WATSONVILLE — Alianza Charter School, Amesti Elementary School and Cesar Chavez Middle School have produced an interactive book that will be unveiled during a literature and art show on May 30 from 5-7 p.m. at Plaza Vigil, 23 East Beach St.
Three teachers from Pajaro Valley Unified School District worked on the project. Eighteen written pieces (five theatrical acts and 13 poems) from the eighth grade SLA students at Alianza Charter School and their teacher, Amparo Yodar-Jiménez, were selected to be exhibited in the interactive book. The theatrical acts were written in Spanish and then translated into English. Afterwards, they were illustrated by the first-third grade students from Lucía Herrera’s art class at Amesti Elementary School and the poems by the seventh-eighth grade students from Patricia’s Sotarello art class at César Chávez Middle School.
The teachers put it all together in an interactive book with QR codes that link readers to the voices of the students reciting their poems or reading their theatrical acts, as well as two animated movies from two of the theatrical acts.
The bilingual book will be presented at an expo that will take place at Plaza Vigil on May 30 where PVUSD Superintendent Michelle Rodríguez and filmmaker Gustavo Vázquez will make a short presentation.
Free copies of the book will be distributed to each participant and PVUSD school libraries as well as Watsonville Public Libraries.
