I noticed a crew from Northwest Signs taking down the long-standing sign on Wendy’s on Freedom Boulevard Monday to make way for an updated sign. While CEO Emil Brolick said the existing logo had served the company well for the past three decades, he said a change is overdue. “Instead of the boxy, old-fashioned lettering against a red-and-yellow backdrop, the pared down new look features the chain’s name in a casual red font against a clean white backdrop,” the Associated Press wrote. “An image of the smiling, cartoon girl in red pigtails floats above — though this [new] girl looks more vivid and not quite as childlike.”

Watsonville artist Yermo Aranda started up a major restoration project of a huge outdoor mural on the West Lake Ave. side of La Manzana over the weekend. With the help of numerous community members, including youths, the project will include two new large panels to make the overall width more than 70 feet. It is 12 feet tall. Aranda said the job will take about eight weeks.
Meanwhile, the second massive mosaic panel of “Watsonville Brilliante” has been completed and unveiled on the southern side of the six-level parking structure on Rodriguez and West Beach streets. In the end there will be five panels.

Halloween decor is springing up around town, like at the home on the corner of Palm Ave. and Lincoln St. The costume holiday will certainly be different this year, with the pandemic casting its veil over the affair, like most everything else.

Spain has declared a state of emergency with the news that it has topped 1 million cases of Covid-19. Belgium saw a 75% increase in cases the last few days. Medical experts are offering serious warnings that winter will only fuel the virus as more people are forced indoors by cold, wet weather.
The US has 8.74 million cases with 225,000 deaths. Vice President Mike Pence announced that 5 people in his innermost circle, including his chief of staff, Marc Short has now tested positive for Covid-19. It seems highly unusual that Pence and President Trump, two of the most protected people in America and about a dozen of their staff, have tested positive. Pence is the Czar of the coronavirus task force and he failed at protecting his team from getting the disease.
