Preparations are underway for the 125th anniversary celebration of the Watsonville Woman’s Club.
Woman’s Club President Gina Gallucci said the Aug. 29 free event will be the centerpiece of a mixer hosted by the Pajaro Valley Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.
The organization was founded in 1899, first holding meetings at area homes, then in school gymnasiums. Their longstanding and current home at 12 Brennan St. was built in 1917, and their first president was Florilla Wickersham, 1899-1900.
“Our original goal was to make our community a better place to live, and that purpose is as vital today as it was over a century ago,” a statement on their website says. “Our club is a social and service club. Our members enjoy coming together to work on projects to benefit our community.”
The anniversary celebration will be catered by The Grocery Outlet and will feature cheeses from around the world and a rich mix of finger foods.
“Grocery Outlet is one of our favorite caterers,” said Chamber CEO Shaz Roth. “They do an outstanding job.”The anniversary celebration is Aug. 29 from 5-7pm at the Watsonville Woman’s Club at 12 Brennan St.
