A 62-year-old Aptos man died Tuesday night in a solo-vehicle crash on Soquel San Jose Road.

California Highway Patrol officer Israel Murillo said the man, who has not been named, was driving a gray 2004 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Soquel San Jose Road approaching Los Robles Road at 7:50pm.

For unknown reasons, the Chevrolet veered off the roadway at an unknown speed and collided with a raised asphalt curb before overturning. The Silverado continued to travel in a northwesterly direction and collided with a metal chain-link fence.

As a result of this crash, the driver suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel despite lifesaving efforts.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were factors.
