Derek Zaragoza scored twice, Alex Gonzalez added a third and made an assist and Watsonville High clinched a second-place finish in the Monterey Bay League Gabilan division with a 3-1 win over San Benito High on Thursday evening in Hollister.

Watsonville finished the regular season with a 12-4-4 overall record and a 6-2-4 league standing.

The Wildcatz will advance to the Central Coast Section playoffs. They will find out who and where they play at today’s seeding meeting.

WOMEN’S JC BASKETBALL

• Cabrillo 84, De Anza 46 –  The Cabrillo College Seahawks clinched a share of their first conference title since 1979 with Wednesday night’s Coast Conference South division win.

Lauren Lacy had 10 points and 12 assists, Pauli Pappas added 25 points and 13 rebounds and Grace Giguiere hit five 3-pointers to chip in 15 points. Valerie Jimenez also scored in double figures, adding in 13 points.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

• Aptos 2, Santa Cruz 0 – Gisselle Vasquez and Haley Veldhuis scored, and Caroline Miller posted her 13th shutout of the year in Aptos High’s Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League win on Thursday night.

Olivia Meier made an assist for Aptos, which finished the regular season with a 13-3-2 overall record and an 11-1 league mark.

The Mariners will advance to next week’s CCS playoffs. They will be off until the first round of the Open Division on Feb. 24.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

• Pajaro Valley 63, Christopher 59 – Christian Quintero poured in 25 points, Ryan Magbag added 13 and Pajaro Valley High edged Christopher High in its MBL-Pacific division finale on Wednesday night.

With a 13-11 overall record and 7-5 finish in league action, Pajaro Valley will hope it can qualify for next week’s CCS playoffs with an at-large bid.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

• Aptos 72, St. Francis 38 – Top-seeded Aptos High cruised past No. 5 seed St. Francis High in the semifinals of the SCCAL basketball tournament on Wednesday night.

Abbi Saxton (13), Gabby Giuffre (13), Hannah Hocom (12) and Rylee Mennie (10) all scored in double figures for Aptos (22-3), which will play Soquel High tonight at 5:30 p.m. for the tournament title at Aptos.

HS BASEBALL

• WHS alumni game – The Watsonville High baseball team is holding an alumni game on Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Watsonville head coach Leroy Dozal said there are still spots available for the alumni team.

There is a $30 participation fee, which also includes a dryfit baseball shirt to keep.

• SC Quakes tryouts – The Santa Cruz Quakes, a girls’ AAU basketball team based in Santa Cruz County, is holding tryouts today at Scotts Valley High and on Feb. 25 at Aptos High.

Today’s tryouts start at 1 p.m. for grades fifth-eighth. Tryouts for high school players begin at 2 p.m.

Next week’s tryouts at Aptos begin at 3 p.m. for grades fifth-eighth. Tryouts for high school players begin at 4 p.m.
