Marcos Reyes, Aptos, Sr.: The senior three-sport athlete with a 4.0 grade point average will have a very good shot at breaking several records for the Aptos football team in the fall. He’ll also have a chance to be a force on the wrestling mat in the winter and a solid contributor to the track and field team in the spring.
During last football season, Reyes was named the Monterey Bay League Gabilan division’s co-Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 1,276 yards and 16 touchdowns. He tied Mike Allshouse’s single-game rushing record (292 yards) in a victory over Monte Vista Christian last fall, and will enter this season just 332 yards away from Allshouse’s career rushing record (2,082).
He very well could have surpassed the record last season if not for an ankle injury, which kept him from playing in the Mariners’ final regular season game and their lone Central Coast Section playoff contest. Reyes is also within range of the program’s career scoring record (200 points by Brooks Nicholson).
Last winter, Reyes finished runner-up in his weight division at the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Wrestling Championships for the second consecutive season. He also posted a strong 4-2 record at the CCS tournament.
