
A road rage incident ended with one man being arrested after he struck a bicyclist with his car.
Patrol Officers responded to the area of East Lake Avenue and Brennan Street On July 9 after receiving reports that a person riding a bicycle had been hit by a maroon Honda Accord. The driver had left the scene before officers arrived. The bicyclist suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Using Flock Safety cameras, witness statements and other evidence, officers identified the car involved. The driver, 25-year-old Luis Valenzuela, admitted that he struck the bicyclist during the road rage incident and turned himself in.
Valenzuela was arrested and taken to the Santa Cruz County Jail facing charges for assault with a deadly weapon.
He was not in custody on July 14, jail records showed.











Great that the WPO arrested this guy. Now police need to start arresting all the kids riding small motor bikes, ecycles etc that are terrorizing our neighborhoods. They don’t obey traffic laws, they flip off drivers that call them on their behavior and make it unsafe for all drivers and walkers. I see them all the time on Palm and Madison near E A Hall and Minte White schools. They also don’t wear helmets. I worry that I may hit one of them when I’m driving due to their unsafe actions and lack of knowledge about traffic laws. Do something WPD or another kid will get hit due to their own unsafe actions.
I see from other articles in your publication that you don’t mention ethnicity. Why did you feel the need to now?
