WATSONVILLE — Hundreds of people attended the third-annual Wings Over Watsonville festival on Saturday, despite temperatures on the tarmac that topped 110 degrees.

Demarco Hunter, 10, and his brother Malik, 8, took their first flight in a small plane, along with Ruby Romero.

That was thanks to Watsonville Experimental Aircraft Association, which was offering free flights to young people.

Piper Woo, who had just returned from her flight, described the experience as “interesting.”

“Everything looked very small,” she said.

Several food vendors were on hand at the Watsonville Municipal Airport, and a handful of antique and historic aircraft allowed attendees to get a glimpse of aviation history.

Mason Gordon, 11, said the flight inspired a possible future career choice.

“I am going to pilot’s school,” he said.
