Supervisor Caput elected Board Chair
The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously elected Greg Caput as the Board Chair for 2020, and Supervisor Bruce McPherson as Vice-Chair.
“I’m honored by the trust placed in me by my colleagues on the Board,” Caput said. “As Chair, I remain and will continue to be a strong advocate for the people of Santa Cruz County.”
Caput replaces Supervisor Ryan Coonerty and is expected to serve a one-year term.
Calling all chefs for Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off
SANTA CRUZ—The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is calling all chefs for the 39th annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off.
The popular fundraiser for Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation Department is a two-day event, with amateur chefs competing Feb. 22 and professional chefs the following day.
This year, chefs must register by Jan. 31 to receive complimentary event t-shirts and Boardwalk ride tickets for the event. Entry fee is $50. Final registration deadline is Feb. 14. For more information, entry form, and rules please visit beachboardwalk.com/clamchowder/
Judges will determine the best Manhattan and Boston Clam Chowders in Amateur and Professional categories. The public will weigh in on awards for People’s Choice and Most Tasted Clam Chowders. Prizes include airline tickets, cash, wall plaques, and bragging rights.
All proceeds from the Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off benefit the City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department. For information contact the Chowder Committee 420-5273.
Berry Bowl has new tenant
The building that formerly held the Berry Bowl at 416 Salinas Rd. has a new tenant.
Community Tree Service, Inc. moved into the space in the first part of January.
The Watsonville Berry Cooperative was a group of farmers also known as the Watsonville Berry Bowl. It ended 64 years of operations at the end of 2018.
