Police: Man shattered WPD office window with rock

WATSONVILLE—A man who police say caused thousands of dollars in damage at Watsonville Police Department was arrested Tuesday.

Police say Eduardo Nava, 42, chucked a large rock through an office window where officers were meeting Tuesday morning.

“The officers rushed out of the office towards the front of the police department where they located and arrested Nava,” WPD spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said.

Nava, Pulido said, had more rocks tucked into his sweater.

On Monday, two large office windows were shattered on the same side of the building near the entrance to the department. Pulido said officers were trying to determine whether Nava was behind that vandalism as well.

Earlier this month the WPD front lobby door was shot and shattered with a BB gun. The same thing happened to another office window on the Union Street side of the building during the Fourth of July weekend. Both incidents are still under investigation.

Pulido said the cost of the glass alone for the smallest window would be around $2,500, and that the larger plate glass windows would run much higher.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

Nava was taken to the Santa Cruz County Jail on felony vandalism charges.
