More than 200 people staged a protest along Main Street in downtown Watsonville Saturday as part of a nationwide effort to speak out against President Trump and many of his policies.

Headed up by Indivisible Pajaro Valley, the crowds lines both sides of Main Street between 11am and 1pm at Watsonville Plaza waving signs such as, “No Kings Here,” “Defend Democracy,” “Trump, Traitor Treason,” “Resist Evil,” “Unite, Resist, Vote,” “Stop Hate,” and “We are All Immigrants.” The crowd was encouraged by thousands of passing motorists who blared their horns and gave thumbs up out their windows.

“We are out here because President Trump continues to undertake actions that are trying to consolidate his power and establish an authoritarian regime and one of those actions, right now, is a mid-decade redistricting in Texas—that he has asked Texas to undertake in order to give him five more Republican seats,” said Olivia Millard, one of the founders of Indivisible Pajaro Valley.

Millard said the event marked the fifth such protest by Indivisible in Watsonville. They have also popped up in Aromas, Aptos, Santa Cruz, Marina, Seaside and Monterey.
