A 23-year-old motorcyclist died Sept. 23 morning following a collision with a pickup on Corralitos Road, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP officers responded at about 7:01am to the intersection of Corralitos and Merk roads.
According to CHP, a 61-year-old Watsonville man was driving a white 2000 GMC pickup north on Corralitos Road, south of Merk Road. At the same time, the 23-year-old Santa Cruz County man was riding a red 2004 Yamaha motorcycle south on Corralitos Road. The speeds of both vehicles have not been determined.
The pickup driver attempted to turn left onto Merk Road when, for reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided.
The motorcyclist suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he died despite lifesaving efforts, CHP said. The pickup driver was not injured. The motorcyclist’s name was not immediately released.
Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, and the pickup driver was wearing a seat belt.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
