SANTA CRUZ — Anne Hoqui Elissondo, a 40-year resident of the Santa Cruz area, died suddenly due to heart failure on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Dominican Hospital.

Born in 1939 in the Basque city of Ainharp, France, the daughter of Etienne and Marguerite Hoqui, she immigrated to the United States in 1957 to live with her uncle in Danville and to chase her dream of college by attending San Francisco State. She and her family moved to Soquel in 1976. She became an active member of St. Joseph’s Church and also began what would become over 40 years of volunteer service with various organizations.

Ms. Elissondo is survived by her sons, Gregoire (January) Riss and Jerome Riss; one granddaughter; her sister, Elisabeth Challa, nieces, great-nieces and a great-nephew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, 9:30 a.m. following a rosary at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Capitola.  Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz. A reception at 4481 Merlin Way, Soquel will follow. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
