WATSONVILLE—The long-vacant Gottschalks building in downtown Watsonville will come to life on Oct. 17 for Uncorked in Downtown, an evening of wine, food and fun put on by Pacific Coast Development.
The event, spearhead by Neva Hansen, will feature wines from Anatum Winery, Wargin Wines, El Vaquero Winery, Las Nietas Vineyard and Integrity Wines. Togo’s, set to open in downtown on the first floor of The Terrace in the coming months, will cater the event.
Hansen said the building, which has been empty since Gottschalks closed in 2009, was a natural location for the event.
“It’s all about revitalizing downtown,” Hansen said. “Bringing people and businesses like these wineries downtown and showing them what the Pajaro Valley has to offer—show businesses the type of support the community would give them in downtown.”
The event will serve as a fundraiser for the Pajaro Valley Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture’s new scholarship fund.
PV Chamber CEO Shaz Roth said Hansen and her husband Bill approached the Chamber about the event.
“They said they wanted to do something that would showcase Watsonville wineries and help local students,” Roth said. “We’re honored that they selected us and chose to donate to our scholarship fund.”
The event will run from 5-8 p.m.
Attendance will be capped at 150.
Tickets available on Eventbrite.
“We like to give back to the community,” Hansen said. “That’s why we do all this. That’s why we continue to invest in the downtown.”
