast food drive throughs.
all good news, Nick. we need to restore Ramsay park to its former robust self, and do diligence in the cleanup of trash on its site. i did just that 3 weekends ago. what a mess !!!
OMG, another episode of cleaning-up-the-trash with Steve “I did just that 3 weekends ago”
just look at that photo above(thank you , CALTRANS). the fact no one was killed when it slid into the Pacific Ocean is a miracle. and it will do it AGAIN. mother nature just laughs at us when we rebuild highway 1. she has the final say . there is only so much moisture the soil can hold before the law of gravity wins out.
Ashlyn and Deanna are correct. LGBT residents often live on the margins and find themselves subject to homelessness. The Diversity center serves the entire county. i am proud to have our mayor, Jimmy Dutra, on the board of directors. I was proud to serve on the board of directors from 2003-2006. Despite the occasional hatred against us on this site, we support our LGBT community and we thank our straight allies for their support as well. I am proud to serve on the 60+ steering committee of the Diversity Center.
I will continue to serve the LGBT community , as well as all my constituents, while serving as an elected member of the Cabrillo college board of trustees.
“Hate”? What a hateful word you like to fling around.
Our Judeo-Christian god prefers ‘abomination’ when he
refers to homosexuality. I can go with that. (He even wants to kill you folks, but I think that’s a little extreme.)
We have a couple of Judeo-Christian parsons here, perhaps they have opinions on their god’s choice of words.

It is truly wonderful to have a POTUS that shows leadership, empathy, compassion and works diligently to get everyone vaccinated against Covid 19. The difference between the current occupant of the White House and the last occupant of the White House is like night and day.
God bless President Biden.
You got that right it’s like night & day, look at all the crime and shootings going on now it’s way up, from letting in all these illegals to closing down certain prisons, what the hell did people think was going to happen? Creepy joe is the real fascist/dictator. Yes it’s wonderful if that’s what u want Steve Hussain.
Don’t forget unemployment!
more Trumpdump denial . the rise in cime, rise in unemployment, rise in shootings, all stem from a failed, psycho POTUS during his time in office. Joe is not creepy; he has the qualities this nation needs right now. and yes, certain prisons that were created to lock up people seeking asylum in the USA have been closed. good riddance ! clearly, you dont know the meaning of fascism or a what it means to be a dictator. that is what trump was. and March 4 is NOT gonna bring him back, no matter what your buddies in Qanon say.
Again, I am Steve Trujillo. i am proud of my heritage and my identity. you clearly are not. you hide behind your childish pseudonym. that is what people do when they cant tell the public who they really are.
thank you METRO.
May Zeus be with you people in your quest for acceptance.
Hmm
Poor Teacher… The PVSUD is horrible- too many politics
Ranger, Thank You for six years of service!
Well, everyone knows…if there’s a Starbucks….there’s a bicycle repair business a stone’s throw away…SMH ! Throw the baby out with the bathwater why don’t ya.
Well, everyone knows…if there’s a Starbucks….there’s a bicycle repair business a stone’s throw away…SMH ! Throw the baby out with the bathwater why don’t ya.
Thanks Gov Newsom. Can’t wait to vote NO on the recall election. PS *uck the GOP liars.
he should never have access to a gun again.
bla, bla, bla…..
I am sorry Tarmo is gone. i only knew him for a few years, but his contributions to Watsonville are legion. i enjoyed reading his column and his photos in the Pajaronian. i hope Editor Nunez and his staff will have an appropriate event in his honor.
I can’t believe idiots voted for this Clown steve hussain trujillo. Instead of condolences of an important person of Watsonville that passed away he has this to say about a person who commited a d.u.i. that resulted in injuries.
i expressed my condolences above. i was honored he took my photo when i won my award from the Diversity Center in 2019. i think I made it clear my tribute was to HIM. maybe you need new glasses. and , for the record, my name is Steven LAIRD Trujillo.
if convicted, Pilgreen should never be allowed to drive again.
thank you , Governor Newsome. Watsonville has a huge number of Covid 19 cases and resulting deaths . it deserves the extra attention of the state.
Candidly, I think district 7 would have been better to reelect Lupe Rivas to that seat in November 2016. I campaigned for her and had her sign in my front yard. I am glad I did. The fact that Acosta ran unopposed last year did NOT do the residents of district 7 any favors.
We really, really, care. https://media1.giphy.com/media/xULW8tCHPkr54CgtCU/giphy.gif
Absolutely ridiculous article. Show proof or paystubs women get paid less. Stop with this white people get paid more nonsense, we are not victims of whiteness. You’re supposed to be a uniter not divider Mrs.Dutra
nicely written, Jennifers. I am hopeful PVUSD will get as much money for reopening as possible. every single student, employee and visitor needs to feel safe from infection while at ANY of the PVUSD sites.
By adding a charter school on Main stree with 200 students, downtown Watsonville will see major impact. Many more children in that area of town needs services. the school may not be able to provide them. traffic will increase. all the more reason for major traffic slowing and calming efforts by the city.
The GW bust is better off in the library. Both the Revvoluna and Solano camps were taking an extreme viewpoint. I am glad that both the Parks and Rec commission and the City council agreed to my proposed compromise. GW will have a bilingual plaque that gives a fairer view of who GW was; neither a saint nor Satan. And as a six year resident of Watsonville, this proves you dont have to be born and raised here to find an acceptable solution to a highly emotional issue.
let us remember that as we seek a new name for our community college.
Cabrillo trustees, are you following this nincompoop named Steve, and his candid thoughts? Be warned, you’re in his cross-hairs.
send him back to the state where he violated probation. we dont want him here.
bla..bla…bla…
We don’t want you in Watsonville either Steve. Go back to SoCal you traitor.
clearly, the concern is about wastewater and solid waste. solid waste is number one because the only landfill site is in Marina, and it will close in a few years. that is why recycling of metal and glass is so important. thank you R and S metals on Beach street.
we HAVE to leave plastic behind, it is killing our oceans, trashing our parks and roadways and leaking into our bodies. our sea creatures are choking on it. so are our birds. we are the PAJARO (bird) valley.
so it will get more expensive to figure out what to do with our trash. and we need to impose heavy fines for those who dump on public property or dump on other people’s private property.
bla…bla…bla…
too bad you cant add any insight to this conversation.
The Boardwalk badly needs revenue. so does the county of Samta Cruz. this is good news.
Soon many residents won’t be able to afford water, garbage or sewer services. Many residents are on fixed incomes. Watsonville has jacked up our costs every year and continues to do so while incomes aren’t getting any higher or rising at the same percentage the water bill is.
My income is basically the same as it was 10 years ago and I know many other seniors are in the same boat. Speak out my fellow seniors.
I agree.
I bet you do, use to be pooba69 lady
Affordable housing won’t matter if you can’t afford the utilities
you are right, Sofia. unless rental costs for low income housing include utilities, it will be difficult for low income residents to afford the housing.
i support cutting the tax rate on cannabis to 5 percent.
So do I. I think it actually should be taxed the same as any thing sold that is taxed.
As someone who worked in special education with students with moderate to severe disabilities, the classes were under the jurisidction of the Santa Clara county office of education, not the local school district i would recommend the students with severe disabilities be taught by the county office of education of Santa Cruz county .
Steve, a serious question: Why has your career been limited to convicts and kids with severe disabilities. I can’t believe you’ve helped turn ‘the tide’. How many of them got to college? Or, were you just babysitting?
Dave, ever notice how you keep stalking Steve?
He’s not interested in you. Move on with your life.
Have I noticed?
You make me laugh, Susan. Of course I notice each and every time I remind him of his assholiness. My role here is to needle that misfit when his egomania gets out of hand.
Speaking of the Salton Sea, did you have a chance to check out Slab City, the very heart of that beach paradise? A name change might help with the image problem, tho.
Now, go tend to your knitting.
as my second Covid vaccination is March 20, i am delighted to hear this news.
“We can’t have a class with four students”
“…If You Build It, They Will Come (Genesis 6-7, Hebrews 11:7)”
Then, in about six months time they will have trashed the place and you will have to fling their skeevy asses out. and start all over again. But, not to worry, there are plenty of other skeevy people out there, and it costs you nada, except taxes.
“In all, the plans are expected to cost $65 million annually”, so saith Todd.
(Chump change for us Watsonvillagers.)
Unless we’re willing to apply “tough love” in requiring drug/alcohol -abstinence/rehabiltation, the program will be a waste of time and money,
I think a lot of the homeless would rather spend their money on drugs than on rent.
Heck. They are even given free needles to inject themselves with drugs.
I wonder if he’s a vegetarian.
They are in one of the most expensive places in the country, so we should build them housing. It’s only fair. Meanwhile, as I was passing through Barstow recently, I couldn’t help but notice the abandoned houses on the outskirts of town. Also, check out the abandoned tracts and towns on Youtube sometime. Or, let the state bring back the state hospitals. Construct them next to the state prisons and link them up to the prison administrations which are already in operation. A good way to save money and to increase the quality of life for law abiding citizens.
So much for “democracy”.
GW will remain in the library, safe from vandalism and graffiti. the library is now open to the public again. yes, that is democracy. it was my proposal and both the parks and rec commission and the city council accepted it.
you could have made a proposal, rainbelt. but hiding behind a silly pseudonym , however, removes your credibility. live and learn.
So, if Watsonville’s rates are half the cost of other jurisdictions, then they should be brought up to the higher level in the name of “equity”. “It’s only fair.”
“Dutra said. “So we’re basically paying for them to be here.”” What a ridiculous statement.
I think Girl Scouts and Brownies are the coolest people in the world. Bless you, Alicia and your troop.
The claims made above are based on selective data. Rail trips cost more because they’re usually for longer distances. Many communities like San Diego County use a unified pass, all fares alike.
Rail projects don’t take money away from bus projects, they come from different program grants, Caltrans has a dedicated budget for us. Finally, rail and bus work together to create a network and Metro will actually see increased funding, ridership, and revenue by providing shuttles integrated with our modern reliable clean rail transit backbone!
Check out the streetcar demo coming at the end of summer: http://www.coastfutura.org https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/81743bef2b90c177612c5f35662f47e77880a4d1b195bb11937187e88302d0dc.jpg
Ese guey Biden y tony valen V@#%A
el pendejo trump fue la razon para este ley.
Eat your heart out.
Que dijistes?
Thank you, Pajaronian and Tony Nuñez for sharing this exciting news! This expansion of the trail network will connect to the amazing Coastal Rail Trail permitting students, teachers, and other safe access to downtown and to other points along the 32 mile Coastal Trail.
Credit to the City Council, Murray Fonts, City and County planners, PVUSD, Ecology Action, Caltrans, and the Land Trust for the collaborative efforts to bring this to fruition.
Love this wokely coined term “latinx”. Must be Spanglish for Dummies.
No comprende.
16 less killer guns that wont be on the streets of our county. thank you Santa Cruz sheriffs !
bla…bla…bla…
yes, Barry, this is exciting news. another route for PV high students to get safely to school.
i cant find my girl scout cookies anywhere. please come to Pajaro village and i will buy 3 boxes.
There up your Tucas, have you checked in there?
the anti Asian violence is beyond reprehensible. and we need to remember that trumpdump INSISTED upon naming Covid 19 “the China virus”. ignorance, superstition, religious bigotry all breed this poison. We must be ever vigilant.
gracias al Presidente Biden y las Democratas en el Congreso. los dolares van a prevenir mas DOLORES porque de la pobreza que occurio del virus Covid 19.
They will price low income and seniors on fixed incomes out of being able to pay for their water bills.
The pot charges are going to be a walk in the park in comparison to the Ghost gun charges.
Never refuse a Girl Scout. Bad ju ju.
Never refuse a Girl Scout. Bad ju ju.
Just tried to set up my old neighbor with OPTUMserve so he can get his covid19 vaccination… he is over 75- and a farm worker.. the optumserve says there’s no vaccines available…
Meanwhile there’s an article saying that Watsonville utilities are going up around $40 bucks… geez.
I don’t know if I agree or disagree with this since it’s not in America’s language. Toñez, can you sign it? https://media3.giphy.com/media/8r3q044kdf7RS/giphy-downsized-medium.gif
We should not bail out cities and states with a bad budget. If our leaders cannot keep a budget then fire them!
Am I living in a dream world? NOBODY here needs to go without food. Beyond food stamps and the Food Bank there are several groups searching for – and not finding – recipients.
There are people who are even asking Food Bank to stop sending them food, because much of it goes in the garbage. Enough of this woe is me crap.
Let them eat cake (or buy Girl Scout cookies).
Todd, why do you and the other writers/editors only write about how much trouble we are in? Do you ever talk to the artichoke, brussels sprouts, strawberry and apple people? Or do you specialize in the doomsday shit?
Three others also voted to fire the superintendent. Why aren’t they being discussed? Why did 4 vote to fire superintendent and why aren’t the reasons public?
Somebody please explain to me how are we going to pay for this? We can’t even balance our city budget, yet we are talking about spending more money.
‘Uppityness shall not go unpunished’, so saith the Board.
Mayor Jimmy is correct.we must never forget this terrible pandemic and what it cost us.
the American rescue plan was NOT supported by even one RETHUGLICAN in either house of Congress. Remember that when you vote.
unlike the recall effort against Newsome, this one has merit.
It appears our resident shit-disturber has yet another insidious victory – as always to the detriment of Watsonville.
I’ve got the pole if you’ve got the tar and the feathers.
How about this, Peter? You and I take it down to Pajaro Village and wrap it around Steve’s place? Surmounted by concertina wire, of course.
That should keep him out of mischief for a while.
if the Porter building could house PV arts council and provide low rent lofts for Watsonville artists, then the Porter building could serve both purposes.
You should ask Mr Pulcrano, ‘will that pay the mortgage and the bills?’
i got the Covid 19 vaccination due to the senior center. thank you. call the senior center phone number and leave a message with your name, your age, your address in Watsonville and your phone number. 724-2606
thank you, mr. Aranda , for your generosity of time, spirit and compassion for replacing this lovely work of art. you help make Watsonville a great place to live.
very grateful that this violent , insane individual will not be paroled.
we need to replace all METRO busses with this one. we must reduce our carbon footprint. another step into the carbon neutral future.
Lol you are clueless buddy and dumber than a box of rocks… how do you plan on charging those batteries? And what’s your plan to dispose of batteries once they no longer hold a charge?
794 students gone will make it easier to make PVUSD schools safe for students, teachers and school employees to return to on site learning, BUT: it means a loss of ADA revenue. schools are paid by the state for every student being in class every day. when students check out of school, the amount the school receives from the state drops.
some of the students will head to private schools, but many have left the area because rents are just too high to be affordable.
the only way to bring back students is for the economy to improve, good paying jobs to be created here and to build MORE LOW COST HOUSING.
i proposed this idea when i ran for city council in 2018: we need a fresh food festival during the summer held at the county fairgrounds in mid summer. it needs to CELEBRATE all the lovely, healthy food our county grows, the cable TV food networks need to be invited to create programming, Chef Emerile Lagasse needs to make a week long appearance to help us get ready for his demonstration cooking school at Starlite elementary and the city council needs to appear at the celebration. Mayor Dutra and the city council need to show off their healthy food cooking skills, what a hoot !
the old saying is: dont hide your light under a bushel. well, our little light that we should shine is many decades of delicious, healthy food crops in production. yes, MILLIONS of bushels that have been produced here since the 1800’s. we DESERVE national recognition for this. the Gizdich, Mann, Prevardelli, Martinelli and so many other farms have brought this blessing to the Pajaro Valley. LET US SHOW THE REST OF THE WORLD HOW IT IS DONE !
and the RETHUGLICANS in congress did not have the courage to do that to trumpdump. i hope the school board will have display more courage.
Susan, may I comment on this?
Now make sure Kemper is never released, if he’s still alive. I remember being very scared when both of these men were loose, murdering locals.
As a close neighbor to the temple I want to thank them for their regular trash pickups on the levee and in the neighborhood. i do it every day and I notice what a difference it makes. that is why the neighborhood looks clean and beautiful. thank you, Rev. Shinseki and congregation. I am so glad you are MY neighbors !!!
thank you John.
wonderful news. we hope to be back in the realm of no more tiers( or tears) really soon.
I want to thank Rev, Shinseki for his consistent support of the GLBT community. and also ( as i have noted in another news item today) , his support at keeping our neighborhood trash free.
I am proud to call you and your congregation my neighbors !!
and those who post here using fake names have no courage at atl. they are to be ignored.
LOL! that’s your argument.
Stevan is such a Karen!
people who have credibility and integrity are NOT afraid to speak their mind and identity themselves by their real identity. those of you who cant, or wont, dont have any. if you have not figured that out by now , being an “adult” (at least in age), you are pathetic.
once more, thumbs down, you show your true , chauvinist self. women are paid less than 80 cents on the dollar that men are paid. and yy es, male white privilege is a FACT. i know: i saw it in the various school districts i worked in over a period of 36 years. white men were ALWAYS at the top of the pay scale, no matter how many years others worked, no matter how many college degrees women had. and it was true for PVUSD as well.
and clearly, if anyone has gender confusion, it is YOU.
YOU are the divider. YOU promote hate. YOU cant even tell people who you really are. YOU use a childish stupid name in which to hide your true identity. you cannot even stand up for what you believe and attach your name to it. WHY ? because you are ASHAMED.
Didn’t I say- why not repaint it and you Stevan said ooh it can’t be done
Am I color blind? More then half of the incidents on video I see are caused by black males from Oakland, San Francisco, New York to San Jose, but once again it all caused by white supremacist the crazy left excuse, the shootings in Atlanta was from a sex addiction that’s what the shooter said but nope the crazy leftist is all about racial divide. And yes I know Steve Hussain Trujillo trumptard this and that same ol stuff.
again, my name is Steven LAIRD Trujillo. six of the 8 people killed in Atlanta last week were Asian. it was a hate crime against Asian women. no, sadly, you are not color bllind. you are just a bigot that most people IGNORE.
There is no better way to spend over a million dollars, who cares about students in need or programs being cut at Cabrillo, it’s all about the name change, Am I correct Steve?
Hopefully the Eurocentric donors will cut off their Eurocentric donations if this mob inspired slander comes to pass.
Hope they will cut them off they will feel it, I am a Cabrillo alumni but these crazy leftist are ruining everything, I am glad I am not like them, they are the cause of this racial divide going on.
you are a racist, a homophobe, a religious bigot and a misogynist. your comments about mrs. Dutra , our mayor, are just another example of your spewing of hated.
Anything else you want to add sunshine? I cannot be racist my best friend is White.
He was referring to the mayor, Miss Dutra.
clearly , you have problems with sexual identity. the mayor does not ,
Hee,hee!
your previous comments speak for themselves. i know racism when i hear it , see it and experience it.
You’re a crazy leftist, everything you dont agree with is racist or homophobe.
Both sides of politics are ruining the country by dividing us further.
In regard to the name change, who REALLY cares? The name change will cost A LOT more than a million dollars once you factor in ALL of the hours it will take employees to change everything. At a time when the college is facing budget shortfalls, the time for this is not now.
Mr Thumbs Down, the college has actually been doing a great job taking care of students with emergency grants. What program cuts are you referring to that are not COVID related?
the time is NOW. read about our financial situation . do you also not know about GO FUND ME ? people of color, women, LGBT people have had to put up with white , straight , European- based male domination LONG ENOUGH. yes, Cabrillo was a white European straight male who felt he could do no wrong.
Cuts of years past. Look them up.
well, you would be wrong. the donors are willing to be educated as to the past, and simply want our community college to do what it is intended to do. EDUCATE THE PUBLIC. and no one needs that more than you do.
the community , including me, will help raise the money needed. and as far as the Cabrillo budget is concerned, we are getting extra financial help from both Governor Newsome and President Biden. if you read the real news, not Fux, or newssmack, you would know.
Be afraid…be very afraid.
Who are these recently arrived lefties around here who think there is an anti Asian situation in this county? Local Asians are well established and well respected here, and they’ve been involved in farming, and real estate for generations. They’ve served in the USMC with me, despite the fact that their parents were relocated to Manzanar, by Dummocrats! And then there are my Vietnamese friends in Moss Landing who are providing us all with fresh fish on a regular basis. They came here to get away from Commies and to earn an honest living. Divisive racialists can stuff it, as far as I’m concerned. Please go away.
i have lived in this county for 23 years. i am NOT a recently arrived lefty. i served on the Santa Cruz city school board from 2010 to 2014. no, I am not Asian, but I hear what Cabrillo staff and students, who are Asian, say. enough is enough. Federal legislation is needed for any gun purchase. Assault rifles are used to kill people only. they must be banned.
and no, rain belt, none of us are going away. get used to it.
You’re not in the picture, Deldoe.
Old man control yourself
Or you may get a heart attack… You don’t even know what an assault rifle is. Look at our Neighbor to the south- all guns are prohibited and it hasn’t stopped bad hombres from having guns…
Banning the 2nd will only stop most law abiding citizens from owning any type of gun.
I think only 3% of polled people favored Cabrillo’s name change.
We’re judging a person that lived, wha,t 4-500 years ago by todays standards??
Could you imagine if you or I went back in time, how we would be judged by societies standards then???
Unfortunately, Cabrillo’s leadership is obsessed with race mongering and basic education needs of the community is a distance second.
Polls and petitions don’t matter to the mobsters who are always shouting “democracy”. Look what happened to the GW statue in Watsonville.
I was proud to offer the compromise solution that both the parks and rec commission and the city council voted in favor. my proposal was endorsed by council member Paco Estrada months before.
and they are not mobsters. that term might better be applied to some of those who post using phony names on the Pajaronian.
read what i wrote above and try to get educated.
Is in-fighting and factions productive ?
the board has the right to do this. how is it productive ? a reasonable question. here is how:
1. the debate over censure will establish some firm and clear guidelines as to what a superintendent can be dismissed quickly.
2. the debate over censure will establish behavioral norms for both the superintendent and board members.
3. the debate over censure will establish the fact that only ONE employee is employed by the board in any school district in CA : THE SUPERINTENDENT.
4. the debate over censure will clear the air among the trustees, as ALL will have their say.
5. This is a public institution. opinions differ. trustees bring their own life experiences to the table . they were elected by their constituents. in a democracy, trustees are not automatons, robots, slaves to any one person, or muzzled.
you are an adult. you should have learned this long ago.
how do I know this? i served on the Santa Cruz city board of trustees from 2010-2014.
Young lady seems to have a great big chip on her shoulder. Ironic her parents should have named her Joy.
In the first place, it was a survey. only a handful of our city’s population responded. IT WAS NOT AN ELECTION. Second, race mongering is what we lived through the TRUMPDUMP years. he is at least partly responsible for anti Asian bigotry and hared, it manifested itself in the killings in Atlanta a week ago.
JUAN RODRIGUEZ CABRILLO helped to nearly wipe out and cancel the culture of the OHLONE, who were already established here in the 1540’s. Read what the website BIOGRAPHY has to say about him . and then read some others. they agree. Cabrillo’s arrival helped end the lives of many OHLONE, use the women and girls as sexual objects for his men, and forced the men to build ships for his glory and the KING OF SPAIN. For those of you who say they learned a skill, I might add they did not learn them voluntarily, nor did they use those skills to build ships, sail to Europe , invade them and try to convert them to their religion. pure and simple , that is ENSLAVEMENT.
I thank our campus president Matt Wetstein for releasing the statement.
as for those who post below, they consistently demean people of color, women, LGBT people in their desire to demonize anyone who is not a straight white male. and they LOVE to attack me.
that strategy used to work in days past in Watsonville. NOT ANY MORE!
I am proud to advocate for a better name for our community college.
She stated she knew with “certainty” that Cabrillo never set foot in Santa Cruz county.
A community college should be named for someone in the community, past or present. Iris made my case for me. Let us go forward this year in the process set up by the board of trustees (of which I am one) to find a better choice for our community college.
to add a note of exclusion, instead of inclusion, Iris said that ONE reporter from a local newspaper promulgated the name Cabrillo in 1960 to the newly elected board of trustees for the name of the college. how was that inclusive? no one in the community was included.
IT WILL NOT BE THAT WAY THIS TIME.
Only a handfull of people responded?
Is it possible, just possible, only a tiny minority care about a name change?
What a great country we live in that we have don’t have big issues like crumbling infrastructure, water, employment, housing, transportation, etc, that we can focus on issues like trying to rename the streets, buildings, etc….
Well, if we just gotta change the name , how about “Robert Swensen College”?
He worked tirelessly to establish Cabrillo, served as president for years and years and on a paltry teachers salary. Oh, but what am I thinking….. He was white…..
it was sent out to a handful of people. many in my neighborhood of Pajaro Village did not receive the survey, Neither did i. a scatter shot survey is NOT an election.
as far as your suggestion, Robert Swenson community college, I would be happy to learn more about him and what he did for Cabrillo. thank you for coming up with a name we should consider. his skin color is IRRELEVANT. his character is.
I hope it gets decades of use. so good to see it open.
She deserves respect. You, Dave, clearly don’t know her. She’s a mother of 3, grandmother of 1 and to minimize her experience by calling her a young lady perpetuates the problem and issues raised in this article.
Dave is not credible. nor is he a resident of Watsonville.
i spoke up on her behalf at last night’s city council meeting. our city government still clings to the belief that only people born here, schooled here and spent all their lives here know what is best for Watsonville. that is provincial, nativist garbage.
i have lived here just over 6 years. i have , without the city manager’s approval, sought to make Watsonville a better place to live, i hope to make Cabrillo college a better place to get educated.
people who have lived elsewhere bring a VARIETY of experiences that those who have live here their entire lives SIMPLY DONT HAVE. i know how other cities in CA respond to challenges and issues that present dilemmas to city government.
so does JOY. I thank her for her service and wish her well. as to OUR city government, it is not about JUST US. it is about justice; the justice that a diversity of opinion and life experience OUTSIDE of Watsonville can bring.
Get educated. Joy was raised here and schooled here. Can’t say the same for you.
The one-eyed trouser mouse speaks. Steve, you don’t consider Pajaro Dunes a part of Watsonville? My corporation has a summer place there and when I am there, often, I think of myself as a Watsonvillager. Or is this just another of your anti-anglo slams?
You’re right, CD, if she’s an old broad, then I didn’t show respect. Now I’ll just have to wait till she earns it.
BTW, what’s that goofy-ass flag you’re waving?
I think the name Cabrillo ties into the Spanish heredity of South America quite well. I guess you could deny that too.
Our community leaders need to make sure these houses are going to LOCAL families and not transplants from the bay area.
Watsonville residents (for 5+ years), then displaced folks from CZU fire, then the rest of the county residents (10+ years), and THEN, if anything is left over, out of county folks.
The bay area already screwed up our housing market as it is, let’s keep the rest of them out!
I completely agree.
Time to hook up to the State Water Project.
When is the RP going to stop reposting other articles from other papers and write their own?
Most excellent question, Amargado. I think they are a little bit short-handed now that Steve has queered the purchase deal. Dan’s probably trying to save a buck or two.
Deport him!
The Sunshine Gardens project is, and has been from the start, and EB-5 scam. The whole point is to soak its investors from China, with no incentive to ever finish. Our City Manager should explain these “significant challenges” with this project. (Other than incompetence.)
I’m surprised she showed up for her censure meeting. Normally, you would abstain from voting when you have a conflict of interest in the vote, she didn’t.
Seems to me that she is unfit to fulfill her duties and obligations to her district. Bye, bye!
This is awesome! The SINGLE sidewalk on that overpass is tiny and the bike lane is pretty much non-existent. With the driving habits of the Watsonville community (really, really, bad), I hope this extends from the Motel 6 area, ALLLLL the way to the school, and not just jump the freeway.
so true. this pedestrian overpass was needed 20 years ago.
I am hopeful there will be candidates to run against Acosta if there is a recall election. I will NOT be one of them, as I am happy to be an elected member of the Cabrillo college board of trustees.
LOL!
And when your fellow trustees fling you off the board, will you reconsider?
Andale, Mariachis ! si se pueden !
this is the future , fellow residents. thank you Granite for buying into the project.
Steve gets it: Rocks absorb the sun’s rays
I wish to point out that my views below are MY OWN. they dont speak for the board of trustees, the president of the college , or anyone else. and as the Pajaronian permits, I will continue to speak AS AN INDIVIDUAL on this website on any issue that appears here, as I wish. thank you for reading them. if nothing else, i hope to get you to think.
Much better idea than connecting PVHS to the Coastal Rail-Trail to nowhere.
this is why we need more than one social worker on duty at the WPD 24/7.
Graniterock and Granite Construction are two different entities.
highway 1 in santa cruz? that’s kind of vague
Looks to be southbound, right in the neighborhood of the Morrissey exit gore point.
Being “eligible” is one thing, actually getting it is another, at least in this county.
Great news for softball!!! But don’t forget, they still need a field for boys baseball!!!
Thank you Judy Since the feverish anti Washington supporters got the beautiful bust of George removed from our plaza since he was a slave owner, and same feverish people are trying to get Cabrillo College name changed due to claims Cabrillo was cruel and killed people, why are the murderous Mayan and Aztec being honored. They murdered so many people it’s nuts. Either put old George back and stop with attacking Cabrillo, or stop with the murals of murderers. We have to have equal treatment of all our historical murderers and slavers and the Mayan and Aztec culture had slaves and mistreated them. Fair is fair.
Agreed! You can’t cancel culture one thing and embrace the same thing you cancelled from another culture.
It’s history. You learn from it, grow, and strive to be better.
Stop being a bunch of snowflakes and trying to cancel everything. You are furthering the agenda of keeping everyone divided, instead of focusing our attention on corrupt politicians and billionaires.

I do agree Acosta must go. She has failed voters who supported her and the school district. Get someone who actually cares.
Tarmo, get over yourself. Characterizing the Atlanta massacre as an expression of racism is dead wrong. The guy was offended by his sex addiction and chose this as a way to fix himself and ‘the industry’ of whores.
Further, this ‘slap an Asian’ phenomenon happening in SF, Oakland and NY is simply a case of large African-American males viewing elderly Asian-American females as easy prey. Point your anger and frustration where it belongs: Large African-American males.
I knew I wasn’t color blind.
Ooh he can’t say this- because he will be seen as a racist… but I agree with you- why can’t he say blacks stop slapping old women…
Tarmo be a true reporter and investigate on the Covid Vaccine B.S. – elegible va being able to get one…
So agree! It’s complete b.s how the county is managing this vaccine. Tried the OPTUMserve and there’s not appointments- just called the Watsonville County Health Center and they said they are only taking “their patients”. Please note I’ve been trying to get an appointment for my 75 year old neighbor for over a month and no luck. Yet the undocumented farm workers received one.. and they in their 20s.
Tony can you look into this?
Let us know if you hear from Tony. He gets quiet at times like this.
So he failed to stop where the traffic backs up always at the bottle neck. Heck…he didn’t even slow. He was asleep at the wheel. Oh, maybe the delay in getting to a trauma center after the full tour ?
“I encourage folks to join in, rise up and get involved. Together we can put an end to this behavior.”
No Tarmo, we can’t. Not as long as we don’t have a clear understanding of who the enemy is we will be pissing in the wind. It’s not some lone sex-obsessed dingbat trying to get right with jesus by wiping out the whores who pleasured him earlier. Our enemy is the thug who bitch-slaps old Asian ladies just because they’re there and vulnerable. But of course, you already know that,
i would suggest , Judy, that you look at Cabrillo’s life if you want to see cruelty, enslavement and barbarism. there are many websites that address this. try BIOGRAPHY. and i should point out that no cruelty was worse than the INQUISITION, inflicted on any one daring not to be Catholic in 15th century Spain., Cabrillo brought that philosophy to CA. talk about cancel culture ! Europe “explorers “did everything they could to cancel the indigenous cultures of the western hemisphere, including the OHLONE right here on the central coast. they were not explorers; they were ruthless , brutal criminals . So much for your assertion, Judy, that Europeans who came here were benign . THEY WERE NOT. Do some reading. I speak for myself here, and only me. but many agree with me, including many historians.
in addition, Judy, GW was no saint, but not the devil, either. he was a flawed human being who helped promote extermination of all indigenous people on the North American continent. sorry if that does not match what you may have learned many years in school, but IT IS A FACT.
do some reading.
Duly noted comment from the peanut gallery. The Mayan and Aztec culture were all about slaves and murder but hey, go ahead attacking our first Great President George Washington. You can’t have it both ways. You are very selective in who you attack ignoring the most blood thirsty civilizations while you attack old George Washington and Cabrillo. Mayan and Aztec were all about slaves, rape and murder. but go ahead you has been whiney byotch.
In this peculiar world everybody’s a victim. Reparations for all.
I hope – I’m sure, along with Steve – that this virtual walk makes homelessness and it’s victims, virtually go away.

Deport his ass!
Isn’t this a homeless camp?
We can only assume the cause couldn’t be determined (or reported).
superb members of our community. all deserving their recognition. credit unions are much more supportive of the community than banks.
the GW statue will be moved to the library, where it will serve as a learning tool for our residents. and yes, that will make some people uncomfortable. not me.
Yet you hold Cesar Chavez in high regard even though he abused his own people. You must be comfortable with that too.
Don’t forget he was against illegal immigration!
Man these dudes here all happy they got a Cesar Chavez award. No offense to y’all but you don’t like it go south of border. But that’s just my .02
thank you Chief Honda for your years of service. enjoy your retirement.
When are you going to do the same Stevan?
I worry, is this a cultural thing?
I’m a little upset that our own shit-disturber wasn’t nominated. Just last year he was a hero to the LBSMSQ+? crowd, and now he’s a nobody?
Time to buy a 90’s hummer to drive around Santa Cruz County. Worst drivers in the US!
shop here. this is the best supermarket food in Watsonville.
The County does not have the money to build, or even sustain a project like this. This would be a waste of a half billion dollars.
People are selfish. They would much rather drive their own car than sit on a train. There is no possible way that rider fairs would sustain the cost of the train, not to mention that Metro would take a hit in usage as well.
This route is also absolute garbage to even sustain students traveling from Watsonville to the colleges. Without a pedestrian bridge over 1, it will take students 30 minutes to walk from either stop to Cabrillo College. Same with UCSC.
To the folks who voted no, THANK YOU. To those that voted yes, get your heads out of rear ends.
Finally had a chance to visit the store this morning. It’s beautiful inside! The produce section looked amazing and the selections on everything else was great!
Yes it is pricey, but you get what you pay for and the prices are pretty comparable to Nob Hill.
Don’t ever forget that the C of C gives money to the state C of C which in turn gives money to the National C of C which in turn gives money to the GOP and supports their insurrectionists who voted to overturn our sacred elections. I will not spend one cent at any business who is a member of the C of C until they stop funding GOP insurrectionists who are serving in Congress or the GOP party that also supported overturning our 2020 election. Not one red cent.
How about $0 of that ARP goes towards increasing salaries and goes towards parks & rec and infrastructure.
I get that Watsonville is also behind on housing too, but as the Director stated, we aint got no land. Want to build more houses? Incorporate parks into the development or GTFO. The amount of housing vs parks that has gone in over the past 10 years has only made this deficit worse. Stop catering to the builder’s max profits.
I’m all for another property tax hike, ONLY if its 100% for parks and rec.
In the meantime, City Council, stop acting like you don’t know how it happened, when you are the ones that approved it.
This business plan includes a lot of goodness, new lighter and more affordable technologies are described, and alternative funding plans like a public private partnership are, too.
The estimates of between $465 million and $478 million are for earlier, larger systems than might be pursued, but this wasn’t communicated or understood by all of the Commissioners.
Watsonville needs rail transit and better Metro, and this business plan includes affordable options like the TIG/m rapid streetcar project: http://www.coastfutura.org
TAMC (the Transportation Agency for Monterey County) and the Coastal Commission, Caltrans, Ecology Action, many others others support rail transit and approval of this business plan! Let’s remember that the rail line will work with Metro to create a network that will serve thousands more people than Metro alone and serve south county with greater equity while connecting to the regional and state network.
To any commissioners who are considering a no vote because of concerns around cost ridership etc.:
If we want to authentically confirm or dispel concerns around costs and funding, this business plan will provide the information needed to find out with certainly.
I hope RTC staff will prepare as requested materials that will aid commissioners in understand the business plan’s costs, risks, and benefits in advance of the next meeting. I encourage Commissioners McPherson, Peterson, and alternate Mulhearn to follow the recommendation of expert staff, Caltrans, TAMC, et al., and vote Yes when this comes back for a vote.
Equity demands using the entire corridor for public transit and trail. Let’s not deprive south county and future generations of their chance to have a high quality public transit network!
Thank you Gary Plomp. I concur with your comment. Put George Washington stature back where it was first installed or stop with the murals of the blood thirsty Mayan and Aztec in our public school building. Also stop with the stupid idea of changing Cabrillo College’s name which would cost millions and is dumb as well.
Steve Trujillo led attacks on Cabrillo College’s name and our first president George Washington are tiresome and racist.
I’m a bean eater and I approve this message…
Yo weren’t the Aztecs slave owners?- and sacrificed their slaves once they abused and had fun with them? That’s some genocide right there that most people tend to ignore or look the other way. Also cholo(gang) crap too…
You can put this bust on my lawn any day! I live on Rodriguez St and I’m sure my neighborhood would appreciate George Washington! I’ll compromise to a put a bench and a United States Flag.
I’ll donate plants to surround our first President Washington’s bust and bench on your front lawn.
People wanting to play soccer or other games might be more welcome in our neighborhoods if they didn’t trash them. I live next to a school in Watsonville. All the sports being played in the fields means we residents have to pick up the garbage they leave. I pick up dirty diapers, trash and everything under the sun they toss out of their cars. The people staying the latest at our school fields leave beer bottles and the occasional used condom either on the ground or stuck into my plants. You sports enthusiasts have no respect for our neighborhood or Mother Earth with the garbage trail you leave. Use the money to clean up the mess left by the whining sports lovers.
HB, you’ve lost sight of the liberal manifesto: If it feels good, do it, Even so far as leaving used condoms in your precious petunias. Don’t be so NIMBY.
It’s not libs who are playing soccer, but just ordinary people who trash neighborhoods. PS You don’t know what you’re talking about when you mention people who are liberal. Do catch up Davie.
that is one more gun that needs to be off the street. the second amendment does not guarantee the right to shoot up the neighborhood whenever you are having a bad day.
Duly noted.
yes, I celebrate Easter. and i hope all our residents will have a blessed COVID 19 FREE year.
Thank You!
housing is being created in “INFILL” spaces in the city that are currently not in use. but we need parks for a growing population as well. we need a park along the Freedom blvd. corridor. no one will miss the empty, asphalt covered , used- car lots that sit there now.
Thank you, Tony, for this timely article.
NO more parks are needed. The park goers don’t respect the neighborhoods they’re created in and trash them. We’re tired of cleaning up their mess when they leave.
Fishers? Tarmo, see those two manly looking men, do you think in their quiet moments with their families, they refer to themselves as fishers?
Fishers? Tarmo, see those two manly looking men, do you think in their quiet moments with their families, they refer to themselves as fishers?
You think Angler is better terminology?
I kinda think- “bad ass men” – “providers” is a better choice of words. But who am I, I graduated from WHS, therefore I can’t be that smart.
Personally, I’ve always liked ‘fishermen’. But I guess, along with ‘firemen’ and ‘chinamen’ I’m no longer allowed to use that icky word..
wonderful news. healthy food.
Make a trail. Maybe pay the state back the rail money. A single signal controlled bus way down the center of Highway one is all that is needed.
this is a great bill. it rivals the new deal of the 1930’s. it MUST be passed. RETHUGLICANS are simply wrong. inflation can be checked by a slight raise in interest rates by the FED. this bill will reduce child poverty by half. is it socialism ? it sure is, and we need it.
Register Pajaronian- Why are you posting someone else’s article- why can’t you write your own article
Newsolini- About time… idk why you closed the state to begin with.. you are retard buddy… a retard. Hope you get fired.
thank you , Governor Newsome. just so no to the stupid recall.
You got No shame.
you have no sense. if anyone needs to be shamed, it is the Rethuglicans who love trumpdump and hate America. by the way, the Gallup survey says that only 40% of Americans identify with the GOP.
the lowest number in more than 10 years. people are leaving YOUR party in droves !
Cnn poll I’m assuming. Should be renamed FNN=Fake News Network
An idea whose time has come.
Get on board, you crumbums.

as this is the worst world wide health crisis in 100 years, this should come as no surprise.
Until people of color bite the bullet we are in deep trouble. It’s my understanding that many of them avoid the vaccination process because they fear ‘the man’. Steve, you’re a hero to some of these bent-gene misfits, can you get them off their frightened asses? “Hi,I’m from the Government, here only to help you”
This will boil down to HIPAA laws, and likely, end up at the Supreme Court.
He’s still in jail, but he’ll be out after his first court appearance, because Santa Cruz county is chock full of liberal judges.
We clearly have an opportunity to give people an alternative to daily congestion, we hope one or two commissioners will reconsider their no votes and join Watsonville and Santa Cruz city councils and other commissioners in support of the rail project, which with Monterey County’s rail projects will serve the entire region and connect to the state passenger rail network.
New, battery electric rail vehicles are possible, one is coming for a demonstration later this year.
Visit http://www.coastfutura.org for a look at the type of clean quiet transit we can have, and soon.
Thank you, Tarmo, for a reasonable report.
Dream on city planners. Decades have passed, technology has advanced and the public prizes convenience. Promoting the downtown Fox movie house as a possible future entertainment center is as absurd as promoting the Ford/Gottschalks store as a key location for shopping. It might make some sense to centralize the activities of city governance in a Civic Plaza downtown, but not for the activities that people have to and want to participate in. Just as it is not an attractive prospect of hanging out with family and friends in the City Plaza. Even when there was an opportunity to spend some time with George.
first on the list: remove the ugly, cracked asphalt of used car lots of Freedom. second: vacant lots on East Lake at the east end of the city. third: clean up behind Home Depot and turn it into a park.
yes, DREAM on city planners. that is what makes a city great. what does not is ignoring our city assets and making efforts to REFIT them to a contemporary purpose.
many people enjoy spending time in the city plaza, as I do. it is a great location for demonstrations, Pajaro GLBT pride festival in August and many other civic events.
Let us explore with the owner of the Fox theatre possible new uses for this edifice complex.
Bafflegab. You have no understanding of how cities and businesses stay alive. Maybe now that you’re established (for one term) at Steve’s Junior College, you can sneak out of a meeting to attend a business class or two. I’m sure your colleagues will be thrilled for each hour you’re not there creating a commotion.
Once again, the Pajaronian gets the scoop on the Santa Cruz Senile.
Once again, the Pajaronian gets the scoop on the Santa Cruz Senile.
tragic and gruesome.
Second time in the last few months. Same spot, too.
The sidelining of this project has benefited the thousands of residents who live along the tracks – from La Selva Beach all the way to the Northern end of Santa Cruz.
how?
Either you’re hard of hearing, or you live nowhere near the ROW, not to mention the effects on property values if regular commuter services ever commence on the single track line which runs through densely populated areas of the county. It’s a boondoggle motivated by a pipe dream.
I’m not hard of hearing. I wish I were, then maybe I wouldn’t be so tired of the whining. The rights of people who purchased property on an existing rail line (and the big money real estate types funding candidates and disinformation) do not trample those of the 70+% majority in the county that have repeatedly voted in favor of redevelopment of this corridor. The combination of multi-use trail and light electric-powered transit has a lot of potential upside with low impact including noise levels. You may not feel it’s relevant to your life, but I’m among the majority that does. Maybe ask anyone trapped on a bus in traffic, stuck in a car trying to get to school, work or childcare on time. Speak with someone that can’t reasonably drive, walk or ride a bike to get where they’re going. The long-term needs of this community need to be met with more than a 32-mile long park.
Nice whine. So, it’s been established that you don’t live near the tracks, a commuter rail project will not commence until long after 2030 if ever, and it’s been long established that we don’t have a pure democracy in this country.
Anther criminal with a gun.
For some reason, the writer has a need to assert his liberal bona fides here in Santa Cruz County, where Asians are among the civic leaders, are among the decorated veterans, and are among the best physicians in the country. Apparently he needs to do a little more research in order to better familiarize himself with the local citizenry.
Those cards will be easy to fake. A new way to create jobs!
It would be great to see this place open again. It’s sat unused for far too long. Of course Garcia is willing to talk now, property values are through the roof again.
The building is currently a blight in the downtown corridor. Poster sign and door glass etched with graffiti on a dirty building. Maybe the city should start enforcing their municipal code on the building.
If the city council wants to make downtown a popular place, they need stop turning a blind eye to everything. Downtown is dirty and blighted. Start making folks clean things up. Use that ARP money and create grants for the downtown businesses. Paint, external repairs, etc will go a long way to drawing in more people. If money ends up in the building owner’s hands, make sure they “pass the buck” to their tenants.
People have been cooped up for a year, they are anxious to get out and be social and be seen.
This is the way.
Now we need to move PV arts to a Main street location, and use space for artist studios. great article. so glad to see they are alive and well again.
this is why only legal marijuana production should be patronized. the illegal operations like this lead to injury, death and destruction.
Steve, can you hustle up some interest among your amigos? Their lack of interest is killing those of us with a lighter hue.
Wow- such a bad article… Watsonville man the tittle says… however, this event happened in Prunedale and this man is a resident of Salinas— how is this a Watsonville man?? Geez even this WHS graduate is smart to call this reporters b.s…
Hillarious that you disparage this person for their article, yet you are unable to read.a 35 year old watsonville man was injured (Francisco Ponce) – – – THEN detectives arrested a 39 year old Salinas man who was connected to this situation. Maybe go back for another class or two at WHS.
“improvements” to the detriment of drivers and to the advantage of cyclists and hoofers, as the US continues devolution towards its future as a member of the third world.
Four years and he’s out on the street again. That’s Santa Cruz County justice.
“improvements” to the detriment of drivers and to the advantage of cyclists and hoofers, as the US continues devolution towards its future as a member of the third world.
these improvements are long overdue. and bicyclist and pedestrians need safety in travel along Freedom blvd. they dont cause global climate change, rainbelt.
in addtion, Freedom blvd . needs more trees, and less asphalt lots. what would be nice to replace them would be a city park for the residents. there are few if any in that part of the city. a greenbelt would also bring the temperature down. that is not third world , rainbelt, but a SMART WORLD.
Ah yes. More bikes, more walkers, lots of mass transit, less asphalt, lots of trees. Most everybody there was broke and not too smart, the exception being the elite central planners. That describes my time in the third world.
no one is stopping you from returning there, rainbelt. what you clearly do not understand is that global climate change is FACT. it is real. the great thing about science is that it is true whether you believe it or not.
Cabrillo offers great science classes that would benefit your education greatly.
Nice. A personal attack from a pedantic Third Worlder suggesting I take remedial grade inflated classes from the kangaroo school upon which he is a member of the board. I rest my case.

Red wire to the black, right????
Hmmm, after all the free publicity the Peronian gave them they’re still cratering. Maybe their market has moved away.
I shop there for the fresh tofu, and other essentials. Great store and family. Sad to see them go. I went to school with Toshi.
Some move in, some move out. It will be interesting to see how many survive.
“flock”? Tarmo, behave yourself.
“I second that emotion”.
They must have gotten rid of the VIN number too. Must still have its catalytic converter, though. Junked before it could be parted out.
I get my burritos at the Bean. As for grocery shopping, I shop where the prices are good and the new Staff of Life is so over priced, I won’t be shopping there unless I need some specific thing that no one else carries. I shop at the Mexican markets often since they aren’t out to gauge you with extreme prices. Nob Hill and Safeway both charge way too much (almost double what you pay at Grocery Outlet or other stores),
i am pleased to see more new businesses, although we dont need another drive through. there are too many of them in Watsonville now. as far as your “emotions” , with fake pseudonyms that you use to post, they dont count for much. if you cant express how you feel using your real name, then you have no integrity. clearly, you are ashamed of your posts.
Your comment activity is private. Maybe you are also ashamed of your posts…
Ok, dweeb, you got me. My real name is N.D. Plume.

Watsonville’s the best place to shop and to eat in the county.
They are just great people. we OWE the Yamashita family debt of gratitude for being
an essential business in our downtown. Their perseverance, courage and determination in the face of bigotry and racism is an awesome testament to the power of human will.
i think the city should apply for state historic monument status for the store. it could be a museum for our Japanese American history in Watsonville. We need to celebrate it and all those who made this store happen,
in a related news story today, the new prime minister of Japan is the first foreign leader to visit President Joe Biden IN PERSON at the White House today. Japan is an essential ally of the United States, helping us to offset the influence of the repressive governments of China and North Korea.

PVA is also continuing to look for a new home. Last month, its purchase
of the historic Porter Building in downtown Watsonville was halted due
to the Surplus Land Act, which requires jurisdictions to make certain
properties available to affordable housing developers before being sold.
Once again, a good deal queered by Steve Trujillo. Keep an eye on this guy, Watsonvillagers. He is poison.
An aside to Dan the owner of the Porter Building: rather that an Italian restaurant, how about a Croation restaurant. Croats are among the most prosperous citizens of our area – an area that stretches from here through the Central Valley – and they can afford to eat out.
I’m not aware of their special dishes, but they seem to like lamb and pork (don’t we all?)
‘All of the work is priced under $300’
Get real, art lovers, this ain’t Carmel. $300 would hardly keep our typical families in frijoles, much less chiles – and of course ‘fine art pieces’.
My thoughts below are mine only. I do NOT speak for the College or the board of trustees.
Numerous historians agree that Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo was a soldier of fortune, used his will to savage and exploit the indigenous populations of what is now Mexico and CA and used girls and women as sex slaves for his soldiers. He also brought disease and viruses that the indigenous population had no defense.
Now that Sandy Lydon, longtime history professor at Cabrillo has told us how our school came to be named after him, it does appear we were named at the whim of a former reporter for the Santa Cruz Sentinel. That is a travesty. The naming of a local community college should involve the COMMUNITY. clearly , that did not happen.
The fact that Cabrillo did not set foot in our county, or do anything to advance higher education among the Ohlone community in CA should disqualify him from having ANY educational institution named for him.
Our community college belongs to ALL OF US, not just a certain pre-selected group. The college has an excellent process of renaming that it has set up. Let us use this process in the establishment of a more appropriate name for our school.
Let us put Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in the dust bin of history where he belongs.
Well shoot. For 15 years I’ve driven over to Mitsuwa from Santa Cruz. I’ve never heard of this market until now. It doesn’t show up in google searches. Maybe they don’t realize that they have not reached their potential customer base throughout the county!?
While the rest of the world is concerned with producing engineers, scientists, doctors, business people and a skilled workforce, many of our U.S.education leaders are obsessed with race mongering and the all encompassing mission of renaming just about everything…
Yes, the renaming of Cabrillo will involve upwards of $1,000,000 as well as losing the long established name/brand recognition that will surely impact the already dismal enrollment numbers at the school.
Look for another bond thrown at the voters for more money in the near future because the school is horrible at money management….
Meanwhile, attacking the name of Cabrillo college while creating new murals on taxpayers dime at Watsonville High school of the bloodthirsty and murderous Mayan and Aztecs is okay? Leave the name of Cabrillo on the school and stop with the stupidity. Our tax dollars shouldn’t be wasted on this idiocy.
Judy is correct again. I have donated large sums to Cabrillo in my family’s name but if the name is changed, I will donate a used tortilla and keep my money.
It would appear she was a little high-handed and should be shown the door. Speaking of high-handed politicians who should be shown the door,I wonder what our Watsonvillain has to say ’bout Ms Acosta being bounced.. https://media2.giphy.com/media/HnniPttdBIJ9aDEuZ5/giphy-downsized-medium.gif

I think ALL the Board of Trustees need to be recalled. What has been done to our children is horrendous. The academic, social and emotional damage this Board has allowed to happen is incalculable. Our kids are now a year behind in school compared to kids in other states and even other kids in CA. This is unacceptable!! People have not been able to work because of this. This Board cares more about the Teachers Union than it does about students. Time for all of them to leave!
may i remind you, Maria, that the PVUSD school board did NOT cause the Covid 19 pandemic. They did not create or encourage the spread of the virus. I was a teacher for 36 years in CA public schools, including Rolling Hills Middle School.
OUR number one priority is the health and safety of our students. PERIOD.
Numerous studies show that schools are not places where Covid spreads. Here is one of them: https://www.usnews.com/news/education-news/articles/2020-12-23/new-study-cautiously-suggests-schools-dont-increase-spread-of-coronavirus
It seems that the MENTAL health of the students was not number one priority. PERIOD. There have been numerous suicides and I personally know quite a few kids who are in therapy who were fine before Covid. There are public schools in CA that have been open full-time since the Fall. Why haven’t we?

Not such a small group. all 18 of us voted to put the full effort of the Cesar Chavez Democratic Club behind the recall effort. That includes both donations from the club and individual members.
it wont be terribly difficult to get 20 signatures from voters in area 2. the outrage at her actions, including 26 absences from trustee meetings in 4 years, is palpable. I fully support the effort. ONCE AGAIN, i will remind you that i speak here as an individual, not as a representative of Cabrillo College or for my fellow trustees. Simply because you are elected to office does not censor you from actively participating in other community issues or campaigns.
The demand to rename our poorly-named institutions , schools, parks , public structures and places that are paid for by tax dollars is LONG OVERDUE. I speak representing MYSELF, not the college or the board of trustees. The fact that schools throughout the nation are being renamed is recognition of the fact that the original names chosen supported a system of racism, genocide, slavery as divine right and immorality as common practice and therefore, acceptability.
Our community college continues producing engineers, scientists , doctors, nurses, teachers , business people and a whole host of other occupations DESPITE the ongoing process of renaming the campus is a tribute to the professors at Cabrillo college. That includes both full time and adjunct teachers. And thank you to former history professor Sandy Lydon for explaining the pathetic series of events that led to the naming of the college in the first place.
The dismal enrollment numbers have NOTHING TO DO with renaming the campus . A collapsed economy due to a worldwide pandemic has EVERYTHING to do with dismal enrollment numbers. This trend is not only affecting community colleges across CA but across the nation as well.
Thanks to President Biden’s Covid 19 rescue package, our community college will recover and thrive. What can help is to make community college classes TUITION FREE, as they were before 1970. I paid $3 a unit from 1971-73 at my community college in Gardena CA. it was affordable. i was able to transfer to a CSU without having ANY debt. we need to make that option available again if we intend to rebuild the middle class.
This will hopefully end the all too pervasive habit ( but i have not seen it in Watsonville) of police “chauvinism”. I use the word to describe not only the lack of respect many women receive from some male police officers, but the wholesale brutality and oppression that right wing, white nationalist police officers use against people of color or people who are “different”.
To preserve any semblance of democracy in the USA, THIS MUST END.
My thanks to the prosecution, the officers who testified against Chauvin, the judge and the jury. Most of all , we should give credit to the family of George Floyd for their incredible strength through this GOD awful ordeal.
Justice has prevailed.
AMEN !!!!
Editor, am I being censored? I have a response to Steve that many of us would like to hear. Am I allowed? RSVP?
Don’t start with you’re right wing nonsense, was Derek a right winger? This happened in left wing State. You and your race baiting, You’re part of the problem Steven.
