Monterey County Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested an 18-year-old Greenfield resident in connection with the Nov. 2 shooting on Jetty Road in Moss Landing that claimed the lives of two teenagers.

Donald William Breeden of Greenfield faces two counts of murder with criminal street gang enhancements. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail, with bail set at $2.035 million, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

On Nov. 5, sheriff’s detectives, assisted by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, Monterey Peninsula Special Response Unit and California State Parks, served two search warrants in Greenfield and King City.

The first search warrant was served in the 900 block of Maple Avenue in Greenfield, where three people were detained. A second search warrant was served in the 45000 block of Crown Avenue in King City, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the Jetty Road shooting that occurred just before 2am on Nov. 2. When deputies arrived, they found 13-year-old Nathaniel Flores and 15-year-old Marco Antonio Perez, both of Salinas, dead at the scene.

A third victim arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. A fourth person was taken from the scene to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening and were determined to be unrelated to the shooting.

Two large, colorful makeshift memorials have been erected at the shooting scene, decorated with flowers, votive candles, mementos and signs.

“He was a good kid and would have gone far,” said one man who visited the site and said Nate was a friend. “He was kind and liked to help people. This is wrong and very, very sad.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact Detective Sgt. Kennedy at 831.755.3773 or Detective Geng at 831.759.7279.
