WATSONVILLE—Watsonville Chief of Police David Honda will give a presentation on “community oversight and engagement” to the City Council at today’s virtual meeting.

The meeting begins at 2pm. To participate visit https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/794248253 or call 1 (786) 535-3211 and enter access code 794-248-253.

The Watsonville Police Department—and nearly every law enforcement agency across the nation—has faced increased scrutiny over the last month as social unrest has continued to build since the killing of George Floyd in late May.

Members of the community called for the WPD budget to be slashed at the previous city council meeting. Others have asked city leaders to place a repeal of Measure Y on the November ballot.

Today’s presentation is not an action item, but the public will have time to provide input.
