The California Highway Patrol has issued an Amber Alert for a 14-year-old girl connected to the investigation into the death of a newborn found near Watsonville last month.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday that it is searching for Diana Galvez Ortega and her father, 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez. Their disappearance is connected to the investigation into Baby Angelita, the newborn found dead along Struve Road on Aug. 1.
The Pajaronina typically does not name the victims of sex crimes, but has in this case because law enforcement has issued the Amber Alert, and she is considered to be in danger.
Sheriff’s investigators recently discovered surveillance video showing Galvez Perez and Diana together in the Salinas area in a white Nissan Altima with no license plates.
According to the Amber Alert, the two were last seen in Salinas at approximately 2am Aug. 4.
The newly discovered video gave investigators vehicle information they previously did not have and confirmed that Diana and her father were together, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office said that information allowed investigators to request the Amber Alert. Authorities previously could not confirm that Diana and Galvez Perez were traveling together or identify the vehicle they might be using.
Galvez Perez is wanted on numerous felony charges involving Diana, who authorities describe as the victim. The Sheriff’s Office did not provide additional details about the allegations, saying releasing evidence could jeopardize the ongoing investigation.
“Our immediate priority is to locate her and ensure she is safe,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “We want to make sure her well-being is addressed and that she receives any medical care she may need.”
Galvez Perez is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and approximately 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Diana is approximately 4 feet, 10 inches tall and 100 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Authorities are asking anyone who sees Diana, Galvez Perez or a white Nissan Altima without license plates that may be associated with them not to approach them and to call 911 immediately.
The investigation is ongoing.
