Local tennis trainer Jon Tarr was recently named the USTA NorCal 2018 ACES Award League Volunteer of the Year.
Also the longtime tennis coach at Pajaro Valley High, Tarr has taught dozens of locals of all ages for numerous years at the Ramsay Park tennis courts in Watsonville.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
• Monterey 45, Pajaro Valley 43 – Madison Hill had 17 points 10 rebounds and three steals, Lauren De Los Santos added 13 points, six rebounds and four steals and the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs cruised to a 63-47 Monterey Bay League Gabilan division win over Salinas High on Tuesday night.
Mackenzie Tellez added 13 points and five steals for M.V.C. (8-7, 1-4), which hosts North Monterey County High tonight at 7 p.m.
• Aptos 72, St. Francis 46 – Hannah Hocom dropped 23 points in Aptos High’s SCCAL victory over St. Francis High on Tuesday night.
Natalia Ackerman added 12 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for Aptos (14-3, 6-0), which hosts Santa Cruz High on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Janessa Yniguez finished with 24 points for St. Francis (8-7, 2-3). The Sharks are back in action on Friday night against Santa Cruz High.
• ND-Salinas 44, Watsonville 29 – Watsonville High suffered its first MBL-Pacific division loss on Tuesday night.
Watsonville (11-5, 3-1) was outscored 22-6 in the fourth quarter.
Savanah Quintana had 11 points and Evelyn Rios added 10.
The Wildcatz will try to rebound tonight at Christopher High at 7 p.m.

• Aptos 2, Scotts Valley 0 – Paige Dueck and Monserrat Hernandez Marquez each converted a penalty kick in the second half to lead Aptos High over Scotts Valley High in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action on Tuesday evening.
Aptos (5-3-2, 3-1) welcomes in St. Francis High tonight at 7 p.m.

N.M.C. (6-3-2, 1-2-1) hosts Alisal High tonight at 5:45 p.m.
