Josh Powell, Aptos, (Sr.): Aptos’ three-sport athlete is going to stay busy during his senior campaign as he plans to compete in football in the fall, basketball during the winter and finally volleyball in the spring.

Powell is a perfect fit for the Mariners’ run-heavy attack and returns as one of the team captains. He ran for 801 yards and 11 touchdowns on 127 touches last season.

The basketball team was a Central Coast Section finalist and CIF state championship qualifier. But Aptos lost a majority of its players after graduation, which means Powell and a young but experienced group will need to step it up this season.

Powell will try to help lead the Mariners win their third straight Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League volleyball title. A handful of Aptos’ top players including Jackson Shirley are gone after graduation but a solid group of other starters, such as Bryce Edwards, are set to return.
