A man was arrested Tuesday for driving a stolen car to the Monterey County Superior Courthouse in Salinas, where he was scheduled to appear for a previous auto theft case.

Ricardo Otero, 41, was charged with driving a stolen vehicle, committing a felony while on bail and driving with a suspended license. He was booked into Monterey County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail, jail records showed.

According to Monterey County Sheriff spokesman Andres Rosas, Members of the Multi-Agency Detail Combating Auto Theft (MADCAT) observed Otero pull into the Salinas Courthouse parking area at about 11am driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of San Jose.

Deputies contacted Otero outside the courtroom where he was scheduled to appear for a pending auto theft case.

Otero was taken into custody without incident.
