Monte Vista Christian freshman Christian Cabuag finished off his stellar wrestling season with a solid showing at the CIF state meet at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield on Friday.

A runner-up at the Central Coast Section meet a week before, Cabuag went 2-2 in the 113 pound division against the top wrestlers in the state.

His teammate Amman Klair, a junior, went 0-2 at 138 pounds a week after battling his way into the state meet with a third-place finish at CCS.

Cabuag, the Monterey Bay League champion, won his first match over Jacob Hiller of Chico High in a 4-2 decision, but lost to College Park High’s Gus Petruske, 10-7, in the second round.

He bounced back in the consolation bracket with a 3-2 victory over Clovis North High’s Taylor Bencomo, but saw his season come to an end against Sutter High’s Jimmy Heryford via a pin.
