PAJARO — A Watsonville man died in a head-on crash on San Juan Road Friday evening in Monterey County.

California Highway Patrol officer Oscar Loza said the victim, 65-year-old Pedro Senties, was driving a 1990 Toyota Corolla eastbound on San Juan Road, east of Allison Street around 6:30 p.m. when he suddenly veered into oncoming traffic. He slammed head-on into a 2014 Toyota Avalon with a 67-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman on board.

Senties was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. The driver and the passenger in the Avalon suffered minor injuries.

It’s unclear why Senties veered into oncoming traffic, the CHP said.

The collision is still under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to contact the Monterey CHP at 770-8000.
