WATSONVILLE — Crews from Pacific Gas and Electric have begun work to replace sections of a natural gas pipeline on Walker Street, from Front Street to Ford Street in Watsonville. The work is expected to continue through November.
Work includes excavation around the existing underground pipeline and installation of new pipe. The work should not interrupt gas service. PG&E officials will contact residents and businesses in the area if there are any changes.
As part of the work, there will be a controlled and safe release of a small amount of natural gas to empty the pipeline for replacement.
“You may hear a loud steady noise and notice the smell of gas,” officials said. “This is normal while crews are working, but we encourage anyone with concerns to call us at 1-800-743-5000.”
The work will affect traffic with lane closures at times. Crews will be working Monday through Saturday between the hours of 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
