Behind seniors Connor Tran and Dennis Yang, Monte Vista Christian won the Monterey Bay League Pacific division championship on Monday at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey.
Tran earned overall medalist honors, beating golfers from both the Pacific and Gabilan divisions, by firing a two-over par 73 through the windy and cloudy conditions. Yang followed with a 79, and the Mustangs finished off their perfect MBL-P season as champions.
Palma High completed its undefeated MBL-G season by beating Salinas High, 396-418.
M.V.C. will play the MBL-G runner-up on Tuesday for a spot in next week’s Central Coast Section regional round.
If the Mustangs lose to Salinas in the playoff, Tran and Yang will return to Laguna Seca for the section’s regional play as individual league qualifiers.
Yang tied for fourth overall with Palma’s Hansi Hell.
It will be Tran’s third straight trip to the CCS regional round.
He has improved in each of this last two appearances. As a sophomore, he finished tied for 81st, and last season he placed tied for 62nd.
