The coaches of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League got together last week to make up this year’s all-league girls volleyball teams.
The dynamic duo of Aptos High outside hitter Peyton Dueck and opposite Natalia Ackerman were named to the league’s first team.
Dueck led the Mariners in kills (290) and digs (194) and was third in aces (30). The junior all-star is set to attend Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo to play both indoor and beach in 2021.
Ackerman, a 6-foot-1 senior, was second in kills (230) and in blocks (36) for Aptos, which concluded the season with a 16-14 overall record.
They finished runner-up to rival Soquel High but still earned the No. 3 seed in the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs.
Soquel senior Sam Strah, a Cal Poly-SLO commit, was recognized as the SCCAL’s M.V.P. for a second straight year, while junior Renee Parker and sophomore Ciara Cantlan were named to the first team.
The Knights finished the season with a 17-5 overall record and earned the No. 2 seed in the CCS D-III playoffs.
Santa Cruz High sophomore Marilu Pally and senior Chloe Drysdale along with Harbor High senior Carly Ditz were named to the SCCAL First Team.
SCCAL Coach of the Year went to Harbor head coach Matt Schutz, who led the Pirates to a share of the regular season league title with Soquel and an appearance in the league tournament finals.
San Lorenzo Valley finished last in the league standings following an 0-12 run, but the coaches of the league honored Cougars’ senior setter Mia Metoyer with the SCCAL Coaches’ Award.
Aptos senior Alana Patyk-Randa and freshman Jordyn Waite-Ward were named to the SCCAL Second Team.
Patyk-Randa led the Mariners in assists (626) and aces (59) and was second in digs (186), according to the stats kept on MaxPreps.
Waite-Ward led the team in blocks (60) and was third in kills (117).
Mount Madonna senior Paola Jacobs and junior Savannah Cambell were also second team selections.
Jacobs led the Hawks in kills (299) and in digs (279), and was second in aces (50), according to stats kept by the team.
Cambell finished with a team-high 645 assists and 50 aces along with 191 digs and 69 kills.
Mt. Madonna finished fourth in the SCCAL but qualified as the top seed in the CCS D-V playoffs.
Aptos and Mt. Madonna each had a pair of players earn honorable mention.
Mariners’ senior middle blocker Gabby Giuffre and senior libero Sophie Wilford earned recognition, and Hawks’ senior libero AnMei Dasbach-Prisk and sophomore outside hitter Liana Kitchel also earned a mention.
