SANTA CRUZ—Santa Cruz Police on Thursday arrested a man for attempted robbery, one week after he allegedly brandished a knife and demanded money from someone at an ATM.
Jesse Tapia, 33, was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail. He was not in custody Friday afternoon, jail records showed.
According to the SCPD, a 48-year-old male victim was retrieving money from an ATM on the 100 block of Church Street on March 19 when he was approached by Tapia who was brandishing a 5-inch knife.
While holding the knife, Tapia allegedly demanded the victim’s money. The victim feared for his safety and began to walk away from Tapia, who followed the victim for a short time.
The victim fled and reported the crime to the Santa Cruz Police Department.
During the investigation, SCPD Detectives, with help from outside agencies identified Tapia.
Tapia was currently out of custody and was on pretrial release from a previous arrest on March 6 for domestic violence charges in Santa Cruz County, court records show.Â
