Boys

Dominic Pierini (Sr.), Monte Vista Christian

The standout Mustangs quarterback completed 29 of 36 pass attempts for 421 yards and five touchdowns in a 42-6 crushing non-league win over Santa Clara on Sept. 6. He had 352 yards passing and the five TDs going into halftime. 

Pierini, who also averages 5.4 yards per carry (65 yards on 12 carries), became the all-time leading passer in MVC and Santa Cruz County history after a 400-yard performance in the Aug. 30 season-opener against Piedmont Hills. He currently has 5,344 career yards since taking over the starting job in 2022.  

Girls

Maya Calfee (So.), St. Francis

Calfee hauled in seven receptions for 320 yards and four touchdowns for the Sharks in their crushing 49-0 win over Pajaro Valley in Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division action Sept. 3. She also had four flag pulls and one interception on defense. 

The star receiver added 13 receptions for 310 yards and one touchdown in a non-league game against Loma Linda on Sept. 6. Calfee was once again a stalwart on defense with one flag pull and three interceptions.

Calfee had another strong performance that same day against Sacramento Adventist Academy. She finished with seven receptions for 180 yards and three TDs to go along with five flag pulls.
