The City of Watsonville and Community Arts and Empowerment are seeking community input on the art that will soon decorate the new stage skirt at the City Plaza.

Two artists—and one team of artists—have been selected as semifinalists to design an image.

The art will be part of the Plaza renovation, which will include a new stage facing Main Street.

The semi-finalists were chosen from a list of 47 artists that responded to a request for proposals.

Once the image has been approved Community Arts & Empowerment will fabricate the design in tiles at the Muzzio Mosaic Arts Center.

There are many ways the community can be involved.

• Dec. 2 will be a chance to get a look at the semi-finalists’ work and give on the art.

• On Dec. 16 at the same place and time, the semifinalist artists will present their rough drafts.

The community is invited to comment on the rough drafts and to give their input on the designs they prefer.

One artist, or the artist team, will be chosen after that meeting.

Jan. 13 will be a chance to review the final design and make any suggested changes.

All the meetings will happen at 5:30pm in the community room of the Parks and Community Services Offices at 231 Union St.

Fabrication will begin in February, and the community is invited to place tiles at the Muzzio Mosaic Arts Center on the design that will become the stage skirt.
