WATSONVILLE — Watsonville Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Friday evening on the 100 block of West Beach Street that left one man dead.

The incident was Watsonville’s first homicide since December 2015.

According to Watsonville Police Det. Rudy Lopez, officers responded to a “shots heard” call on the 100 block of West Beach Street at about 6:30 p.m. 

When the officers arrived, they found a 33-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead after paramedics attempted lifesaving efforts.

Police did not release any other details about the shooting. It is unclear whether the shooting was gang-related.

WPD detectives are conducting an investigation and no further details are being released at this time.
